welcome message
Work accidents and occupational diseases claim the lives of
millions of workers annually and cause significant economic and financial
losses. Providing and sustaining safer and healthier workplaces are
among the common goals for all countries. This issue had been discussed
as part of the employment agenda at the Turkish G20 Presidency in 2015.
This common goal will be achieved through cooperation between
the countries as well as exchange of knowledge, experience and
best practices. To this end, the Turkish Ministry of Labour and
Social Security has been organizing an international conference on OSH
every two years since 2001 and “8th International Conference on
Occupational Health and Safety” will be held in İstanbul on May 8-11,
2016 with the participation of the academicians and experts leading
in their fields, representatives of relevant international organizations,
universities, trade associations and non-governmental organizations
from all over the World. The Scientific Advisory Board has determined the
motto of this Conference as “Sustainable Occupational Health and Safety”.
Various aspects of occupational health and safety will be
discussed extensively with 36 main topic under “Sustainable
Occupational Health and Safety” motto. Participants will also have
opportunity to meet the innovations in the field of
occupational health and safety in the Turkish Occupational Safety and
Health Exhibition (T+OSH Expo) held concurrently with the Conference.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Republic of
Turkey is proud to be your host for this major organization in
2016. I invite you to the Conference to benefit from sessions of
the Conference and explore İstanbul, where the continents meet.

İstanbul is the largest city of Turkey and fourth largest city proper in the World with a population of 15 million. It is located on the Bosphorus Strait and ancompasses the natural harbour
known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country. It extends both on the European
(Thrace) and on the Asian (Anatolia) sides of the Bosphorus, and is thereby the only metropolis in the World that is situated on two continents. Once was capital of the Ottoman Empire,
Istanbul still remains the commercial, historical and cultural pulse of Turkey, and its beauty
lies in its ability to embrace its contradictions. Ancient and modern, religious and secular,
Asia and Europe, mystical and earthly all co-exist here. Its variety is one of Istanbul’s greatest
attractions: The ancient mosques, palaces, museums and bazaars reflect its diverse history.
