Hi Everyone! Welcome to the 19th
Trivantage Times edition, it’s hard to
believe we are on to number 19 already!
We hope you all had a great Christmas
with loved ones and managed to recharge
the batteries for 2015. The New Year has
commenced and by the looks of the What’s
Happening articles, each branch is off
to a busy start. We welcome all our new
employees and in particular our new 1st
year Apprentices. We also announce the
winners of our Sand Castle competition,
some snap shots from our Christmas
celebrations and include a Thank You
letter from one of our happy customers.

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
As we move towards the end of the financial
year period we reflect on the year that was.
The National electrical manufacturing,
contracting and services markets remain
highly competitive with companies
continually looking to innovate to gain a
competitive advantage. Growth has become
secondary to ensuring the effective delivery
of service and products to our current
customers to allow the delivery of a solid
return to our shareholders.
In December 2014 the decision was
made to restructure the Trivantage Group
business into four (4) new business divisions
Electrical Services, Building Technologies,
Manufacturing and Infrastructure.
This decision was made by the Executive
Management team and the Board of
Directors to ensure we enable management
to engage with an Executive team of key
decision makers that are enabled to promptly
deliver high value outcomes in line with their
divisional strategic plans to both clientele
and other key stakeholders within the newly
restructured business.
In the last three (3) months the Trivantage
Group have also implemented a
Manufacturing Consolidation Strategy that
has not only improved efficiencies within
the Victorian and Brisbane manufacturing
facilities but delivered significant costs
savings back into the business.

We are very proud of our dedicated
management team’s determination and
continued efforts. They have demonstrated
a high level of commitment to the transition
and restructuring that has taken place over
the past year and the continual review and
streamlining of our business activities in
order to achieve best practice.
So far in 2015 we are seeing growth in all
four of our newly restructured divisions. The
challenge will be to ensure we enact the new
businesses divisional strategies which will
allow us to maintain shareholders returns
while making sure we right size the business
to control our cost base.
Part of these strategic plans will be to
ensure we have the operational processes,
procedure’s and people in place to deliver the
work in hand and the sales pipeline in future.
We remain committed to our people, our
safety, our customers, our environment and
our community. Our strong culture leads us
to these basic principles and is reinforced
in our corporate mission statement and the
adoption of our vision and values.

along with the rest of the Board of Directors

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Eagle Farm Pump Station
SJ Electric Qld was recently awarded a
contract to upgrade the Control System
at QUU’s Eagle Farm Pump Station in
Brisbane.
Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) is
responsible for supplying drinking water,
recycled water and sewerage services to a
population of more than 1.4 million people
in South East Queensland. The Eagle Farm
Pump Station is a critical asset in the
Brisbane Sewage network servicing the
main sewer catchment constituting the
majority of the Brisbane City Council. It is
the city’s largest sewerage pump station,
having a design capacity of 8,000L/s (That
will fill the average domestic swimming
pool in approximately 6 seconds!)
delivering effluent approximately 9.6km
to Brisbane’s largest sewerage treatment
facility, Luggage Point Waste Water
Treatment Plant.
The existing GE Fanuc PLC Control System
was at the end of its life and was identified
as being in need of replacement. The
control system was quite extensive and
consisted of 7 PLCs and 14 Remote IO
racks which controlled the five sewage
pumps and the common ancillary
equipment.

The project commenced in May last year
with the extensive site investigations and
planning of the individual stages of the
project. Each stage of the control system
changeover had to be meticulously planned
as it was imperative that the Pump Station
remained functional to maintain the
continual operation of the QUU sewage
network. The project required conversion of
the existing GE Fanuc PLCs to the Siemens
S7 PLC’s together with development of a
new SCADA system using Schneider Citect
SCADA. The developed PLC & SCADA
programs went through several levels of
exhaustive testing offsite on a purpose built
test bench made to replicate the entire
control system that was to be implemented.
The testing regime had to be approved and
witnessed by the Client before the new PLC
& SCADA control system could be rolled out
onsite.
The old control system hardware then had
to be removed and the new Siemens system
installed, tested and commissioned while
the pump station remained operational.
The project is due for completion in June of
this year .The changeover of the remaining
three pumps and common equipment is still
yet to be completed. The project has had its
challenges with determining strategies to
keep the site operational while carrying out
the control system changeover, the Client
requiring changes to the project schedule to

accommodate other projects on the Eagle
Farm site and wet weather events. Our
team on site consisting of Andy Walmsley
(Site Supervisor), Alex Curley & James
Ward continue to achieve great results by
ensuring an operational pump station while
achieving a high level of workmanship
through all phases of planning, installation
and testing of the new control system
hardware.
A few Eagle Farm Pump station facts:
•
Total Pump Station control is provided by a Pair of Siemens S7-
400 PLCs configured in Primary/
Standby arrangement.
• Each of the five sewage pumps has a dedicated PLC for control & monitoring.
• The control system is connected to over one thousand two hundred control or monitoring points.
•
The Eagle Farm Pump Station actually comprises of two individual pump systems to provide redundancy. Pumping System 1 has three 2000Kw pumps and the Second pumping system has two 1800kw pumps.
• The pump motors operate on 6600 Volts.

Select Harvets, Carina
West Processing Facility HV
Conversion
Trivantage Power has been contracted by
Select Harvests to design and construct
22kV grid connection upgrades for the
Select Harvests Carina West Processing
Facility located in Wemen, Victoria that
will convert the LV metered supply to HV
metering and additionally accommodate
the connection of a 2.8MW generator that
is to be installed in 2016.
This project is the first part of the H2E
(Hull to Energy) project for Select Harvests
that will convert the Hull of Almonds grown
locally to Energy.
This is an exciting project that requires
Trivantage Power to work with the Client,
Network Service Provider, Metering
Provider, Generator supplier and Regional
Council to develop all the connection works
and HV conversion across six different client
sites. There are two sites located on the
Murray River adjacent to pumping stations,
three dam pump sites located within the
Almond orchard itself and one at the
processing facility itself.
Switchboard, protection and control
systems, 2.5km of 22kV underground cable
and five 22kV kiosk substations.
The HV conversion of the remainder of the
sites is scheduled for end of March 2015.

The project involves the installation of a
22kV network connecting the dam pumping
stations and processing facility to enable the
generator to supply power to all the pumps
within the network and also to export excess
power to the grid when required. The system
is also designed to work in ‘island’ mode
when the grid is not available.
Trivantage Power has successfully
commissioned the first site of the projects
that required the design, supply and install
of a 22kV switchroom complete with 22kV

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Melbourne Airport T4 New
Terminal Project & T2 BALT (Bus, Airline Lounge & Transit)
Ladd Electric have been contracted to
A.E. Smith for the mechanical electrical
installation on 2 new building projects at
the Melbourne Airport.
Project 1 - The T2 BALT project has
just been completed and was extremely
challenging from many aspects, from site
access (airside), to design integration with
existing terminal, and builders program.
A job well done by all involved and led on
site by Daniel Argyle.
Project 2 - The T4 project is currently 75%
complete and is an extremely large site
requiring 2 separate work crews. There
is the main terminal located landside

consisting of approximate 100 Fan Coil Unit’s,
Smoke Exhaust Fans, Ventilation Fans, Split
Units, Pumps, and large Air Handling Units
located on roof (Pictures attached). We have
also manufactured and installed a total of 6 x
Mechanical Switchboards for this part of the
project.
The other part of the project is the Cross
Concourse and Pier G buildings which are
both located airside. These buildings consist
of ERV’s, Daikin VRV air conditioning systems,
Smoke Exhaust Fans and ventilation fans.
Ladd have also manufactured and installed a
total of 5 x Mechanical Switchboards for this
part of the project.
The boys have done a great job to date led by
Ben Notley.

Barangaroo Project Sydney
Barangaroo is a $6 billion landmark Sydney
project on the western foreshore of Sydney
harbour aimed at being the first precinct in
the world of its size to be climate positive.
The project is hoping to achieve a minimum
5 star NABERS energy rating and 6 star
office energy design rating. Due to the
sheer size of the project (22 hectares) the
area has been broken down into three
zones. Ladd Electric NSW conduct works
within the Barangaroo South zone which
consists of 3 commercial towers, Crown 6
star casino, 2 residential towers, and two
low level apartments along with retail, ferry
and subway services.
Common basement plant areas supply
the whole precinct and Ladd’s contract
consists of the electrical for the chilled
water systems, seawater intake systems
(taken in from the harbour to be used for
cooling and pumped back out) and the
seawater backwash filtration systems
including instrumentation and controls.
Additional specialised protection had to be
implemented to combat the highly corrosive
and submersible environment. Some of
the switchboards installed on site were
over 6 metres in length and pumps and

VSD’s with active harmonic filtering ranged
up to 220kW. Stage one is now nearing
completion and I would like to thank Geoff
Ladd (design), Frank Franjkovic and team
(manufacture) as well as Craig Copland and
Scott Campbell (installation) who have been
on site for 8 months now.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Mooka Ore Car Repair Soh (OCRS)
Project
The Mooka OCRS project is a BHP site
which is situated in the remote north of
Western Australia, about 30 minutes out of
the town of Port Hedland. SEME has been
engaged by McConnell Dowell to supply,
install and commission a fully integrated
CCTV, access control and security solution
to the entire OCRS facility.
Some of the equipment to be installed and
commissioned by SEME includes: industrial
swing, sliding and pedestrian gates, PTZ
CCTV cameras and poles, Gallagher access
control, Jacques intercoms and intruder
detection devices to name a selection.
Safety on all projects are always of the
highest concern and BHP projects are
considered to be one of the most safety
conscious clients around. However there
are a few additional considerations which
need to be added into the daily SWMS’
and toolbox talks when working in remote
locations such as Mooka. Spiders, snakes,
cyclones, high temperatures, etc. all need
to be part of everyone’s daily focus above
and beyond the normal safety concerns.
Engineered out of Perth by Hiren Patel,
SEME was able to ensure that all of the
usual BHP processes and submissions
were completed and approved before our
nominated mobilisation date. The site team
of 4 Leigh Bradbury, Richard Vial, Adam
Berry, led by Liam McSheffrey will be
flying in and out of site for approximately
6 months until the estimated completion
in July 2015. Site progress to date is on
schedule and progressing well with some
very good opportunities for additional works
being realised. Thanks to the excellent
relationship with our client and BHP, to
date SEME has been able to increase the
project value by over a third, with more
opportunities still available.

Woolworths Blackwood
SJE SA recently completed Woolworths
Blackwood. This project involved the
full light and power refurbishment of
the existing 40 year old supermarket to
the latest Woolworths standards. The
project included new main switchboard,
distribution boards, emergency standby
generator, lighting, power and data
throughout the store. Majority of work
involved both day and night shift of an
operational store. Matt Belperio was the
leading hand on site and his crew ensured
the project was carried out smoothly and
efficiently. The project was delivered within
a tight time frame and on budget. Special
Thanks to John Gauci in NSW for delivering
high quality switchboards within the
required timeframe.

Osborne Park Hospital
SJ Electric has recently completed the
Electrical/ Data/ Installation to Osborne
Park Hospital in Perth. This installation has
been staged to complete an area before
progressing onto others.

and monitored many variations due
to design changes by the hospital &
consultant.

Coles Cranbourne Park Project
This project was a long time in the making
with a significant size supermarket and
multiple tenancies adjoined to an existing
large shopping centre. Being the nominated
electrical refrigeration contractor for the
Coles supermarket phase, SJ Electric
had the task of working in with hundreds
of other trades on this substantial sized
project. Melbourne Refrigeration is the
client contractor and Hacer being the
principle contractor, both of which SJ
Electric have worked alongside is the past
and have a good relationship with.
Designs for the refrigeration on this Coles
project did not differ much from numerous
previous projects with the low temperature
department consisting of a Co2 refrigerant
configuration and both Medium
temperature departments being 134a.
SJ Electric have entrusted this project
to one of our commercial refrigeration
foreman, Brett Gebbing and working
under him was a handful of very capable
employees. With the knowledge of the
refrigeration expert Bill Cope, SJE are well
aware of all modifications and changes
made to new refrigeration systems.
Wiring of a Co2 Configuration system
takes some tedious time in sorting through
new components that are introduced on
a regular basis; also, the introduction
of some new suppliers for Co2 safety
equipment meant more time efficient
working for our onsite personnel. The
Cranbourne Park site is due to open
towards the end of March 2015.

Project Velocity, Woolworths
Facility, Truganina VIC
Following tough competition, SJ Electric
secured the light and power switchboards
from IES on behalf of Vaughn constriction.
SJ Electric was also awarded the
refrigeration portion of the job which
meant the manufacturing department were
required to supply over 25 switchboards
totalling 60 meters in length. These two
contracts were to be delivered and installed
within 7 months from the award date.

The main supply to the site is from four
substations which include four 1500KVA
transformers.
The four main switchboards, rated at 2500
amps each are connected together by bus
ducts rated 2500A through bustie ACBs
installed in each of the main switchboard.
The backup generator supplies were
connected through an automatic transfer
switch arrangement in each of the boards.
A castel key locking system is installed
throughout to enable isolation of the
supply from individual transformers by the
use of bustie switches. This enables the
four switchboards to remain operational
while a transformer is disconnected
for replacement or maintenance. Load
SJE NSW & Maser Communications
Partnership
SJE NSW is currently undertaking four
major projects with Maser Communications
and more are on the way. They are installing
a Voltage Optimiser at the Masters DC in
Hoxton Park, two voltage optimisers at the
Woolworths RDC in Wyong and installing
over 300 LED Hi Bay replacement fittings
at Swires Cold Storage in Hoxton Park. SJE
NSW were first contacted by Maser last
year thanks to a recommendation from
Woolworths and have quickly grown into
a great partnership for both companies.
Maser has been installing the Digital
Lumens LED Hi Bay product for some time.
Utilising wireless technology, it allows the
client to fully control the lighting needs.
They’ve also just become the Australian

distributor for the EMS Powerstar Voltage
Optimiser. A UK market-leading product
making a large push into Australia.
Digital Lumen Hi Bays are to be installed at
the Woolworths Wyong RDC and there are
more Voltage Optimisers in the pipeline
Each site has its own particular challenge
but the SJE staff continue to get through
them all. For example, the Swires Cold
Storage job involves working in -25oC all
day, and the shutting down of a Distribution
Centre means all hands on deck for many
hours working very hard to get the job done
and power back on.
SJE NSW is looking forward to a long and
successful relationship with Maser.
As of the current moment, SJE NSW have
successfully installed one of the Voltage
Optimisers at the Wyong RDC, with the
second VO to be installed in April. The
Masters DC Voltage Optimiser is also
scheduled to be installed in April. The
Swires LED changeover is very nearly
complete. In the immediate future, over 700

Manufacturing Update
South East Water opted to construct
an Odour Control Facility (OCF) for
containment and treatment of odorous
emissions from the primary treatment
area of the Mt Martha Sewage Treatment
Plant (STP). The project was undertaken
with Fulton Hogan as the lead contractor.
CEI’s involvement in the project undertook
the electrical installation of the main bio
tracking filter, heaters, carbon activation
filters, extraction fans throughout the
treatment plant all dosing pumps and
instrumentation. The electrical works
required a 140meter cable tray installation
through the treatment plant tunnels
and also included retrofitting the existing
switchboard with new motor control cabinets.

designed and implemented by CEI.
The principal of the design was to draw
contaminated air through the associated
upstream ductwork with the use of an
extraction fan. The system then forces the
air to enter the base of the bio tracking
filter before entering the carbon filters. The
contaminated air now treated is dissipated
through a ventilation stack into air. Part of
the electrical scope was the development of
software which had to conform to the EPA
regulation.
The system electrical design was completed
in-house by Michael Eaton; Michael’s
commitment to the project was first class
and much appreciated. Our electrical install
was overviewed by Alain Rozic who always
gives 100%, Thanks for the effort guys.

Woolworths Torrensville
The new Torrensville Shopping centre is
located on the original brick manufacturing
site just to the west of the Adelaide CBD
and was completed by SJE SA. The site is
a state heritage listed site and as such has
its own restrictions as the original chimney
stack and surrounding building has been
included in the complex. SJE SA, through
Control Air, were awarded the contract
for the refrigeration electrical works in
the Woolworths supermarket and the Dan
Murphys.
Neil Moore was the leading hand on this
project and was assisted on site by Matt
Bunfield.

Chocolate and Peanut Caramel shortbread
spotlight on
Ingredients
240g unsalted butter, softened
55g (1/4 cup) caster sugar
250g (12/3 cups) plain flour
1 1/2 x 380g cans Nestle Top ‘n’ Fill Caramel
100g roasted salted peanuts, chopped
175g (1 cup) chopped bitter dark chocolate
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line the base and sides of a 20cm x 30cm
slice tin with baking paper.
2. Using an electric mixer, beat 175g butter, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon
sea salt until light and fluffy. Add flour and beat until the mixture just
comes together. Press into the prepared tin, then bake for 25 minutes
or golden. Cool.
3. Place the caramel and 40g butter in a small saucepan and whisk
over low heat until mixture boils and is smooth. Scatter the peanuts
over the shortbread layer, then spread over the caramel mixture and
refrigerate for 20 minutes or until firm.
4. Stir chocolate and remaining butter in a heatproof bowl over a
saucepan of simmering water until melted. Cool slightly, then spread
over the caramel layer and refrigerate until set. To serve, cut into
squares with a sharp knife.

Safety Awareness – Electrical Safety
Awareness
As individuals we all have our own work
ethics but it is important that part of our
work ethics include as a minimum our
obligations to Health and Safety by:

Answer: Electricity
You are probably all aware of the
tragic events that occurred recently at
the Morley Shopping Centre Western
Australia, where an Electrical Incident
took place resulting in the death of 2
electricians and seriously injuring 2 other
electricians. At this stage there has been
no official report from the Electrical
Safety Office or Work Safe WA on the
causes of this tragic event. This is a
reminder of the dangers that our industry
can present when things go wrong. The
following message is not designed to
speculate on what may or may not have
happened at Morley Shopping Centre but
to look at ourselves, our systems of work,
our policies and procedures.
Prevention
There are three basic steps that should
be taken to ensure a safe and healthy
workplace and prevent incidents. These
three steps are:
>Identifying the Hazard: This involves recognising things which may cause injury or harm to the health of a person. For instance – Electrical Works, Working at Heights, Poor Housekeeping.
> Assessing the Risk: This involves looking at the possibility of injury or harm occurring to a person if exposed to a hazard.
> Controlling the Risk: By introducing measures to eliminate or reduce the risk of a person being exposed to a hazard.
Definitions:
Accident means an unplanned occurrence
or incident that causes or contributes to
personal injury or damage to property.
Incident means any unplanned event
resulting in, or having a potential for
injury, ill health, damage or other loss.
So what can we do?
We have policies and procedures that
are designed to provide a safe platform/
foundation. It is important we all
understand and comply with them and
where there is room for improvement,
provide feedback – as you are the users of
the systems it is important that they work
for you.
The above steps are the basic
requirements for your development of
your Safe Work Method Statement.

On 6 December 2014 all SJ Electric QLD and Trivantage
QLD employees, partners, and children were invited to
attend a break up party at the Everton Park Hotel with a
special visit from Santa!
SJE VIC, CCS, POS, Trivantage, Ladd & Church
All the Victoria branches celebrated together with
family day held at Melbourne Zoo and the break up day
function at the Barkly Hotel.
SJ Electric SA
Staff were treated to a fishing charter where
they caught snapper, snook, shark and had an
attempt at stingray. There was an added bonus
for the person who caught the largest fish;
Lukas Ongel and also a prize for the unluckiest
fisherman for the day; Ben Adamou who spent
most of the day leaning over the side of the
boat!

Group CCTV
Group CCTV celebrated with a low key BBQ
at Andrew’s home. Instead of the old Secret
Santa they decided to mix it up a bit and each
employee was asked to bring a neutral present
to take part in a present stealing game. There
was one item that everyone seemed to want
which was a Radio Esky filled with Lollies
and it was stolen several times with Ashleigh
Lotherington taking it home!

An enjoyable time was had by all staff at
Panorotti’s Restaurant at the Panther’s Leagues
Club. They filled up on pizza, pasta and some
beautiful desserts and then outside at the
Squires Terrace Bar where the boys filled up
on...........well, I’m sure you can work out the
rest! Cassie Shorten (Service Coordinator) also
gifted these cool reinbeer to some of the guys!

In addition to the staff party, all the kids were
treated to a family day including a clown, face
painter, jumping castle, lolly buffet and a visit from
Santa at the Como Bowling Club!

MOVIE REVIEW
Gone Girl (MA15+) 149min
It is few and far between in our household that
we are able to have a movie night that doesn’t
consist of Cars, Monsters Inc and Shrek, and
when we do it is always hit and miss as to
whether we picked one worth watching.
Finally we hit the mark! Gone Girl is a 2014
American psychological thriller directed by
David Fincher and adapted by Gillian Flynn from
her 2012 novel of the same name. It stars Ben
Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
On the occasion of his fifth wedding
anniversary, Nick Dunne reports his wife Amy
missing. Under pressure from the police and
growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a
perfect relationship begins to crumble. Soon
his lies, deceits and strange behaviour have
everyone asking the same question: Did Nick
Dunne kill his wife?

this mystery thriller shifts emphasis and
perspective continuously. Taking a right turn,
then a left and flipping upside down, you will
find yourself asking “did he or didn’t he”
so many times you lose count. It is a plotobsessed picture that’s determined to stay one
step ahead of the audience at all times.
Some other pleasant surprises include the
appearance of Neil Patrick-Harris and Trent
Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross’s
creepy-optimistic synthesized score.
This film never drags, nor does its mood settle.
I found this movie thoroughly entertaining and
often brilliant from beginning to end.
