Session 2
HARVEST WEEK FOR PRESCHOOLERS!
It has been a road of changes since
two educators and a Masters student
opened the doors of GTCO in 1990.
However, the one constant is the love of
teaching and the thirst for knowledge.
Our staff has always used gymnastics and
cheer to teach our students the process
of learning. Along the way of learning
basic or complex skills, the students gain
the necessary problem solving tools, the
patience and perseverance needed, and
the boundaries of their physical
capabilities. We work to instill in every
student, youngest to oldest, the
confidence to take on new challenges and
the willingness to push the boundaries of
personal comfort zone. Optimism and a
belief in one’s ability, coupled with the
reassurance that failure is a necessary
step to overall success, allow our
students to continue to grow in a positive
environment that we hope transcends the
gym and helps them succeed in any
endeavor they so choose. We thank you
for choosing GTCO for your child. Please
see the front desk if you have any
questions.

TUMBLE TALK
CO-ED TUMBLING
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to work
with your child. We take great pride in our facility
and staff and have enjoyed many years of success in
our tumbling program, thousands of
backhandsprings and flips accomplished. Our
system has worked well for many years and we
would like you to receive the full advantage of our
program. The program is designed with specific
markers for progression. We start out with gaining
the physical strength and coordination to handle
one’s body in an inverted position, i.e. donkey kicks,
handstands, snap downs, cartwheels, round-offs
bridge kick overs, tic-tocs then onward and upward.
We introduce our back handsprings into the foam
pits, resi-pits, barrels and wedge mats. We firmly
believe that for the safety of the individual, it is
imperative to know how to do a standing back
handspring before moving on the round-off back
handspring True the momentum generated from the
round-off makes the back handspring easier, but
much like learning to ride a bike, sometimes that
momentum can have unfortunate consequences
which will set back the learning process. We
continue to work with the students on a more personalized skill
progression once they achieve the round-off backhandspring. Each
student has different goals and desires when it comes to the more
advanced tumbling used in cheer routines or dances. If there is a
specific skill you wish to achieve please feel free to drop a note or
talk to the instructor with your request. Equally important, if not
more so, is the psychological comfort level of the tumbler. We start
with foam pits, barrels, resis and hand spotting to gain the
confidence necessary to allow for a quicker progression over the
long term. Each child is different and works at his/her own comfort
level. The fear of flipping over or injury is quite often the largest
hurdle to overcome. The staff puts extra effort into making the
tumbler feel safe and having fun. We believe fun is a greater
motivator than intimidation. Respect and confidence in the
instructor will allow for a faster progression through the learning
process. GTCO also breaks out some of our classes for Beginners
only, this allows students to feel comfortable in the group without
being intimidated by much more advanced tumblers. Once a
tumbler accomplishes the standing back handspring they will move
out of the beginner group and into another tumbling class. Upon
mastering their round-off back handspring, the student may move to
an hour long advanced class and work on flips and more. This
categorizing of classes also eases the mental anxiety of learning
more difficult and intimidating skills.
GIRLS’ EDUCATIONAL
Like all our programs here at
GTCO we believe in the introduction of
basics and concentration on them to
further the skill level as the gymnast
grows. Whether the student is doing it
for fun or with dreams of competition, the
educational program follows closely the
USAG level system for skills and
progression. In the educational groups
GIRLS’ TUMBLEGARTEN
we work levels 1-4, then move on to optional skills,
if the gymnast is ready. We will be evaluating the
skills near the end of the session and be available
to give feedback to those interested. During those
classes we will evaluate on a standard format drawn
closely to the USAG system and handing out
certificates of accomplishment for each level. This
evaluation is vital so that the student can measure
her progress and the instructor will have a road map
for progress.

In between our pre-school program and our competitive team is our Tumblegarten program. The various
levels allow our students to comfortably progress through the USAG levels towards competitive team, or into
the girls’ educational program. There are so many factors that go into becoming a competitive gymnast that
this program is designed to work with each individual’s goals and capabilities. Level 1 and 2 provide a great
introduction and base of gymnastics skills regardless of which avenue your child chooses to go with their
gymnastics. Many of our students are not ready for the team commitment designed into level 3, so the
transition to our educational program is easy and fun. The girls will work all 4 women’s Olympic gymnastics
events in level 1. Level 2 will spend some extra time on flexibility and strength, as well as the 4 events.
With a variety of classes you can readily find a time to accommodate your schedule and skill level. New
classes will be formed as demand continues to increase so stop by the front desk for the latest in scheduling
availability should you need to switch times, or you are looking for a class with that special instructor.
