Parra Pulse 9 RIVERSIDE THEATRES ADDRESS: CORNER CHURCH AND MARKET STREETS, PARRAMATTA PHONE: 8839 3399 Riverside Theatres PARRAMATTA GIRLS THE FACTORY FOOD Eight former inmates return to the notorious Parramatta Girls Detention Centre for a reunion 40 years later. For some it’s a way to find healing, for others it’s a way to dispel the ghosts, for all of them it is a way to share the pain. Q&A sessions with the cast and the real Parra girls will be available following some performances along with tours of the actual centre. Described as New Zealand’s firstever Pacific musical, The Factory is an entertaining and entirely unique exploration of the Samoan migrant experience. Hilarious and heartfelt, this vibrant funk-fuelled musical weaves a romantic narrative and wry lyrics into a tribute to the courage of the Pacific people who came to Auckland during the 1970s, searching for ways to support the families they left behind and striving to make new lives for themselves. This is an absolutely brilliant production of immersion theatre about family, love and food. Not only are you likely to get the opportunity to share in a tidbit or two with the actors as they cook in their on-stage kitchen, but Food delivers one of the most imaginative love scenes seen on stage in a long time.
