Since our beginning in 1988 as a record wholesaler operating out of a tiny apartment in Machida,
Tokyo, we ve always asked ourselves one simple question. Why? To find the answer we continually
think outside the box as we look at the trends and needs of people from the viewpoints of both
the creator and consumer in a quest to deliver artist-driven entertainment.
In recent years we ve found that people are enjoying music in ever more diverse ways. Music package
sales, which had always been our main business, are shrinking along with the industry as a whole.
The Live Business on the other hand is booming due to the public s growing appetite for live music.
Our online video distribution services, such as dTV and UULA, are also thriving and have become
one of the Avex Group s most steady sources of revenue.
It was against this backdrop that, in May 2015, we announced the Avex Group s Mid-Term Strategy 2018.
Over the nex t three years we will follow three courses of action outlined in the plan that are
designed to leverage our strengths and keep us ahead of the market curve.

Avex Group is Japan s leading enter tainment company. The company was founded by the
Representative Director and CEO, Masato Matsuura, in 1988. Avex started the dance music
trend in Japan. Avex Group is comprised of three main business categories: Music business, Video business,
and Management & Live business. In 2014, Avex posted consolidated annual sales of 169.2
billion yen, marking record sales for four years running. Share in the Japanese recorded music
market is among the highest, and its total paid subscriber base for the video distribution
