Happy Fathers’ Day
Here’s a prayer sent to me and I liked it!
We give thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.
Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while
others fail.
We ask your blessings on them all – and forgiveness where it is needed.
This Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers have made for their children and
families, and the ways, both big and small, they lift their children to achieve dreams they
thought beyond reach.
So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void where fathers pass early or are
absent – grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches – and the
women of our families.
For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting.
Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
In your Holy Name, O God, we pray….Amen
We are blessed to have so many good men who are mentors and leaders in our parish. Men
(and those women who step in for fathers), please know the awesome responsibility you have in
forming our children. They look up to you more than you’ll ever know. That time you spend going
to their games, their dances, the events in their lives that mean so much to them will never have been
wasted. They will hold on to the memories of goodness, patience and compassion that you have
shown them throughout their lives. Please never give up in the holy work you’ve been given!
St. Charles Mission Statement
St. Charles Borromeo, a diverse urban parish of Detroit, is rooted in Christ’s Gospel and Catholic tradition. We strive to build a community of
faith through education, worship, and evangelization. We are called to carry on Christ’s ministry to our brothers and sisters, especially the
sick and their families, the elderly, youth, and the disabled. With Mary as our example of unconditional love, we strive to welcome everyone
to share joyfully in the peace, love and salvation of Jesus Christ. We acknowledge that it is the Holy Spirit who calls and empowers us, who
strengthens and renews us, and who gives us the will to continue our mission, until Jesus comes again in glory.

CSA Minute: Youth Ministry
Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal are helping high school-age teens in
the Archdiocese of Detroit learn how to become better Christian leaders, examples
to their peers, and evangelizers through Youth Leadership and Evangelization
Training.
“Chosen to Follow” covers topics like discipleship, communication, facilitation,
prayer and event planning, as well as sharing faith with other teens. Through the
“Living Your Strengths” resource, teens will also learn to use their individual
strengths in their daily lives.
Offered by archdiocesan Youth Ministry Office, Youth Leadership and
Evangelization Training will be held overnight at St. Frances de Chantal Parish in
Sterling Heights on June 8-9.
For information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go

Catholic Corner: Who Are You?
“Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved.” Psalm 80:7
The scene: Jesus was alone praying (communing with the Source). Still in the
prayer mode he questions his disciples as to who the crowds say he is (a
resurrected prophet). After pressing his disciples for their understanding as to who
he is (the Messiah), he orders them not to tell this to anyone.
Why? Perhaps because he is not the Messiah/Savior that the people are
expecting: the one who will free then from the political oppression they were
suffering. Instead, this Christ is going to model the voluntary suffering (the taking up
of the cross), that is inherent in the passionate love we are to have for others; the
love that seeks reconciliation and unity for all God’s creatures and creation. The
people need to “see” the model played out and then choose their response.
