What a great weekend! Plenty of time to just sit back and enjoy the day, good friends, games and food! It doesn’t get much better than that, unless you count the Smores contest and nightly campfires! Of course, if you lucky like T2s Terry Adkins, you won a paid registration to the 2017 Buckeye Rally by being Euchre Champ! Our September Gathering was a little sparse due to several still being on the way back from Wing Ding, but we were happy to welcome new GWRRA member Eric Hisey of Eaton OH. We hope to see more of him at future events. Our T2 Dinner Ride to Culvers was well attended and it was good to see old friends at it as well as the Chapter F Fund Raiser at Waffle House a day later. It looks like October will be busy also. The District Team will meet with the Region D Team in Portland IN on the 1st (John & I are Dist MECs), the October Chapter Gathering is on the 4th, then we leave for vacation the 8th - 16th . We have a dinner ride scheduled for the 13th, but that may be rescheduled. Details at the Gathering. Hope to see you all soon, and make sure you let me know if you would like to nominate anyone for Karen’s Kudos! Till next month, Karen Wissinger Chapter Director Ohio Chapter T2 Robert G & Angela Williams OhioEducator @ohiogwrra.org T2’s Monthly Gatherings are held on the first Tuesday of the month (except September) and start at 7:30pm at the Northridge Church of the Nazarene located at 2215 Maplegrove Ave, Dayton, OH Gold Wing Road Riders Association P.O. Thank you Charlie for leading a great ride up to Culver’s in Troy for supper and thanks to all who attended. It was great seeing everyone after a busy August and most of us sat around for quite a while and visited. A few of us attended Buckeye Time-Out in Plain City, it was very relaxing and I think everyone had fun and the trip to the Der Dutchman was well worth it. We are looking at a busy month ahead. Our Chapter Gathering is October 4th and we are having soup for supper. Everyone is invited to come early and enjoy! Then on Saturday, October 8th, Tom is leading a ride to the American Sign Museum and Thursday, October 13th he is leading a dinner ride. On Wednesday, October 19th, Chapter F is having a fundraiser at the Waffle House across from the Green. This is in support of their “Feed the Seniors” charity held right before Christmas. Let’s all turnout and help them in the worthy cause. Then on Saturday, October 22nd, Chapter F is having a Craft and Bake Sale at the monthly gathering. T2 is planning on attending and after the meeting go on a Fall Color Ride. Tuesday, October 25th is T2 next Team Staff meeting. And finally, on Saturday, October 29th we are having a game night at the Fleming’s. We will have a carry-in and then some games! Oct 29 - T2 Game Night @ Flemings at 7pm That’s about it for now, hope to see you all soon! Ride safe, Linda & Tim Ohio Rides - Join the Journey!! October 2016 www.ohchaptert2.us Chapter T2 Happenings - Heritage Wings Page 3 Rider Education LINDA’S LESSON Fall is here, so this month I will use the acronym FALL, to list some of the items we need to be cautious of while we are riding during the fall. F – Farmers in the fields. This alone can bring out many items to watch out for. First of all there are many types of machinery that the farmers are using. The tractors, wagons, and combines are just three to watch out for. If they are in the fields watch out for dust, mud or dirt, and grain on the roads. This time of year can also deal with foggy mornings. Think of the fog that has started to settle some mornings. Motorcyclists need to be more cautious during foggy mornings. Watch out for other drivers. Also with school back in session, fog delays will change time schedules for parents and students. A – Animals are on the move during the fall and we should watch out for all of them. With the harvest of crops already in progress, that means that deer especially will be on the move. This is also rutting season for the deer. Ask Ron Ely for an explanation of this. There are also other smaller animals to watch out for such as raccoons, opossum, and squirrels or even skunks. No matter what the size of the animal a motorcyclist wants to avoid it. L– Leaves are already starting to fall. As dry as it was in September, it doesn’t take much wind to blow the leaves off the trees. With hurricane season in full swing it is common for this part of Ohio to see rain as a result of the hurricanes. Whether the leaves are wet or dry a motorcyclist needs to be careful. Obviously the wet leaves could make it slippery and more difficult to stop and the dry leaves blowing across the road could easily hide something on the road. Just be careful of the leaves. L - Light(s) or the lack of light could also be a factor that a motorcyclist should be aware of. There are fewer hours of sunlight so depending upon your time schedule you could be driving when it is darker at night. This means you could then be dealing with more lights from vehicles. Again with the farmers harvesting crops some of them may be out early in the morning or late at night, which means they will be using more lights in the fields. Be cautious and alert during daylight or nighttime riding. Linda Copeland Chapter T2 Senior CE (Chapter Educator) October 2016 www.ohchaptert2.us Chapter T2 Happenings - Heritage Wings Membership Page 4 Enhancement Here we are heading into the Fall riding season. Temperatures are a little cooler and some of the leaves are already starting to change because of the lower temperatures. We have to watch out for the leaves that tend to fall on just the line we wanted to ride on those back roads as well as the little ones that go trick or treating later in the month. These are both hazards that we have to be aware of in order to successfully enjoy riding on 2 wheels. I know this sounds like Rider Ed, but it is also Membership Enhancement because we want everyone to enjoy the ride and being aware only enhances our experience. I hope you all are carrying your recruiting materials in your 4 wheel vehicles as well as your 2 wheelers. You never know when you will see someone that may present an opportunity for you to pass out GWRRA literature and recruitment form! Always have some handy and don't forget to fill out the part about Your Name and GWRRA number! It's nice to get credit for recruiting new members, and if you get enough, you may even be Recruiter Of The Year for Ohio! Lastly, remember to check the expiration date on your Membership Card and renew at the appropriate time. You don't have to wait until you are notified by National or your MEC.
