12 April 2013 - Cayman International School
April 12, 2013 CIS Mission Statement: Cayman International School endeavors to provide each of our students the opportunity to achieve his/her academic and personal best within a U.S./ International educational environment that encourages and inspires leadership, character, and community service while embracing cultural diversity. PARENT PARENT--TEACHER CONFE CONFERENCES RENCES Parent -Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the afternoons of April 24th and 25th, 2013 for all students. Parents of Early Childhood students will have an opportunity to meet and discuss their child’s progress with their teachers. The Elementary students will be participating in Student-Led Conferences again this year. With the introduction of student portfolios, goal setting and reflection, the StudentLed Conference at this time of year is a natural process as our students begin to assume more responsibility of their learning. Students have been working hard on creating their portfolios and are looking forward to sharing their work with their parents— be sure and save the dates. Sign up sheets for Early Childhood and Elementary Conferences will be available Thursday, April 18th and Friday, April 19th next week outside the Administration building. Secondary Parent Teacher Conferences will be held arena style with the teachers sitting at tables around the perimeter of the ARC. Parents can simply move from one teacher to another, as time allows. No sign ups are necessary. MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR On Thursday, the annual Middle School Science Fair took place in the ARC. CIS community members and students circulated around the projects learning all kinds of scientific findings from what is the fastest sense to how temperature affects magnetism. If you missed it, don’t fret! The Rotary Science Fair will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00AM -4:00 PM in the ARC and will have entries from many schools, including CIS. I hope that this format will make it easy to put the timetables and dates in a place of reference. You will notice that for the most part the timetable is exactly the same, though there will be some optional additional Saturday classes for our exam students who wish to participate in preparation for their tests. I have also included the dates we have had confirmed for the Batabano Junior Parade, which will be performed by our Dance Team students specifically, as well as our Showcase dates – which will focus on our musical theatre students this year. As our dance team and ballet students will be preparing to take their exams at the same time, I felt it would be great for us to have a more intimate platform for parents to see their children’s progress, and so we are proud to present our “Open House” week at the end of the session. Parents are invited to come and watch their children in class where students will demonstrate and discuss their work. As always, I thank you for your support for the program, and look forward to a wonderful final session for this academic year.
