She served in the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Forces Maritime Command from 1957 to 1970 and was the third and the last aircraft carrier to serve Canada. The ship was laid down for the British Royal Navy as HMS Powerful in November 1943. At the end of World War II, work on the ship was suspended in 1946. At the time of purchase, it was decided to incorporate new aircraft carrier technologies into the design. Bonaventure never saw action during her career having only peripheral, noncombat roles. However, she was involved in major NATO fleet-atsea patrol during the Cuban Missile Crisis. 169.) Stacey, Colonel C.P. Six Years Of War. The Army In Canada, Britain And The Pacific Volume. I. (August 13, 1823 - June 7, 1910) was a British historian and journalist, active in the United Kingdom and Canada. He always maintained that Canada, separated by great barriers, running north and south, into four zones, each having unimpeded communication with the adjoining portions of the United States, was a profoundly artificial and badly governed nation, that was destined by its natural configuration to enter into a commercial union with the US. This would in turn result in her breaking away from the British Empire, and in the union of the Anglo-Saxons of the American continent into one great nation. These views are most fully stated in his Canada and the Canadian Question (1891). 196.) Trueman, W. H. Russell Trial and Labor's Rights. He was a prominent figure in the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919, and was later the leader of Winnipeg's One Big Union. During the Winnipeg General Strike, he became a prominent figure in the Strike Committee which managed most city affairs. After the strike was suppressed, Russell and other strike leaders were arrested on charges of seditious conspiracy. He was the first of the strikers to go to trial, and was sentenced to a two year term at Stony Mountain Federal Penitentiary. Many observators at the time, and many since, have regarded the charges against the strike leaders as unjust and politically motivated. Item # 186 197.) van de Wiel, Debi.
