WEEK 1–June 16–20: Sock Creatures (AM)–Loom Weaving (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will use colorful socks, buttons and hand sewing techniques to design & create a crazy lovable sock creature or sock monkey. PM/ Fiber Artists will discover the basics of weaving to create a beautiful six-color rainbow scarf. Weavers will each work with the Harrisville rigid heddle loom & learn to dress their loom, weaving terminology, plain weave, changing weft colors and finishing with fringe. Scarves will be hand washed to soften fibers. WEEK 2–June 23–27: Jewelry, Macramé & Rainbow Loom (AM)–Machine Sewing (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will learn the basics of jewelry design by experimenting with a variety of materials including glass beads, wire, hemp & jewelry findings. Designers will learn basic beading, macramé and a variety of finishing techniques to create bracelets, necklaces & earrings. In addition designers will explore advanced techniques using the Rainbow Loom. PM/ Fiber Artists will develop beginning machine sewing skills. Each will learn to use their own sewing machine, read a pattern, cut out pattern pieces, pin & sew pieces together. Two projects will be completed; quilted pillow & pajama bottoms. Student must bring their own machine. Max 4 students. (Ages 9+ best suited) WEEK 3*–June 30–July 2nd Learn to Knit (AM)–Rainbow Loom (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will learn to knit a scarf with size 10.5 needles and their choice of yarn. Knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind-off, weave in ends and finish their scarf with fringe. Advanced knitters can learn to knit in the round and make a hat. PM/ Fiber Artists will explore advanced jewelry making techniques using the Rainbow Loom and a variety of loom bands. WEEK 4–July 7–11: Learn to Crochet (AM)–Loom Knitting (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will learn the basics of crochet to create a trivet, small rug, hat or scarf. Crocheters will learn the chain stitch, single & double crochet, increasing & finishing. PM/ Fiber Artists will learn to knit a hat, scarf or legwarmers with the use of flat or circular knitting looms and their choice of yarn. Loom knitters will embellish their hat with a pom-pom or scarf with fringe. Creative Camp '14 TEACH LOVE THROUGH "CREATIVE-CAMPS!" WEEK 5–July 14-18: Arm & Needle Knitting (AM)–Yarn Dying & Spinning (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will learn to knit a scarf with size 10.5 needles and their choice of yarn. Knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind-off, weave in ends and finish their scarf with fringe. Advanced knitters can learn to knit in the round and make a hat. Artists will also learn the art of Arm Knitting. PM/ Fiber Artists will explore the basics of dying wool & cotton yarn with color safe dyes. In addition each will make a drop spindle from household materials and learn basic hand spinning techniques. Afterwards spinners will experiment with spinning yarn on a traditional spinning wheel. WEEK 6–July 21-25: DYO Ugly Doll (AM)–Machine Sewing (PM) AM/ Fiber Artist will design their own Ugly Doll by drawing a pattern of their own creation. Patterns are transferred to fleece fabric and cut-out, features are sewn by hand to the fleece bodies. Bodies are sewn together then stuffed. Campers will design their own Ugly Doll hang tag & story. PM/ Refer to Week 2 for description. WEEK 7–July 28–August 1: Sewing, Embroidery & Quilting (AM)–Learn to Crochet (PM) AM/ Fiber Artists will explore the basics of sewing by hand, embroidery and quilting. Sewers will create a stuffed bear, an embroidered pillow and small quilted, 9-square blanket. PM/ Refer to Week 4 for description. WEEK 8–August 11-15: Loom Weaving (AM)–Wet & Dry Felting (PM) AM/ Refer to Week 1 for description. PM/ Fiber Artists will explore the art of felting with 100% wool roving. Felters will create 3 dimensional animals, bracelets, bookmarks, flowers, felt beads and fabric using both the wet and dry (needle) felting techniques. WEEK 9–August 18–22: Arm & Needle Knitting (AM)–Recycled Clothing (PM) AM/ Refer to Week 5 for description. PM/ Fiber Artists will use recycled wool sweaters, jeans and sewing techniques to create wearable art. Slippers, hand warmers, book-bags, flower pins and more will be designed & fabricated by each. WEEK 10–August 25–29: Sock Creatures (AM)–Jewelry, Macramé & Rainbow Loom (PM) AM/ Refer to Week 1 for description. PM/ Refer to Week 2 for description.
