Viewing Materials in Write Source
Special Ed teachers, Instructional Specialists, Librarians, etc. do not have personal logins for the Write
Source program but may follow these directions for viewing the materials online. Only classroom
teachers will be able to assign activities.
After installing the WriteSource program from the App Depot, the program will be launched from the
Language Arts folder in PISD Apps. You can also use the web address http://ws.hmhpub.com from home
or school.
Logging In
Click the Login button.
Username: [email protected]
(The "4" in this email address represents grade 4;
substitute other grades as needed. Write Source is
available for grades 2-5.)
Password: Password= Txla2011 (case sensitive)
The generic login above will allow you to see grade-level materials for the grade level that corresponds to
the email address you used when logging in.
The full Write Source manual for classroom teachers includes instructions on creating classes and making
assignments. This manual is available on the PISD Language Arts planner. Once logged in to the LA
planner (http://ec.pisd.edu), click the blue Resources button at the top of the page, then scroll down
slightly to the “Technology Resources” area.
When students log in, they must indicate their state and school name from drop-down menus. Because
some schools are listed according to the entire namesake of the school (i.e. Charles Wesley Andrews or
David McCall), a list of Plano ISD school names has been provided in the Technology Resources area of
the Language Arts curriculum planner (see above).
After selecting the state and school name, students enter their 6-digit ID# in both the username and
password fields.

Click the View All link near the bottom of the screen.
Double-click the cover of the desired book to open it.
Note: Plano ISD purchased ONLY the English version of Write Source. You may see Spanish editions on
the book shelf, but that is because you are loggedin generically.
To use “highlighter” or “notes,” click the highlighter or notes icon once, then click anywhere on
the page to activate. The notes and highlights will not be saved when you close the book.
Since the ebooks open in a new window, you can click on the red “X” in top-right hand corner of
the screen to close them without closing your entire dashboard.
