They can bring your topic to the full board for discussion, resolution, or implementation. Each one of the above individuals is willing to give their time and effort for our organization. Not always an easy thing to do in our 'rush, rush' environment. Thank you! IN MEMORIAM On Wednesday, January 21 , 201 5, Judy Simms’ husband, Charlie, passed away. Judy was a SLADS Executive Officer, Show Chairman, member and competitor. As individuals and as a team, Judy and Charlie worked many volunteer hours for SLADS. The SLADS Community extends its sympathy to Judy and her family over his passing. SLADS AWARDS BANQUET AND ANNUAL ELECTION Held January 1 7, 201 5 Spazio's at Westport The weather was lovely for a Missouri January evening, the food was great, and it was so good to see so many SLADS members attend the banquet this year. Congratulations to all who received ribbons which represent of year of great teamwork and hard work. Special recognition was given to Jessie Borgmeyer (Vice President/Show Committee Chairperson) and Sarah Szachnieski (Secretary/Volunteer Coordinator) as they completed their time in office for all the uncounted hours of work they have given to SLADS during their tenures. A number of thank-you's are in order. First to Jessica Fussner-Gould for giving the keynote speech. It was a good one. Then to Caroline Casey for letting the audience know how much she valued and used the 201 4 Junior/Young Rider Scholarship. Lastely, to all who worked to pull the banquet and awards together. Your hard work is appreciated. We now have a youth rider in SLADS that will be participating in the NAJYRC (North American Junior Young Rider Championships). This is quite an honor and a most incredible undertaking. Let me share with you what this team has in front of them! Time is the first hurdle. Qualifying scores for the championship may only be earned at designated USEF/NAJYRC Qualifying Competitions within the qualifying period which started on July 1 , 201 4 and ends on June 22, 201 5. So we have a lot to do in a short time, having missed the first six months of the qualifying period. To start the process, the horse and rider must register (lots of forms) and the horse needs an FEI Passport (more paperwork), a medical exam and must be micro-chipped. There is much more paperwork but that is the gist of getting started. Next is to secure at least three qualifying scores that average 62% or better, from the remaining five qualifying shows. At each show, they must ride the JR Team Test and the JR Individual Test. At one of the qualifying competitions, the freestyle must be executed and receive at least 62% to qualify. Did I mention we are still working on the freestyle? Not to worry! Once the qualifying period ends, the scores from all riders and regions will be tabulated and the top four riders of each region will be selected to be on the region’s team. There are several options if the region doesn’t have a full qualifying team. If possible, regions will combine to develop a full team. If that isn’t possible, the rider will enter as an individual and ride the JR Individual test. The Championships will be July 1 4th -1 9th at the Kentucky Horse Park. This is a CDI event and that format will be followed. The horses will be stabled in a specific area and the jog will be required as will all governing FEI rules. It is a rare and unique opportunity for a club to have a young rider with the dedication and skills to pursue this advanced avenue of competition. Let’s all come together and support Jenna Upchurch and Paddington as they embark on this new challenge! TEST UPDATES If you will be riding the following tests, you need to be be aware of corrections to the tests printed in the 201 5 USDF Member Guide: • USEF First Level Test 1 ; movement #11 should read F-X-H Change rein. X Working trot • FEI Prix St. Georges ; movement #2 should read C Track to the right, M-X-K Medium trot, K-A-F Collected trot • FEI Intermediate Test 1 ; movement #1 5 should read H-X-F Extended Canter Complete copies of these score sheets can be found on the USEF website. HOOFPRINTS 7 USDF has Begun its Search for Future US Dressage Finals Sites The US Dressage Finals presented by Adequan will continue to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park, in Lexington KY, through 201 5, but will be moving to a more westerly location from 201 6-201 8. According to USDF President George Williams, "In recognition of the size of our great country it has always been our goal to rotate the US Dressage Finals between the eastern and western part of the country every three years. We have several wonderful facilities west of Lexington, and we're hoping they take advantage of the opportunity to apply. It will be exciting to see where the Finals may end up for 201 6 thru 201 8."
