PROWESS AND FESTIVITIES
Celebrated every four years and alternating with the Olympic Games, the World Equestrian Games are undoubtedly the
biggest equestrian event in the world. The finest athletes from 76 nations will compete against each other in the 8 official
Fédération Equestre Internationale disciplines: Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Reining, Vaulting, Endurance,
Para-Dressage.
Three of those are Olympic disciplines (Jumping, Dressage, and Eventing) with Para-Dressage being represented at the
Paralympics. Horse riding is the only Olympic and Paralympic sport to have both sexes competing in the same
competition and where the athlete and horse both receive medals.
The upcoming edition will also be featuring two demonstration disciplines for the general public to discover : Horse-Ball
and Polo.

The Chantilly Estate

The Museum of the Horse
The new Museum of the Horse in Chantilly, is both an artistic and an ethnographic museum. With a resolutely up-todate museography and many audiovisuals and interactive stations, it allows visitors to enjoyably widen their
knowledge of our equine friends.

The museum includes an artistic crossing and
hippologique ages with the displaying of about
200 objects showing the importance of the horse
from the beginning of civilizations : paintings, rints,
fabrics, sculptures, broadcasting documents,
questrian equipment…
The approached themes are : the evolution of the
horse and the races of horses in the world, the
technical progress of the equipment of the horse,
the role of the horse with regard to the power, to
the war and to the hunting. The sport and the
questrian games and in particular the races which
make the fame of Chantilly since 1834 are also
represented in two spaces.
And the horse in the art, with works of universal
artists such as Dürer, Giambologna, Mantegna,
Rubens, Chick, Oudry, Géricault, Dufy...

Champs-Elysées venue a warm and luminous atmosphere using beautiful textiles, stunning objets d’art and a

Eventing Jumping Test
D’Ornano Stadium
The showjumping Test is a course of 9 to 13 obstacles similar to those found in ordinary Jumping competitions (i.e.
obstacles that might fall if knocked). In Eventing, this test is only open to participants whose horse has passed the
veterinary check on the morning of the Jumping Test. The length of the course is between 500 and 600 metres, and must
be ridden at a speed of 375 metres per minute. The height of the obstacles is around 130 cm.
Exceeding the optimum time and/or incurring any faults at the obstacles are penalised with penalty points, which are
added to those accumulated in the Dressage and Cross-Country Tests.
After the Dressage, Cross-Country and Jumping Tests, medals are awarded according to the Team and Individual
rankings.
In the Team Competition, the final rankings are determined by tallying the penalties incurred by the three best riders from
each team after the three tests.
The team with the lowest total wins.

Owned by the Head family since 1958, the Haras du Quesnay, 10 minutes away from Deauville, in the heart of the
Pays d’Auge, is a privileged place to breed Thoroughbred. A professional staff offers you quality services in stallion
management, broodmares boarding, and horses preparation for the sales.
Established in 1907 by wealthy American sportsman William Kissam Vanderbilt, he sold the property to another
American horseman, A. Kingsley Macomber, whose colt War Cloud won the 1918 Preakness Stakes. Macomber had
other wins, including the 1923 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Prior to and during the German occupation of France in World War II the property was left abandoned, until it was
acquired by prominent French horseman Alec Head in 1958, a descendant of the great trainers who founded the
English Racing Colony in Chantilly, Oise. Alec Head undertook a massive restoration of the facilities and in 1959
brought in the farm's first stallion. Over the years he and his wife Ghislaine developed Haras du Quesnay into one of
the leading stud farms in the country with horses acquired from across Europe and the United States.
Haras du Quesnay was home to prominent sires and broodmares such as Sir Gaylord, 1968 Kentucky Derby winner
Dancer's Image, the leading sire of broodmares in France in 1980 Le Fabuleux, Arctic Tern, Anabaa, six-time
champion sire in France Highest Honor, and Numerous, a son of Mr. Prospector.

Fondly called the « Versailles for Horses, Le Pin National Stud is a domain of 1,000 ha (2700 acres) and represents 300
years of equestrian history. Built in the 18th century by the King’s architect Robert de Cotte, “Le Pin” was the first entity under
the administration if the Royal Studs. Embellished by different artists, like Edgar Degas, it constitutes one of the most famous
studs in the world and remains the symbol of equestrian heritage.
The bright château provides a delightful part of the visit. Starting from the equestrian trophies won by horses born on “Le Pin”
estate, then walking through animal paintings and superb 17th Century tapestries, and ending by the dining room, the
château offers a fantastic opportunity to dive back in the Age of Enlightment…
Figuratively speaking, Le Pin National Stud employees 92 staff, five outdoor, three indoor arenas, a cross country course in
the “Haut Bois” park, a racecourse, 300 boxes…
In order to animate the Stud, Le Pin organizes on Thursdays, from June to September, a magnificent parade of horses
(stallions, mares, foals…). The famous historical carriages proudly display their traditional red and black colors.
Le Pin National Stud is home of international competitions and breeding shows. In 2008, the complex hosted more than
50,000 tourists and 19 events, three races meetings, six show-jumping, one driving and the international endurance race.

Day 1
In September 2010, the Deauville International Equestrian Complex will open its doors to the public. Novices, amateur
owners and professionals will make profit of a completely new equestrian facility with all a rider or a owner can expect
of a place dedicated to horses and horse riding. Fitted to all kind of needs as training, discovery of horse-riding,
improvement, and competition, this new equipment will give to Deauville its last missing asset.
Three indoor arenas, three outdoor rings – among which one of more than 6350m² surrounded by natural grandstands
-, 71 stables of the highest quality, a slab for 180 outside stables, a heavy horse trucks' park, a club-house with a
spacious restaurant: the Deauville International Equestrian Complex has been designed as all the other equipments in
Deauville, thinking firstly about the comfort and the efficiency.
Deauville remains strongly attached to the horse world. Thanks to its two racecourses, of its race horses training
center, of its international yearling auctions, Deauville has acquired an international reputation. The seaside resort of

On the 5th September 2014, Saint-Lô will open its’ doors to the cream of French breeding during an
exceptional day: Normandy Horse Day! This event, during the AlltechTM FEI World Equestrian Games 2014
in Normandy, has for leitmotivs the promotion and marketing of the best Normandy and French stock. A
unique opportunity to bring to the fore the tricolour know-how in breeding and preparing elite horses, for a day,
the Normandy Horse Day will offer a chance to discover the many aspects of the industry.

Taking advantage of «rest day» during the Normandy 2014 show jumping event, horse professionals, riders,
dealers, passionate amateurs, neophytes or holiday makers will all be welcome at the Saint-Lô Pôle hippique,
to experience this big event with a local flavour. Sales of young horses bred from the best French bloodlines,
National breeding Championships,a display by the Cadre Noir and also a local produce market and horse
drawn carriage rides are on the programme with the aim of attracting both a national and international public.
This day, open to all, is aimed as much towards an equestrian public as a nonequestrian one.

Having become, over the decades, one of the most recognised pools of horses in terms of international
sporting performances, French breeding today enjoys an excellent reputation throughout the world. From
racing or equestrian sports, numerous are the ambassadors of this « perfection », the trotting legend, Ourasi
(four times winner of the Prix d’Amérique), or the multiple show-jumping champion, Baloubet du Rouet, Selle
Français number one Sire in the world. Competing with the biggest European stud-books, the Selle Français
will take advantage of Normandy Horse Day, to further increase its’ popularity amongst foreign connoisseurs
brought together for the occasion.
