Now the rumors of the C8 are taking flight on Facebook and
every other social media outlet. A couple of those rumors are
the C8 ZR1 Mid-engine “Zerv” Zora Duntov inspired with a 32
valve V8 by 2019.
Once again, the “CCC”…Continuously Changing Corvette
takes center stage in the car wars of the world. I can’t wait to
see the real thing.

“CCC” Continuous Changing Corvette
By the time the next edition of Tiresmoke appears, it will be
June indicating that we are at the mid point of 2016. Time has
the reputation of waiting for no person, fashion or design. Time also has an adverse gravitational effect on our bodies especially on those of us who spent too much time on the
fields and courts of competition.
In 1968, when I acquired my first Corvette and when I purchased my second Corvette in 1972, I had no problem getting
into and out of the fastest, sleekest and best designed car
in America. My knees were sound and I didn’t object to the
rough ride…after all; I had a 427 Vette. My Mom complained
that my Vette was too loud and it rode like it had “wooden
tires.” I guess looking back on Mom’s complaints, she was
right plus the gas consumption was horrible.
During the late 70’s and early 80’s, GM had hit a wall on design, performance and efficiency. Their answer to problems,
outside of complacency, was to cut the horsepower to under
200 HP and cheapen the design. In fact, in 1983 GM was so
disappointed with the new Corvette, they ordered the engineers
to go back to the drawing board and start over. All 1983 designs were scrapped. There were only 43 proto types that were
built and all were crushed. Ultimately, no 1983 Vettes were
produced for the public except for 1 lone survivor at NCM. The
employees at GM moved the car around the plant ahead of all
the “suits” sweeping the plant, but they had hidden the only ’83
Vette, changing the color and hiding it from sight for years
until the secret was discovered, and now it’s part of Corvette
history, the ugly duckling of all Corvettes ever built. But in
hindsight, you can’t determine where you’re going unless you
know where you’ve been, that was 1983.
By the late 80’s and early 90’s, GM and Corvette had regained
their prowess and were back on track with all the key components: Quality, Performance, Design, Affordability and Desirability. Corvette was once again back on the world stage. I
clearly remember my reaction to the C4 ZR1, I was in
awe. They are now very collectable and pricey. By 1997, the
C5 had totally taken hold of the luxury sport car market with
the LS1 engine and the re-introduction of the Z06. The C6
introduction in 2005 meant that the Corvette was only getting
better with more horsepower, better handling, superior ride, and
better fuel recovery. With the introduction of the C6, came the
disappearance of the famed “pop up headlights” and the temporary reintroduction of the 427 and the Blue Devil 638HP ZR1.
Just when we all thought the Vette couldn’t get any better, the
C7 was introduced in 2014 with a standard horsepower rating
of 460HP and with the Z06 rated at 650HP. This car is not for
the faint of heart or the timid owner. It is a seriously wicked
car. Wow, the thought of how the Corvette has evolved since
the Blue Flame 6 Cylinder and Power Glide transmission in
1953, makes the head spin.
Vice
President
Mike Venable
May was another fun filled month with things to do for our
NNC membership. It all started with lunch at the Bell Buckle
Café, in Bell Buckle Tn.. Then it was off for a relaxing weekend at The Parish Patch Farm & Inn located in Normandy TN.
Some members took walks on the 210 acre farm, while others
just relaxed in the lodge and visited with other members. Later
that evening we spent to fun evening at Cortner’s Mill where
we were served a 6 course meal, featuring foods and wines
from Southern Italy. After diner, many of us got together at the
lodge to roll the dice and play cards, into the early hours of
Sunday. A great time was had by everyone who attended and
we hope to make this a yearly event.
The following weekend we got together for the Piggitty Jiggitty Cruise to the Bull & Thistle Irish Pub in Gainesboro Tn..
Billy & Martha Gaines took us on some beautiful Tennessee
back roads. Just the kind of roads we Corvette owners love,
plenty of curves!
Memorial Day weekend found NCC members heading off in
different directions. Many attended the Auto Cross in Bowling
Green KY. at the NCM Motor Sports Park. Some drove their
Corvettes in the three day auto cross. Others volunteered their
time to work the event. No matter what you did, you helped
NCC add points in our pursuit to regain the #1 standing for the
NCCC Southeast Region,
Others took off to Granville Tn. to take part in the Heritage
Day Car Show. This is a annual event for the Nashville Corvette Club. One of the awards given out each year is in honor
of the late Sue McGee, who was a long time member of NCC.
This is a great car show where the whole town turns out to
greet everyone. One of my favorite places is Suttons General.
The ice-cream there is worth the trip alone.
June will find us cruising down to Columbia Tn. to tour the
home of James K. Polk, the 19th President of The United
States. I am sure things will be added to the calendar for June
so keep checking our calendar for upcoming event.

A Message from Gary & Joyce Downing
As we sit in a pretty empty house, PODS loaded with our belongings,
completely exhausted physically and mentally, we wanted to take
August
the time to thank all the members for all the blessings and well
wishes as we partake on our next journey. Being members of
this club for 9 years have been rewarding and lifelong friendships have formed, which are hard to leave. We shall miss the
cruises, various car shows and countless meals. When September comes, we’re sure the Touch of Gold car show will continue
to be successful.
We’re heading west now, to
be with family, particularly
young grandchildren. The Corvette is already on its way,
traveling in the presence of an
Excalibur and Lamborghini.
Though we may join a Corvette
club in our new area, we’ll
always have strong ties and
great friends with the Nashville
Corvette Club.
We’ll miss you all! If you’re ever in the Temecula/Menifee/San

Corvette: How to Remove Wrinkles From
Leather Seats
Charity News
By Ken Miller
Taking care of your seats doesn't have to be difficult, and you
don't have to live with wrinkles. Put down the seat cover catalog and read this first!

Charity Update
2 Comments
This article applies to the Corvette C5 (1997-2004), C6 (20052013), and C7 (2014-2015).
The exterior is the first thing anyone sees when walking up to
your Vette. But if you're like most owners, you want the inside
of your ride to look just as good as the outside. Most of us have
a 'go-to' product for keeping the dash and trim looking clean.
But sometimes we have a tendency to forget about the seats.
What options does an owner have if the seats are no longer
showroom perfect? Read on to learn about these options.
Hello Everyone! I hope you all have been out enjoying all of
the events the Nashville Corvette Club has to offer. There’s so
much available I’m sure you will all find something to your
liking, as I know we have. As far as our Charity activities this
year Nashville Corvette Club has made some very nice contributions to the community and continues to look for other opportunities to bring relief to those in need.
The first part of this year we have provided support to the following organizations:
The Nashville Rescue Mission in the form of Purses and
Shave Bags for the homeless women and men who use
their services. We delivered 88 purses and 37 shave
bags plus $177 that we used to purchase 35 - $5
McDonalds gift cards.
Operation Stand Down Tennessee in the form of a $500.00
donation to Colonel John Krenson, Executive Director
of the organization.
Materials Needed
§ A small, plastic bucket
§ Small towels
§ Microwave
§ Gloves or oven mitts
§ Leather cleaner and conditioner of your choice
Let's start with the cheapest
option first.
What’s Next?
At the May 9, 2016 membership meeting I requested that you
all think about some of the organizations who need assistance
that you are aware of in our community. I really want your
input so I can take the opportunities to the Board meeting June
8th. The sooner the better so I have some time to visit the organization and talk with those individuals in charge before the
Board meeting. Although I have received general areas of focus (noted below, I need more specifics, names, locations, contact information, etc.) Ideas presented to date:
Underprivileged children
Abused/abandoned animals
Senior citizens
Ronald McDonald House
“Taking the Reins” for children with developmental challenges
Thanks very much for all of your support and kindness as we
help those in need within our communities.
Have a Safe and Enjoyable Spring/Summer 2016 on the Road!

Option 1 – Use Heated Towel Method
Step 1 – Microwave the towels in bucket
The bucket is going to need to be small enough to fit inside
your microwave. Also, make certain that there are no metal
attachments on your bucket; there's no need to destroy your
microwave, or potentially your house! Roll up the towels and
place them inside the bucket. Fill the bucket with water to a
point where you can get all of the towels submerged in water.
Put the bucket in the microwave. Set the timer for five minutes,
and start the microwave.
Warning
DO NOT use a bucket or container that has any metal parts in
the microwave.
Figure 1. Make sure the bucket you use does not contain any
metal parts.
Step 2 – Place the heated towels on the seat(s)
Once the microwave goes off,
remove the bucket from the
microwave. The bucket, towels, and water will be EXTREMELY hot. Take caution
not to burn yourself. You may
want to use oven mitts or thick
gloves for the next step. Once

you've removed the towels, take them to your car. Unroll a towel and place it over a wrinkled area. It's a good idea to recline
the seat back as far as possible so that the towel(s) don't slide
down. Use as many towels as necessary to cover up all of the
wrinkled areas. Leave the towels in place until they are cool to
the touch. Once they are cool, remove them and check the seats.
You should see an improvement on the tautness of the material.
Martin Workman
Warning
The bucket and its contents will be VERY hot after being microwaved. Wear protective gloves or use oven mitts to remove
the bucket from the microwave.

There are 19 rooms left at the
Embassy Suites. Rooms are
also available at the Courtyard
Marriott. Room block price is
good until 6/17/2016. There
are several NCC members
traveling to Omaha for the
Convention. One group will
be leaving Saturday, July 16,
spending the night in Columbia, Missouri, and then arriving in Omaha on Sunday, July
17. Contact Al Bennett or
Patricia Thompson for details. To sign up for Convention go to
http://www.corvettesnccc.org/Convention2016.html.
Negotiations with the Bowling Green, Kentucky NCM Motorsports Park (MSP) has been underway for the past several
months. There are several key items within the agreement made
by MSP that NCCC cannot agree to as it will put NCCC at a
high financial liability risk. The MSP has taken a position they
will not negotiate any further to try to resolve these items.
Therefore, the NCCC Elected Officers met on 4/22/16 with the
2017 Convention Directors and discussed where to go from
here. It was decided that NCCC cannot put the organization at
financial risk and the 2017 Convention to be held at MSP was
immediately cancelled. There could be an abridged 2017 Convention. One of the ideas is to have it following the September
Governors’ Meeting in the St. Louis area. It would last from
Saturday evening to Monday evening and out on Tuesday. The
Sheraton has 300 rooms available only for those days. With
regard to the 2016 Convention, Wendell Strode cancelled his
appearance at the Omaha Convention. Governors voiced their
opinions about continuing support of the NCM. Considering all
that NCCC has contributed and now this refusal to work with
NCCC has left a bad taste. There was a vote taken to stop payment of the additional monies owed to the Motorsports Park for
the signage at the garages. Dave Goebel with East TN CC did
ask that members to please support the upcoming SE events at
the Motorsports Park because monies will come back to our
Region.
Option 2 – Use a Cleaner or Conditioner
There are many options for
cleaners and conditioners on
the market that claim to help
extend and protect the life of
leather and synthetic leather
seats. The best recommendation is to take your time to find
a product that works best for
you. Not all are the same or
produce the same results.
Working a cleaner, like Leatherique, into the seat can help preserve the leather.
Pro Tip
It's recommended to use a cleaning and conditioning product
made by the same manufacturer if possible. Use the cleaning
product first and then follow up with the conditioning product.
You don't want to use conditioner first, as you could ingrain dirt
and grime in to your seats.
If you've tried the steps listed above and you have also tried the
cleaning and conditioner option, and the seat is still wrinkled,
you may have a problem with the foam that makes up the body
of the seat. Unfortunately, that would be a much more costly
repair.

Rear Bumper Apron Protector
By Michael Kobiske
After putting a nick in the rear spoiler of my new C7, I found
this apron to protect the paint as you load/unload items. I suspect they are available for all Corvette models.
BREAKING NEWS!! NCCC announced on 5/18/2016
that the 2017 Convention in Bowling Green is now BACK
ON SCHEDULE! The dates are August 21-25, 2017. Obviously the differences outlined above with the MSP have
been worked out to the satisfaction of the NCCC Board.
New NCCC Charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (133 votes),
Shriner’s (88 votes), Lion’s Club (5 votes
New Director of Charity: Michele Cantelmo out of the East
Region
NCC members should be receiving emails from NCCC (Dave
Heinemann). Something new he has implemented to keep in
touch with members. Very important to keep your email ad-

Who Knew Part two
Dimensions of “NOW”
BY George J Kimble
We recently discussed the significance of reducing the uncertainties of the time line parameter referred to as the “NOW”. Here we
will unravel some insights to that fuzzy unknowable region with descriptions of some of the variables related to the “NOW”. We
said it was the same “NOW” whether you were impinging energy on the ends of levers in Golf or driving a Corvette. Some aspects
of the time line point “NOW” are understandable as variable facets of that threshold where “THEN” transcends into the “WHEN”.
Remembering the “NOW” is defined as that “PERFECT” point in time, where all the aspects of the frontier of ball face meeting the
swung club or peddle force meets the road and the results are maximized. The measured delivery of force, upon the three dimensional space, in a timely manner, to compel an object (mass, ball or vehicle) into a future known recordable place, in space time is never
completely defined. People might refer to that moment in time and 3 dimensional space as the “apex” (that place where the maximum deliverable force has the most effective results) on the corner or swing. This is the frontier of “NOW”. At any rate that threshold is composed of many constraining limits. One of those limits is Balance”.
“Balance” has several sub-variations that can be described in a physical sense. In order to understand balance we need to destruct
the fuzzy composite into some of its non-fuzzy (measurable) components. First we understand that “Balance” in time is the point
where the transition from “THEN” to “WHEN” crosses over the timeline point we refer to as ”NOW”. At that instant we exert harmonious actions to the ends of our levers at the most opportune time to achieve the favorable propulsion of mass into a future desired location. This is the most effective time to apply force and achieve the compulsion of mass to our goal. Some aspects that effect “Balance” are acceleration, deceleration and rotation. These variables are not mutually exclusive. These three aspects represent
some of the methods we can apply to the apex when the mass is in balance. The three dimensional aspects of the apex are determined by the lay of the space, (wherever the ball lies or the cone is placed). The amount of force we can apply or need to apply to
achieve the desired outcome from the “NOW” may only be determined by the leverage we can apply to our feebly human mechanical extensions. We can best achieve the application of force from our levers when directed towards a balanced mass.
A mass in balance can more easily be manipulated in the three dimensional space. We have need for at least three levers. These
levers adjust the desired acceleration, braking and turning. Maintaining a balanced stance in golf allows more rotating force on the
club handle and that balanced stance is rooted in the stability afforded by our legs translating the muscle forces against the immovable ground. Balance is similar in the autocrossing vehicle. We must translate the anchoring effect of the wheels in a way to effect the
desired change in the direction of the mass. A four dimensional apex’s perfect location is where balance and timing coincide. We
strive to locate this point. A balanced mass has no forces acting upon it. A mass at rest is in balance. Application of force on the ends
of levers and impacting a mass always unbalances the mass. The variable of acceleration is a composite variable with components of
speed and mass. The effect on the ball’s or vehicle’s balance is a lifting in front (leading time frame of the mass) and squat in the
rear. Braking would place weight on the front and cause the balanced mass to pitch forward squatting in the front and lifting the rear.
We could further define these variables as momentum. Momentum has both a directional quality and a speed quality. The speed
quality is represented by distance and time. The time component is always undefined. It can only be described as Then, Now or
When. Turning is also a force we can apply to the component of “Balance”. Turning is a force that propels the mass downwardly on
the outside of the arcing mass and upwardly on the inside. Sir Isaac Newton told us there would be a resistance to change in direction and speed (i.e. momentum). Tire variables, power steering, brake configuration, size of club head, and other levers deliver effect
on these intrinsic qualities. Many other conditions of the physical space affect our efforts. Incline, surface texture, and ball surface
are typical facets of these in the golf play. If we could know the exact configuration of all variables, we could be more efficient at
delivering the maximum desired change in the mass’s current position in the time line between Then and When thereby reducing the
fuzziness of the NOW moment.
Knowing some of the variables in a physical sense allows us to plan our approach to the apex point. We want to be in balance. Our
car or club should not be doing more than one thing at a time. When we try to do too many things simultaneously the intermingled
variables become too complex to assure a quality apex maneuver. In golf, the swing should be smooth and follow a continuous arc
that precedes the contact point and processes that contact point through the apex at the “NOW” into the “WHEN” of the follow
through part of the swing. In autocross the car should be only executing one force at a time as well. A smooth arc that precedes the
apex and also follows through the complete rotation of the corner will result in closer approaches to the “NOW” where all results
stem from. Approaching the “NOW” and maintaining balance is best practiced by applying braking, then turning and then accelerating, in that order. Cars and most tools to direct mass can do several things well. However, most levers do not do more than one thing
well at time. Our goal would be to find the sweet spot to start braking (the braking Now) and complete that upsetting maneuver,
therefore bringing the 4 wheels back to equilibration, assuring maximum adhesion of all the tires, before upsetting the car again by
turning in a smooth calculated arc, then rebalancing the wheels again and applying the proper amount of acceleration to utilize the
machine’s adhesion and resistance to change to move again into a stable condition.
We have to process the sensations of this balancing-unbalancing while executing the maneuver. This seat of the pants sense of balance is the difference between good times and excellent times. Our bodies and mind are very good at sensing minute changes in the
mass’s balance. We can easily tell this in a paragraph of speech and understand the physical complications of motion required. The
hard part is actual application of the levers to the sweet spot. To realize the sensations evidenced by balance and acting in the most
advantageous time with the appropriate application of force is a learned task. The first time you drive an autocross, everything happens so fast. Your heartbeat goes up 20-30 beats per minute just because of the speed. You spend more time thinking about what to
do than just doing it… You are not able to adapt right away, because for it to become natural you need laps. You may do some quick
first laps but more likely you will not! The more practice we have the better our results. The sensations of balance need to become
“natural” to you. The sensation of “natural” is when you start driving from the subconscious mind. Another example of this going
“natural” is when you were a tyke your dad may have tossed a ball to you and asked you to throw it back. Rather crudely and with(Continued on page 9)

out coordination you managed to throw it back in some direction. At that point your brain formed a mental pathway, a neural pathway representing that physical act. Over time the redundant practice of implementing that neural pathway became a subconscious
action. You no longer had to think about throwing the ball. Here is another way to think about this natural sensation processing. If
you took a cup of water and poured it on top of a mound of dirt, it would find the path of least resistance down the mound. If you
repeated that pouring it might go down the same path or maybe find a slightly less resistant path. Now think about doing the pouring
a thousand times. The water following the path of least resistance will make a deeper rut into the dirt and it will travel down that
path faster and faster. Time and again we tune our responses to the balance point closer and closer to the sweet spot in the four dimensional space. This is when we stop thinking our way around the track and start feeling the track in a tuned in natural way. i.e.
subconsciously. You seem to feel it when you have made a good drive just as you seem to feel the corner was executed smoothly.
Your mind and body are processing the balance sensation closer to the appropriate “Now” point in the time line.
One thing, is certain in all endeavors, you and everyone around you will make mistakes. At the speeds of the head of the golf driver or the racing vehicle this processing ramps up in difficulty. The time slowing ability of our minds through neural pathways allows
our balancing to be more completely realized. Only by redundantly doing the conversion from “THEN” to “WHEN” does this natural pathway develop. As Sir Richard Branson said, “The best way to learn is by doing.” It is all about the doing! I wish you all good
luck at your doing… golfing, racing or interacting with people. Just do it! Do it “NOW”!

In preparing the Club directory for this month I noticed that
there are still many member listings without photos. Individuals
with outstanding warrants and restraining orders may shy away
from photos of themselves, but with our Club seeing a photo of
someone is part of getting to know them so that they’re recognized when you actually meet. So, I’d be happy to take an
award-winning snapshot at the next meeting or event. . .don’t
be shy, just ask! If you already have a photo, just send it to me

The Nashville Corvette Club holds our next annual car show
on September 10, 2016 at O’More College of Design. The
beautiful buildings and school grounds make the perfect spot
for the new and vintage cars and trucks to be shown. However,
the friendly attitude and generosity of our Club members are
the real reason that many car lovers continue to come back to
the Touch of Gold Car Show. The Show is one of our largest
fund raisers for our many Charities. Some of those charities are
the Nashville Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, and O’More
College of Design Scholarship Fund.
The June Club meeting on the 13th is designated as Door Prize
Blitz Month. I am asking each member to bring one door prize
to the meeting. We need to collect at least 125 door prizes. We
pride ourselves in giving each participant a door prize.
Help promote the car show by sharing the show flyer with
businesses and friends. You can find it on the website under
Touch of Gold. Vendors, food, door prizes, bake sale, and
50/50 drawing make this a fun day. Come participate! We need
many workers!
Don’t forget to bring the door prizes to the June meeting!

CHEVROLET DEBUTS NEW CORVETTES COLORS
What better way to kick off Corvette event season at the National Corvette Museum than
by debuting the four new 2017
Corvette colors? The last
weekend of April each year
marks our annual Michelin
NCM Bash, and this year participants were the FIRST to
see all four new Corvette colors: Admiral Blue, Black Rose
Metallic, Sterling Blue and Watkins Glen Gray Metallic. Samples of each color car were on display and attendees got to "try
them on for size."
If you missed out, we have a few photos on our website, as
well as the 2017 Corvette ordering guide here.
2017 GRAND SPORT PRICING ANNOUNCE
Chevrolet announced today the track-bred 2017 Corvette
Grand Sport will be priced at $66,445 for coupe models and
$70,445 for convertibles, when they go on sale this summer.
The prices include the destination charge, but not tax, title and
other dealer fees.
With heritage-inspired design cues combined with trackfocused chassis and suspension elements, the new Grand Sport
builds on a legacy established in 1963, when five Grand Sport
race cars were built under the direction of the Corvette’s first
chief engineer, Zora Arkus-Duntov.

ENTHUSIASTS JOIN ACRE CLUB
In February the National Corvette Museum announced that the
“Acre Club” for the NCM Motorsports Park would be reopened, offering an additional 17 acres available for sponsorship. The acres were used to construct a berm, and are offered
at $15,000 each, payable by 12/31/2016.
Stepping up to the plate to purchase an acre were Dennis and
Jan Lombardo of Long Beach, CA. If you ask Dennis what
made them decide to participate he laughs, “Because I screwed
up and didn’t buy one last time.” Dennis says he and wife Jan
are not into motorsports, with the exception of attending the
Indy 500 each year, but that didn’t stop them from taking part
in the Acre Club. “It’s just another avenue to help the Museum
stay here,” Dennis said. “I do whatever I can… I sell raffle
tickets, memberships to the Museum.”
