From the President
This month is our first issue of the Corvetter Newsletter Online and as an electronic monthly publication sent to all our members via e-mail. I am doing this
myself but actively looking for a volunteer to take it over in the coming months.
As you may already know, this month we lost Barb Damico due to diabetes
complications. She was a true treasure of a person to know and will be missed
at every club meeting or event.
A lot happening this month with trip to Bush Library
Tour, car show and Wildflower and I hope all will attend.
Something different to happen at our car show on Mar
25th, we will be packaging up the Soldier Car Packages
on site and will need help to make it a success so volunteer for about an hour to this
worthy cause.

January 21st Bandit
Run II
The day dawned dark and dreary. It
was raining hard and fast and most
people of the town of Houston rolled
over in their warm beds and went back
to sleep. However, the call had gone
out again and it was time to roust old
Pancho out of Brookshire. It was said
Pancho Villa, the mighty Mexican
warrior, has led his men once again
deep into the heart of Texas. He had
set up camp somewhere outside of Brookshire and had begun terrorizing the good citizens
of Brookshire and Navasota. Pancho was raiding the nearby ranches stealing horses, cattle
and striking fear into all men, women and children of the area. A call had gone out that
something must be done. Who would rise to the occasion? Who would be brave enough to
take on Pancho and his men? Once again, that call was answered by the fearless members of
the Sam Houston and San Jacinto Corvette Clubs. The mighty Corvettes converged on the
city of Brookshire from all over the area. They came in from the north, the east and the
south. They came in as singles and as full convoys of 6 or more cars. A little bit of nasty
weather did not slow them down. They showed their colors. They shined in the morning
light as the clouds seemed to lift and blow away with their arrival
at the Flying J Truck stop just south of Brookshire.
In all, fifty one Corvettes showed up to participate in the run.
They held 88 battle tested Corvette fans, 41 from San Jacinto and
47 from Sam Houston. These road warriors knew the ropes.
Most had participated in the previous Bandit Run and knew the
dangers that lay ahead yet they came again. As they prepared
their mighty steads for the upcoming battle with Pancho, they
exchanged greetings and renewed old, deep friendships that can
only be earned over battle. The talk ranged from new engines
added to the Corvettes to shiny earrings found on the ladies.
However, most of the talk was directed to or about the dark,
mysterious and ever so charming Loreta. Who was this Spanish
fem fatale? Where did she come from and why did she join the
group? Pepe, the friendly Mexican guide, simply said that Loreta
knew Pancho’s darkest and deepest secrets. Loreta had spun her
seductive charms on Pancho and tricked him into an alcohol
induced deep trance. While under Loreta’s influence, Pancho had accidentally spilled out
the location of his lair and the Senorita Loreta would lead the Corvettes to Pancho’s hideout.
Pepe yelled, mount up, and the day began with a combined roar of the mighty engines. The
people of Brookshire stood along the route and waved at the Corvettes as the battle began.
Even the Brookshire constable came out to take pictures of the warriors as they filed out on
the dangerous journey. Loreta said go north to find Pancho and the group stormed out of
Flying J and the race was on.
Sam Houston Corvette Club
Volume 1 Issue 1 MARCH 2012
Cont.
The Corvettes stormed north up Highway 359 looking for signs of Pancho and his men. They were
greeted by a large group of riders from the Houston Bicycle Riders Association of America. These
bicycle riders were everywhere. An alliance was quickly struck. The bicycle riders were not fast
and could not keep up with the charge after Pancho, but they could prevent him from returning to
Brookshire. The bicycle riders formed a rear guard all over Waller County and bravely defied Pancho. They united and shouted, Pancho, you can never return here. The Corvettes raced north after
Pancho providing him with no relief. After a brief stop outside of Hempstead, the chase resumed.
Loreta said Pancho sometimes hangs out around Navasota and the warriors raced north to Navasota. The Corvettes travelled at a great pace. The rural county citizens welcomed the site of the
Corvettes and pulled over to let them pass. They knew what dangers lay ahead and that only the
Corvettes could rid the area of Pancho and his men. The Corvettes briefly rested their machines in
Navasota next and laid their plans for the balance of the campaign. Pace of the battle was brutal
and took its toll on all of the Corvettes. One of the older steeds, a brave and proven C3 had to retire in Navasota. The rest of the warriors saluted the wounded warrior as he limped off the field of
battle in search of a new battery. Loreta again suggested where Pancho might have gone. The
brigade should proceed north towards Roan Prairie on FM 3090. FM 3090 was wild and twisty
testing the Corvettes and their drivers. Know that this battle was not a romp in the park for the
Corvettes. There were casualties during this battle, just not to the Corvettes. A brave group of
riders from the Harley Davidson Club of Houston had also answered the call to drive Pancho from
the area. They had an experienced rider suffer injuries while negotiating the perilous roads north
of Navasota in Grime County. The Corvettes all slowed down and paid their respects to the fallen
warrior and their accompanying County Sheriff attending to the wounded. The County Sheriff
saluted the Corvettes as they passed. He knew the dangerous mission they had undertaken; the
radio calls had alerted him to their presence. The Corvettes were allowed to proceed on their mission with little delay.
The Corvettes rested again in Roan Prairie and questioned where should they go next? Pancho has
proven an elusive and tricky warrior and continued to slip just out of their grasp. Loreta assured
the Corvettes that he must be hiding in Montgomery and the Corvettes mounted again and pursued after him. The Corvettes split into two groups to ensure Pancho could not slip by them. The
main group headed east around Montgomery to the north and towards Lake Conroe. The second
trail group charted a separate path on their own in search of Pancho. They went further south and
through Montgomery cutting off Pancho’s escape to the west. The battle tested warriors converged
on Wolfie’s Sports Bar and Grill in the afternoon at the southern end of Lake Conroe. The day had
turned out to be glorious. The weather warmed up throughout the day and everyone enjoyed the
dinner and good fellowship at Wolfie’s. Two more Corvettes met the warriors at Wolfie’s just to
hear the stories of the adventure. The town’s folk of Montgomery and Conroe came out and celebrated with the Corvettes. The day was a success. Pancho had turned and fled south once again. He knew he was no match for the mighty Corvettes.
As the mighty Corvettes rested, a nagging question remained unsolved. How had Poncho so effectively out maneuvered the Corvettes this day? He had
escaped again, that is for sure. Pancho is a Wiley Coyote. The Corvettes had joined forces with the Houston Bicycle Riders of America, the Harley Davidson Riders of Houston and the town’s people of Brookshire, Navasota and Montgomery. Pancho was no match for this combined force. Could it be,
the dark and mysterious Seniorita Loreta had betrayed them and was working for Pancho all along? Did the gentle and jovial Pepe really possess a dark
side? Had he alerted Pancho to the very presence of the Corvettes along the perilous route? Or was there another amongst the group who had sided
with Pancho? Perhaps a disgruntled Porsche driver who had not joined the warriors on their mission against Pancho for reasons known only to himself?
Stay tuned and find out how this story continues. For now, so ends the story of the Bandit Run. The mighty Sam Houston and San Jacinto Corvette
clubs had united and once again banished Pancho from the state of Texas. It was a good day for all. If this whimsical tale makes no sense to you, you
should have been there. Maybe next time? The bandit will return.

The Soldier Care Packages will be
packaged at this show Mar 25th
from 11am to Noon.
Please come out and help!
The Sam Houston Corvette Club
raises funds throughout the year for our
charity work. Our funds are used to purchase, pack, and ship "Care Packages" to
our military men and women. We purchase goods and add donated items,
which are then sorted and packaged in
individual boxes. These "Care Packages"
typically contain items such as: personal
hygiene products (men’s and women’s),
shampoo, nail clippers and files, Q-tips,
foot powder, heat packs, hand warmers,
tissues, deodorant (roll on), baby wipes,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable
razors, condiments, artificial sweeteners,
life savers, mints, crackers, hot chocolate, powdered cool aid, powdered Gatorade, crystal lite, candy, nuts, cookies,
breakfast bars, playing cards, recent
magazines, and so much more. The Sam
Houston Corvette Club then packs these
items and ships them out to soldiers. We
maintain a list of deployed soldiers to be
sure the packages reach a soldier in the
field. If you have a name and ad-
dress of a soldier please let us
know and we will get them a
package!
