Introduction
The versatile Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is for singers everywhere to be able to have an easily
controlled and reasonably priced teleprompter for lyric display. It can also be used in many
other applications. The target users include: singer-songwriters, bands, ministers, politicians,
and just about anybody that delivers prepared text to an audience. It is equally effective on a
stage, a church pulpit, or a studio. The TELEMONITOR is indeed an economical and a very
easy to operate alternative to a traditional teleprompter system, and much more professional
than a music stand on stage. The prepared text or lyrics is displayed on a 22 inch diagonal flat
screen monitor positioned for a portrait presentation to the user in our wedge models. We also
have 19, and 22 inch stand models. The screen can be easily referred to while standing behind
a microphone, a podium or sitting in a chair to make sure the prepared text or song is delivered
just as it is desired. In addition the wedge does not look like a music stand; it looks just like a
black audio monitor. The Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is virtually stealth sitting up there on
stage.
The TELEMONITOR Wedge is constructed with plywood and solid wood materials to stand up
to the harsh world of performing. Although it is not recommended to throw the TELEMONITOR
around like some speaker cabinets can be treated. After all there is some computer equipment
located in the cabinet. The TELEMONITOR is powered by an Intel ATOM processor based
small form factor personal computer, a 22 inch diagonal flat screen monitor, a wireless USB
keyboard with an integral two key mouse and a USB four switch foot pedal. OpenOffice
“Impress” is the application used for text display. Everything is outfitted in a floor monitor
cabinet that has cross flow ventilation to assist with component cooling. Operating Temperature
Range 50 to 100 degrees F. The PC is accessed and operated through the included onboard
keyboard and the included four switch foot pedal.
The TELEMONITOR is easy to set up and start using almost immediately, the most challenging
task is formatting your text in OpenOffice “Impress” to meet your personal font and screen
layout needs. After you get your text loaded in the included OpenOffice “Impress” software and
put the software into full screen Slide Show monitoring mode with the keyboard, the show can
go on. The footswitch is then used to index “Impress” through your text or lyrics slides, until the
gig is finished.

Again, the Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® came into existence when a small time singersongwriter needed lyric assistance even with the songs he wrote. He did not want to use a
music stand, but needed the help. Over the years with more songs and more years, the singersongwriter decided to automate the music stand into something that appeared as an audio
monitor to the audience and show large enough print to easily read. The result is this fifth
generation TELEMONITOR and in addition to being a power assisted aid for said singersongwriter there are other similar applications that could be assisted similarly. That is why the
Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is now available worldwide to those with the same need.

Set-up
The Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is shipped via UPS Ground or FEDEX Ground/Home. When
you receive it and unpack it, you will find that the TELEMONITOR will be up in running in
minutes.
1. Carefully remove the device from the packaging box.
2. First remove the Monitor Protector lid. It is attached on the left by two lift off hinges and
on the right by a butterfly latch. Turn the butterfly latch, open the door until you can
remove it from the lift of hinges without the hinges binding (approximately 120 degrees
open). You will notice the Plexiglas shield under the lid.
3. Carefully remove the Plexiglas protective plastic cover from both sides of the Plexiglas (if
present) and put the Plexiglas shield back into the retention grooves.
4. The cabinet is then easily opened – unlatch the two monitor latches, and pull top of the
cabinet away from the bottom of cabinet to open. The monitor will swing out at the top of
the cabinet as it is attached at the bottom with a continuous (piano) hinge. A prop rod is
attached to the monitor frame and the cabinet; swing the monitor to the position where
the prop rod is completely deployed – the top of the cabinet will be opened to about 85
degrees.
5. Remove the “Bubble” and other packing from inside the monitor cabinet.
6. Remove the protective film that may be covering various parts on the PC.
7. Locate the power cable inside the cabinet (it will either be connected to the battery
backup unit that is mounted to the back wall in the bottom part of the cabinet or an
extension that has a connector on the outside of the cabinet. If it has the latter an
appropriate extension cable can be found in the cabinet upon shipping) and pass it
through the right side port opening. If longer cords are necessary use a properly
grounded and rated extension cord to attach to the Battery Backup power cord.
8. Plug the included power cable into the wall outlet or to a properly rated extension cord
that is plugged into a wall outlet.
9. Remove the USB Keyboard (wireless) from the monitor cabinet. The wireless keyboard
receiver will already be tested and still inserted into a USB port on the PC. The batteries
will be in the doco bag or the keyboard box upon shipping and will have to be installed

into the Keyboard when received. The wireless keyboard typically has an off/on switch
on the bottom, when using it, be sure to turn it on (When not in use be sure to shut it off
to save battery life).
10. Stowed inside the cabinet is the four switch USB foot pedal. Extend the cable attached
to the foot pedal and attach it to one of the two USB ports on the panel on the right side
of the cabinet. Everything is now attached and ready to go.
11. The top of the cabinet assembly has two cabinet latches, one on each side of the screen
to hold the top of the cabinet in position when in use and during normal movement. Be
careful to keep the cabinet oriented so the monitor assembly does not open on its own
by the force of gravity. It is strongly suggested to keep the unit in an orientation with the
bottom facing down toward the ground at all times after removing it from the shipping
package. This will make sure the top of the cabinet assembly does not open
inappropriately, as well as it will limit the stresses put on the equipment located in the
cabinet. Remember this is a PC based system.
12. On the back inside of the cabinet is a battery back-up unit with a power cord attached.
The PC and the monitor are plugged into this battery back-up. The PC power is
connected to the backed-up power receptacles and the monitor will not. There is a
power switch on the front top of the battery back-up unit. This has to be depressed to
turn the power on for the PC. As stated above the monitor is not connected to the
battery side of the back-up unit, it is only attached to conditioned power. This is done to
optimize the effectiveness of the battery. It is expected that if a power interruption
occurs it will be corrected expeditiously and the protection is only necessary for the PC
for the duration of the outage. This will provide protection for the PC and if there is a
brief outage you will not have to open the TELEMONITOR to reboot the PC and reset
everything up. To read more about the Battery Back-Up Equipment, see that section in
the component descriptions later in this document.
13. In some installations the PC does not turn on automatically (in others as soon as the
Battery Back-up is started the PC will start). On the front or top of the PC there is a
button; this is the on/off switch for the PC. Push this button and the PC should start
booting up. You should see a light on the front of the PC turn on and you will see the
operating system go through its start up script on the monitor. If the monitor does not
show the boot script, it could be powered off, try powering the monitor. See the

switch. Leaving the factory the monitor will be set to be powered on automatically when
plugged in.
14. The unit operates just as a normal PC does except the monitor is turned 90 degrees
from the normal monitor configuration. This is done using PC desktop commands and
can be changed to landscape orientation if you ever need to use the system in that way,
15. On the PC’s desktop you will see a Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® Initialization folder when
you received the unit. In that folder there are several sub-folders. One is called Manual
and it has a .pdf version of this manual. Another is called Software and it has the .exe
and related files for installing OpenOffice, the drivers for the foot pedal and Avast
Security software. OpenOffice and the footswitch drivers will already be installed (they
are provided if you ever have to reinstall the software or drivers). Avast will not be
installed, but is there if you desire to install it. The other sub-folder is named Template
and has several examples of files that can be used with the TELEMONITOR. There are
a few files that have 6 or more songs (one song per page) in white lettering on a black
background and the other has black lettering on a white background (and other
examples). You should use these in creating your own files. To open the OpenOffice
“Impress” file that is a six song example file you double click it. Put OpenOffice
“Impress” in full screen Slide Show mode and you will see how the unit operates
properly.
You are now ready to rock.
16. After the Impress file opens, in the tool bar at the top of the Impress screen is a tab,
Slide Show, which is used to activate the full screen mode. This is done using the
keyboard/touchpad mouse.
17. The keyboard/touchpad can now be re-stowed in the TELEMONITOR cabinet and all
operation will be managed through the foot pedal until the gig/event is completed. Leave
the keyboard receiver attached to the PC so it is not misplaced, and re-stow wireless
keyboard inside the cabinet (be sure to shut it off to conserve battery life). Alternatively,
you can use the wireless keyboard to control the show using the Home, Page Down,
Page Up and End keyboard keys.

18. The four switch foot pedal has very simple operation. The left switch is configured to
return to the top of the Slide Show (Home). The second from the left switch is used to
forward one page at a time through the Slide Show (Page Down), the third from the left
switch is used to go back to the prior page (Page Up) and the fourth switch is configured
to go to the bottom of the slide show (End). Simply stated they are “top”, “forward”,
“reverse”, and “bottom” respectively from the left side of the switch to the right. You can
reprogram them if you desire. Instructions are in the Deltek manual provided in the
Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® Initialization file on the desktop of the PC.
This is really all you need and you are ready to go. You will see the basic function in action
when you scroll forward and backward through the song demo Impress file provided on the PC’s
desktop while using the foot pedal. This sample OpenOffice “Impress” file should also be used
as a template to load your own lyrics/text. “Impress” is of course loaded on the included PC,
and you can do all the functions required on that PC, or you can download OpenOffice
“Impress” onto another PC and prepare your files on another PC. You can down load
OpenOffice “Impress” from this location http://www.openoffice.org/ for Free.
19. When the gig, performance or event is over, retrieve the wireless keyboard and close
the “Impress” file and shut down the PC using PC functions. The universal insignia for
the “Power Button”. It is not advised to just unplug the power from the unit, it will be
better for the PC if it is correctly turned off.
20. Disconnect all the USB devices and power cables and return them back to their stowage
locations. Also be sure to turn the Battery Back-up off (it will beep every 30 seconds if
you don’t). The Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is now ready to be moved to the next gig.

Lyric/Script Preparation
The easiest and supported method to display lyrics, script or sheet music is through an
OpenOffice “Impress” Slide Show. “Impress” is an easy to use and widely understood
application and it is included on the PC. There may be other methods or softwares (Microsoft
PowerPoint for example) that could be used to operate this system, but they will not be
discussed in this document.
Let us explain how to prepare an OpenOffice “Impress” Slide Show for your gig or speech. On
each slide in the Slide Show you will prepare a text box, with the song title and the lyrics/text
(you will see this in the sample “Impress” demo template files). In the text box you will key in
the appropriate text that you want to display. You can also cut and paste from other sources,
like MS Word or OpenOffice “Writer”. It is recommended for the title to be bolded and of a
larger text than the body of the text, but of course this is completely up to you. One slide
represents one page on the screen, and to go slide to slide, backward or forward you can use
the foot pedals or the keyboard page up/page down keys. Putting one song on a page is the
easiest way to operate the device. The method to load song lyrics is presented below.
1. Open OpenOffice “Impress” (Presentation Software)
2. Put “Impress” into the “Portrait” slide orientation – Format  Page  Orientation 
check Portrait for Small Form Factor equipped devices. It is recommended that you start
with one of the provided templates and they will already be in the proper mode for your
TELEMONITOR as equipped and add your songs or text to it, and delete the lyrics you
originally received. Enter your text and it is suggested to save it to a file and place of
your liking.
3. You can also select the slide format from the format chart (usually displayed on the right
of the screen) that has a large text box, or you can use the title/text two box method and
that is typically the top one in the right column. This is to start a file from scratch. We
suggest using one of the templates as your starting point rather than from scratch, all
this has been done for you.
4. As suggested, copy the lyrics from a word processing software package (OpenOffice
Writer or Microsoft Word), using a copy/paste process into the text box, and writing over
one of the provided ones. You will find it easier to construct it in Writer or Word. There
may be some format and font changes you will have to make to the file to fit it to your
tastes. When you have to add another slide, it is suggested that you create a duplicate
slide (from the Insert menu), and cut and paste your text over the duplicate slide text,
some of the page formatting will be retained and this will make it a bit easier to do lots of
song additions.
5. If your text goes beyond the page, resize the font to fit the page. You may have to
extend the song lyric to a second page if the font size becomes too small to be read. It
may have to be done for longer songs, just realize you will have to use the foot pedals
during the performance of the song to go to the next page. It is recommended that you
rehearse this action for best results. Most songs can be sized to fit a single screen and
are still readable.

6. On each page of the Slide Show it is recommended to put the title of the song and it is
suggested to make the text larger than the body of the song and put it in bold font. This
is seen in the example demo file on the PC’s desktop.
7. You can put in chord changes as well if desired.
8. Save the file with a name that you desire in a file structure/location that you desire.
9. It is recommended to create the lyric sheets on another laptop or desk top computer and
move the file to the Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® using a thumb drive. Just drag it from
the thumb drive file structure onto the desktop when needed. The thumb drive can be
connected to the USB port on the side of the cabinet.
10. It is suggested to load all the songs you could potentially be performing into one big
presentation file. To construct the set lists, drag the slides in the OpenOffice “Impress”
slide sorter around until they are in the desired order. All the songs that will not be
performed on that night could be collected at the end of the Slide Show, for example.
This allows for less rekeying if the set list for the next gig is different. All you have to do
is rearrange the songs in the Slide Show to meet the new song order. And of course
resave the file.
11. This same method could be used to key in the text of a speech, a sermon, or any other
prepared text to be presented.
12. A second method is to scan documents into picture (.jpg) or other files and then place
those files into an OpenOffice “Impress” Slide Show in the order and orientation that you
desire. You can expand them to fit the space on the page which will allow for making
the text on the scanned page appear larger. This method could be used for scanned
sheet music (please adhere to copyright laws), scanned bible passages or other
prepared texts that can be scanned.
13. On the initial desktop when you boot up the PC you will see the initialization folder with
all the templates and examples contained in it. These are examples of “Impress” file
with keyed in lead sheets and the other one has an example of a scanned book text,
bible passage and a scanned sheet music page, to show you how scanning existing
documents can be accommodated.

TELEMONITOR EXTension Set-up
The TELEMONITOR EXTension, Lite and Base are the same thing just different names. It is
designed to connect to a Standard TELEMONITOR and to display exactly what is displayed on
the Standard TELEMONITOR at a different location on stage. This is accomplished by taking
the Video signal from the PC in the Standard TELEMONITOR using the three (3) foot M/M VGA
cable supplied when you purchased the TELEMONITOR EXTension. Remove the current VGA
cable from the back of the PC, connect the supplied VGA cable to the back of the PC. The
other end is connected to the input on the supplied VGA amplifier. Then take the VGA cable
originally connected to the PC and connect it to one of the outputs on the VGA amplifier.
To one of the other VGA amplifier outputs connect the cable to the TELEMONITOR EXTension.
This cable is either supplied when you purchased the TELEMONITOR EXTension if you choose
that option, or supplied by you. Typically a VGA M/M extension cable is used for this purpose.
The TELEMONITOR EXTension will have a cable attached to the monitor and the other end will
have a VGA Gender Changer that allows for the extension cable to be securely connected with
thumb screws. Connect the extension to this cable, plug the TELEMONITOR EXTension into
power and you will be in business.
If there is a problem on the TELEMONITOR EXTension not turning on, be sure that the power
strip in the TELEMONITOR EXTension is in the on position and it is connected to house current.
You may have to go into the screen settings to set the resolution to meet your needs, but when
you receive them they should be configured correctly.

Stand Instructions
You recently purchased and have now received your brand new Wolfgang TELEMONITOR®
Stand. It is packaged with foam packing on the top and bottom of the box. The components
are wrapped together within the foam packing. The separate components you have received
are the Monitor/PC/Mounting Bracket Assembly (the VGA Cable is attached to the PC and
Monitor, and the wireless keyboard receiver is attached to the PC, and the PC Power Pack is
attached to the bracket), the Stand has the Power Cables for the Monitor and PC, and the USB
Extension Cable pre-assembled. The wires are held to the stand with tie-wraps and is set up for
full extension of the stand. IF you do not need to extend the stand fully you can use the
included tie-wraps to more neatly affix the wires. You also have a wireless keyboard, a 4pedal footswitch, and documentation. The picture (Figure 1) below shows all the items that you
will receive in the package.

Carefully open your package and identify all the pieces. After you have all the items laid out you
can start assembling it for use.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
First take the stand and spread the legs as far as possible, this will give it the greatest amount
of stability. You may have to open the hand clamp to be able to spread the legs and/or move the
extension up or down (Figure 2 – Stand Close up).

After the stand is set take the Monitor/PC/Mounting Bracket Assembly and slide the tube into
the top of stand (Figure 3 – Monitor/PC/Mounting Bracket Assembly and Figure 4 – Monitor
Assembled to Stand). Again you may have to open the hand clamp to install the tube. After it is
installed be sure to secure it with the hand clamp.

Now that you have the Monitor/PC/Mounting Bracket assembled to the stand, connect the
power pack cord to the PC, the Power Cord to the Monitor and the USB extension cable to one
of the USB ports on the back side of the PC (near where the wireless keyboard receiver is
located). All the cables and cords are set so the rack extension pole can be extended to it
maximum safe height.
On the bottom side of the PC power pack is a coil of wires as well. Uncoil this bundle and you
can plug the power cords into a power strip or into house current in some way. You will also
see the USB extension plug and this is where you plug the footswitch USB connector.
Take out the wireless keyboard and install the batteries. There is also an off/on switch on the
back of the keyboard. (As a reminder, you can extend the life of the batteries by turning the
keyboard off when you are not using it).
You have everything ready to power up the system. Power up the system and you can also
load your file using one of the USB ports on the front of the PC at this time (there are two USB
ports behind a door on the front of the PC that can be used for any USB connections).

Flat Screen Monitor – there are control buttons located on the lower left side (when looking at
the screen from the viewing position). The Power Button and other Monitor Control Buttons can
be accessed by removing the Plexiglas Shield. The power switch has the highest potential that
you will need to access it, and the push rod is included in the documentation plastic bag. Use
the push rod to be able to push the on/off switch. If you power up the Wolfgang
TELEMONITOR® and turn on the PC and the screen does not display the boot progress, check
to see that the monitor is turned on. If the Power Button is pushed and it does not turn the
monitor on, check the power connection at the monitor end – it is likely one of these situations is
causing the problem. Another possible cause for the monitor not to operate properly is the VGA
cable may not be attached properly to the PC. Verify that the blue VGA connector is properly
seated into its PC connection. See the included ACER Monitor documentation for additional
information.
Power – if the unit does not power up or if individual components do not power up properly,
check all the power connections. The power connections are typical computer component 110V
cables. They occasionally back out from the devices and need to be reseated.
PC Power – the PC has an external power supply that is mounted to the floor of the
TELEMONITOR enclosure. It is plugged in to the Battery Backup unit and the DC plug is
connected to the back of the PC. Some PCs do not start up automatically. Some PCs must be
powered up by pushing the button on the front of the PC. Others have had the bios changed
and will power up automatically. If the TELEMONITOR does not power up correctly try pushing
the PC and Battery Backup Power buttons to see if the problem is rectified.
PC (Personal Computer) – the PC has 4 USB connections located around the different sides of
the PC (typically 2 on the front and 2 on the back). It may have a microphone and speaker
connection, network connection, and VGA connections. Some have an HDMI connection and an
eSATA port. There is no CD/DVD Drive, there is an internal hard drive. The only ports that are
used are a few of the USB ports, the VGA port and the power port. You can attach an external
CD/DVD drive if desired (not included). The PC is held to the bottom of the cabinet by Velcro
strips, screwed directly to the bottom of the cabinet, depending on the type of PC installed.
Four switch Foot Pedal – the four switch foot pedal is stored inside the TELEMONITOR
cabinet or another location of your choosing for transport. The foot pedal is initially set up with
the functions Left Switch – Return to first slide of Slide Show, Second from Left Switch –
Forward to next slide, the Third from Left Switch – Reverse to prior slide, and the Fourth from
Left Switch (right switch) is go to last slide of Slide Show (or simply said Home, Page Down and
Page Up, and Bottom). See the included Foot Pedal documentation in the Initialization Folder
on the desktop if some other configuration is desired.
Keyboard – The keyboard is located in a plastic bag or box inside the cabinet. The keyboard is
used for keying in the lyrics/text, accessing OpenOffice “Impress”, and putting “Impress” into the
full screen mode, and other PC type commands you desire. It can also be used during gigs to

control the flow of the slides. It is a wireless USB keyboard is attached via a receiver to one of
the USB ports on the PC. The receiver and keyboard will be tested in the factory. The batteries
for the keyboard will be in one of the plastic bags you received upon delivery and will have to be
installed into the wireless keyboard to operate it. Be sure to turn the keyboard on/off switch to
on when using it and to off when not using it. See the included Keyboard documentation for
additional information.
Battery Back Up – the 2011 Model Standard Wedge TELEMONITORS (and later) are
equipped with a battery back-up. This allows you to fire up the TELEMONITOR off stage while
plugged into power. Then it can be disconnected from power, moved to the stage and
reconnected to power. This obviates very quick changes that can occur at festivals and similar
type events. It also allows you to inconspicuously move the TELEMONITOR on stage without
your adoring public knowing you are using such assistance. The battery backup can easily
support the PC for over 15 minutes being unplugged. The monitor screen is not powered by the
battery backup, it is only necessary to keep the power supplied to the PC, not both the PC and
Monitor, maximizing the duration of the battery life. When the Battery Back Up is operating
correctly the power button will be illuminated when active. When attached to 110 V power
properly the PC and Monitor will be operating as expected and the light will be illuminated. If
the Battery Back Up is disconnected from 110 V power, the Battery Back Up will beep every 30
seconds. This is to remind you that you have up to 15 minutes to reattach it to power or the PC
will have to be rebooted. When you are done with your gig and have powered the PC down,
turn the battery backup off. This will make sure that the Battery Back Up doesn’t lose its
charge. It is recommended that you charge the battery backup occasionally. To charge the
unit before a gig, plug the TELEMONITOR Power Plug into house current for up to 8 hours to
recharge.
Transport – the Wolfgang TELEMONITOR® is self contained and easily transported, but use
caution when moving this from location to location. There are some expensive components that
should not experience being dropped. The screen has a protective and removable/replaceable
Plexiglas shield for safety during transport and operation. Make sure that the locks are in their
locked position. The foot pedal and keyboard can be stored inside the cabinet.
Monitor Assembly Opening – the monitor assembly is hinged at the bottom front of the unit
and opens using the handle on the top of the monitor assembly frame. A prop rod is connected
to the monitor frame and the cabinet to not allow the monitor assembly to open too far. There
are two latches on the right and left hand side. These will hold the monitor assembly closed
under normal operating conditions. Show care in keeping the cabinet enclosure oriented so the
monitor does not fly open on its own. Also at be sure not to open the cabinet too far, it can
become imbalanced and topple over.
