Saturday Headliner – award-winning Mountain Dulcimer
player and Folk and Americana singer-songwriter
Bing Futch
(Orlando, FL)
With a big smile and wild
dreadlocks, Bing Futch kicks
off every performance with a
buoyant energy that is inviting and
energizing.
Using Appalachian mountain
dulcimer, Native American flute,
ukulele, drums and electronic
effects, he deftly navigates the
varied waters of traditional and
modern Americana with passion,
wit and a genuinely huge heart for
sharing music with a crowd.
Known for his musical shapeshifting, Futch switches the
channels on style with every new
song, sung in a limber tenor voice
and woven together with the other
instruments. His casual way with
any audience, coupled with a fierce
originality on the lesser known
mountain dulcimer, makes e ach
show a one-of-a-kind and good-timing
romp!

Welcome to the 20th annual
Central Ohio Folk Festival!
Dear Festival Participant:
The mission of the Columbus Folk Music Society (a not-for-profit organization)
is to promote the appreciation, understanding, private playing, public
performance and enjoyment of folk music, song, dance, storytelling and the
other folk arts inclusive of all cultures. The annual Central Ohio Folk Festival
is one of the most important means we use to accomplish this.
All of the activities are free, with the exception of the workshops and the
Saturday evening concert.
Please consider coming out and joining in the many family friendly activities.
Whether you are an individual or a family, a musician or a lover of the folk
arts, we know you’ll enjoy the various activities and music and you’ll learn
new things and make new friends!
We want to add that this festival would not be possible without so many
helping hands – from Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park volunteers and
employees to the Columbus Folk Music Society members and friends who
donate their time and talents to make this weekend fun and enjoyable for
everyone. This is in addition to all the many musicians and sound personnel
who give of themselves so tirelessly. A big thank you to all of those folks!
Festival Co-Directors,
Sharon & Art Mittenbergs

Central Ohio Folk Festival celebrates its 20th!
In 1993, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department and the Marion Square Pioneer
Dulcimers & Singers launched the Central Ohio Dulcimer Festival. The festival was, in part,
an
effort
to
fill
the
void
left
by
the
discontinuation
of
the
Great
Black
Swamp
Dulcimer
Festival
where thousands of dulcimer players — not to mention saw players, autoharpists, bones players
and fans of American folk music — were thrown together at The Ohio State University Lima
Campus for 14 straight springs from 1979 through 1992.
The Central Ohio Dulcimer Festival ran from 1993 until 1996. In 1995, the Columbus
Dulcimer Club took over its overall running. In 1996 the Columbus Dulcimer Club was
winding down and made an offer to some of the folks from the Columbus Folk Music Society
to combine The Central Ohio Dulcimer Festival with Columbus Folk Music Society endeavors.
The
first
Central
Ohio
Folk
Festival
was
conducted
in
1997.
The
Central
Ohio
Folk
Festival,
like its predecessors, continued in the tradition of providing a multitude of instructional
workshops. The festival has been described as the “jewel in the crown” of the Columbus Folk
Music Society. In 2004, the festival moved to the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, where it
has found its home ever since.
