GOLD CUP 101:
A GUIDE TO THE REGION’S MOST IMPORTANT FROM THE COACH:
“The Gold Cup is a very important
INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
tournament for us, both in terms of winning
the confederation championship and
qualifying for the 2013 FIFA Confederations
Cup. The tournament gets more and more
competitive each time around, which shows
the progress teams are making in this region.
We expect it will be a fantastic tournament.”
– BOB BRADLEY
Held every two years, the CONCACAF Gold Cup is the confederation championship for CONCACAF
(Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). There are 40 member
nations of CONCACAF that begin the competition, with 12 teams reaching the final stage.

The 2011 Gold Cup champion has a big advantage in preparing
for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, presuming they qualify. Here’s how:
2011 GOLD CUP
Winning this tournament
automatically qualifies
the champion for the
2013 FIFA Confederations
Cup in Brazil.
2013 CONFEDERATIONS CUP 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP
Held the year before the World Cup,
the tournament combines top-level
competition with the chance to get
familiar with travel, food, climate
and stadiums.
Armed with the confidence of winning the
Gold Cup and the experience of playing
competitive matches in the environment
of the host country, a team has given itself
a great chance to be successful.
