1st of December a ‘Day to Remember’!!
After 18 years of service with Swindon
Town Football Club dealing with a
myriad of musco-skeletal injuries and
general illness and attending over
1,400 games of professional football
I now have the opportunity to return
to the fold of Wiltshire County FA
under whose governance I played
many years of football having great
enjoyment and making many friends
within the game. I am a HPC registered
physiotherapist and a member of
the society of sports therapists and
attend lectures and seminars to keep
abreast of modern thinking in sports
medicine. I hope I can bring some of
the expertise and experience of elite
football to the position.
On 1 December 2011 the new £1 million pound Phase 2 project at Stanley
Park was officially opened by Chippenham Town Council Mayor, David
Powell and world renowned Football Freestyler, Billy Wingrove.
60 children were treated to an hour session with Billy and spectators
& guests witnessed a fantastic demonstration. The children left with an
autograph from Billy, t-shirt, hat or even a football and a buzz of excitement
from the session; there were lots of big smiles!!
The evening then progressed
into the new extension where
guests could view the fantastic
additions to the building. Mayor
David Powell then formally
thanked all funders, contractors,
officers and all those involved
in Phase 2 of the project. It was
a fantastic evening but it didn’t
end there, shortly after 10.00pm
the Town Council received news

Stanley Park Sports Ground had
won the Institute of Groundsmanship’s Best National Public Sector Outdoor
Facility Award. 1st of December a ‘Day to Remember’ indeed!!!
Wiltshire County FA have supported the Stanley Park scheme from its
inception and were a key partner in the planning and delivery of phase 2
which has now provided a full – sized floodlit artificial grass pitch and an
additional 6 changing rooms and education room in addition to the existing
multiple grass pitches and changing facility.
‘Physio’s Corner’...Introducing Dick Mackey
It was with great pleasure that I accepted an invitation from
Mike Benson the County FA’s Hon. Secretary to accept
the role of consulting physiotherapist to Wiltshire County
FA (WCFA). The role includes providing medical cover for
County Representative teams and other footballing events
throughout the County, and offering advice and treatment
to injured players where appropriate.
I anticipate the opportunity of sharing
some of my experience within the
game both from a football perspective
and a professional medical opinion.
Over the coming weeks and months I shall be producing some brief articles
in conjunction with the WCFA team to provide some tips and support to
our family of football volunteers in grassroots football in relation to the
treatment and management of injuries. There will be regular features
posted to the County FA’s web-site at www.wiltshirefa.com and in other
County FA publications. The first of these features will appear soon and
before Christmas.
