DICOM Application Entity Title. Must be unique in a DICOM network
Acquisition Workstation
Each manufacturer of a DICOM device has to provide such a statement
which gives an overview of the products DICOM capability.

Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Reduces the complexity of configuring computers for TCP/IP networks. The following TCP/IP configuration
can be dynamically assigned by a DHCP server: IP Address, Subnet
masks, gateway and additional parameters like domain name.
The darkest area of an image that a device can reproduce and still have
detail. A Dmax value of 4.0 would be considered perfect.

Port address of image management to query/retrieve images on a
MagicStore PACS
32-bit address assigned to hosts using TCP/IP. An IP address belongs to
one of four classes (A, B, C, D) and is written as 4 pairs separated with
periods (decimal point format).
The IP is part of the socket address. Here IP means Internet Protocol.

Query / Retrieve is a service class which provides the ability to retrieve/
transfer a well-identified set of images.
Part of the socket address. Different DICOM services on the same host
PC may use different port numbers.
Radiology Information System
The subnet mask is used to extract network and sub network information
from the IP address.
A device that connects different networks. In a TCP/IP environment a
router is used to connect computers that are located in different IP
address ranges.
A structured description of a service which is supported by cooperating
DICOM Application Entities, e.g. Storage Service Class.
Service Class Provider, e.g. a Storage Service Class Provider provides
the capability to receive DICOM images from a DICOM AET Storage
SCU.
Service Class User, e.g. a DICOM Storage Service Class User can send
an image to a DICOM Service Class Provider.

Location of the RIS Bridge

The procedure of installing and configuring the RIS connection depends on the decision,
where the RIS bridge shall be installed.
NOTE
As first option, RIS bridges shall be installed on syngo MammoReport workstation.
Only for specified exeptions, use Virtual Machine RIS computer to
install the RIS bridge on.
Use the RIS “Standalone” only as last resort to install the RIS
bridge on.
There are 3 options where to install the RIS bridge:
•
As standard option, RIS bridges shall be installed directly on syngo MammoReport
workstation.
Continue with overview on page 2 - 5 or refer to details on page 3 - 1.
•
It is strongly recommended NOT to install the Mitra Context Server bridge on the syngo
MammoReport workstation. Install this RIS bridge on a Virtual Machine (VMware),
where the RIS application is running separately on the syngo MammoReport computer.

•
Only as last resort a RIS bridge can also be installed on a stand-alone

The hospital network administrator has to be contacted to check that the network
communication is opened for the required data exchange.
•
The setup for the RIS computer should be carried out by the RIS administrator/service.
•
The RIS computer must be reachable via TCP/IP from the syngo MammoReport
system.
•
The RIS Connector is a license protected feature of the syngo MammoReport system.
NOTE
The license number that is requested directly by the production
line is supplied via file.
NOTE
The RIS computer may be a Virtual Machine also.
For setup see RIS on Virtual Machine on page 4 - 1.
Installing the RIS Bridge

It is strongly recommended NOT to install the Mitra Context
Server bridge on the syngo MammoReport workstation:
This bridge shall be installed on a Virtual Machine RIS computer.

Starting the Installation

1. Restart Application via Main Menu Options ⇒ End Session.
2. Click Yes to confirm the application restart on the appearing message.
3. When the syngo screen saver appears, press and hold the left shift key until the
Windows login appears.
4. Log in as user Administrator in Windows.
5. Insert the syngo MammoReport RIS Bridge CD.
6. In the Explorer change to drive D:\.

7. Start the installation by double-clicking on Installer.exe.
The bridge installer opens with required preset values for SCR Settings.

NOTE
Delete any bridge that is not needed.
If deletion is required, perform the following steps:
• First, select existing item in RIS Bridges Configured section.
• Click Delete to free the list.
A confirmation dialog is opened:
• Click Yes in the Confirm Unconfigure dialog.
• To free the RIS Bridge Installed section, repeat these steps.

We will also describe the port with “4701”. Even this setting is

Uninstalling a RIS Bridge

The de-installation of a syngo MammoReport RIS bridge depends
on the location, where you have installed the RIS bridge.

On the RIS client, delete the folder
C:\Programs\MeVisBreastCare\XAPP\Bridges\HttpServer0 and all it's content.
•
In the RIS client AutoStart folder [all users], delete the file HttpServer0.bat.
RIS bridge installed on syngo MammoReport

On the syngo MammoReport, delete the folder C:\MBCXapp\Bridges\HttpServer0
and all it's content.
•
Delete the file C:\MBCXapp\pm\HttpServer0.pm.
In every case:
1. On the syngo MammoReport, run syngo, login as MammoAdmin and start the SCR
settings dialog.
2. Delete the RIS bridge in the SCR Settings.
3. Restart syngo MammoReport

The installation takes about 45 minutes.
Disabling the Auto Login for syngo meduser
NOTE

Using the shift key while booting to enable the log in window
does NOT work on systems with USB keyboard installed.
1. Log in to syngo as Administrator.
2. In the Local Service windows click Configuration.
3. Go to Local Host ⇒ Users
4. Uncheck the Enable Autologin function for meduser.
5. Click Save, then Home and close the Local Service.
6. Restart the system via the End Session dialog.
Basic Installation

1. Log in as OS administrator to the syngo MammoReport computer.
2. Disconnect the network cable from the computer.
3. Insert the syngo MammoReport VMware DVD to DVD drive D:\.
4. In the Explorer change to D:\ and wait until the disk is loaded. This may take about a
minute.
5. Start the installation by double-clicking install_VM.bat.
VMware files are copied from the DVD.
This takes up to 10 minutes.
No progress indicator is shown while copying a ~ 3.5 GB file.

The network cable must be disconnected before continuing.

With the first start the Windows XP Professional setup makes the Virtual Machine unique.
1. After some minutes the setup opens the window for setting the computer name and the
administrator password.
NOTE
To change the cursor location in-between syngo MammoReport
display and VMware Player display press Ctrl+Alt for back and
Ctrl+G for forth direction.
2. Click twice into the Windows XP Setup window and enter the Computer name,
e.g. VM_<host name>.

Do NOT change the administrator password here.

The default password for the administrator account of the Virtual
Machine / RIS computer is the syngo administrator password.
The syngo administrator password is used only for installation
purpose. It shall be changed later.
3. Click Next and wait for System Preparation finishs and restarts the Virtual Machine.

4. After the reboot a file named DskCnfg.ini is opened automatically:
close the file without any further actions via mouse click on the cross in the upper right
window corner.

4. Observe the task bar: wait until VMware Player window is closed automatically.
5. From C:\VMRIS open again Windows XP Professional.vmx by double-clicking.
The VMware Player restores the status from before last exit: the RISUser is logged in,
the desktop shows black background.
6. Again, exit the VMware Player via Main Menu ⇒ VMware Player ⇒ Exit.
Using the Virtual Machine with syngo MammoReport

The Virtual Machine needs to be configured also for the meduser account.
1. On the desktop of the syngo MammoReport computer open the Explorer and browse to
C:\MBCSCR\recovery.
2. Run autologin_meduser.exe by double-clicking. Wait until the auto login for meduser is
set.
3. Re-connect the network cable.
4. Restart the syngo MammoReport system via Start ⇒ Shut Down ⇒ Restart.
5. Login to syngo as Administrator.
6. On the VMware Player License Agreement window select Yes, I accept the terms of
the license agreement.

The syngo MammoReport is unidirectional controlled by the RIS computer using one of
the following File Polling systems from different vendors:

The folder C:\MBCXAPP\Bridges\FilePolling0 on the syngo MammoReport
workstation is already prepared for the file sharing.

This folder must be connected from the RIS computer by using the Windows Explorer
function mapping network drive. Therfore use the following path:

(<IP address> = IP address of the syngo MammoReport workstation)

Check the file sharing, e.g. by creating a text file in the shared folder.

1. Login to syngo MammoReport as user with Radiologist rights.
2. Open a case with the patient ID and accession number on the RIS computer and check
that this patient is opened for reviewing on the high resolution displays of the syngo
MammoReport system.
3. An RIS error message may appear after log in (or user change) and it will reappear as
long as the connection does not work correctly.
4. Click OK on the error message being displayed.

The RIS and the syngo MammoReport are connected uni-directional, i.e. information
(accession number) is sent from the RIS to syngo MammoReport, but no information
according to patients is sent from syngo MammoReport to the RIS.
If a case is opened for reviewing on the high resolution displays (e.g. by a ViewNow on a
patient, or by a case change in the current work list), certain information is sent over to the
RIS, so that the same case is opened on the RIS.

The RIS and the syngo MammoReport are connected bidirectional, i.e. information
(accession number) is sent from syngo MammoReport to the RIS, and information
according to patients is sent from the RIS to syngo MammoReport.
If a case is opened for reviewing on the high resolution displays (e.g. by a ViewNow on a
patient, or by a case change in the current work list), certain information is sent over to the
RIS, so that the same case is opened on the RIS.

synchronized
- Type: Optional = Identifier for the calling system (here: syngo MammoReport)
- Command Auto Sync: Optional = Command that is supposed to be executed on
MEDOS system after patient change on syngo MammoReport
- Command Manual Sync: Optional = Command (manually triggered) that is supposed
to be executed on MEDOS system after pressing synchronization key on syngo

- Test connection:
Use command from: Optional = Make selection as demanded
Study Instance UID: Optional = Enter value of test image
- Port: Required = Port used by the program tell MammoReport (shall be different from

2. Open a test case on the RIS computer and check that this patient is opened for

4. An RIS error message may appear after log in (or user change) and it will reappear as
long as the connection does not work correctly.

2. Open a test case with appropriate patient ID and accession number on the RIS
computer and check that this patient is opened for reviewing on the high resolution
displays of the syngo MammoReport system.
3. Open a test case with appropriate patient ID and accession number on syngo
MammoReport system and check that this patient is opened also on the RIS computer.

The RIS application needs to be enabled to write the polling files into the specified folder
on the syngo MammoReport workstation:
- C:\MBCXAPP\Bridges\PenRadXML0\FileTransferIn

These folder on the syngo MammoReport workstation are already prepared for the file
sharing.

These folder must be connected from the RIS computer by using the Windows Explorer
function mapping network drive. Therefore use the following paths:

Checking the PenRad XML RIS Connector

1. Login to syngo MammoReport as user with Radiologist rights.
2. Open a test case with appropriate patient ID and accession number on the RIS
computer and check that this patient is opened for reviewing on the high resolution
displays of the syngo MammoReport system.
3. Open a test case with appropriate patient ID and accession number on syngo
MammoReport system and check that this patient is opened also on the RIS computer.
4. An RIS error message may appear after log in (or user change) and it will reappear as
long as the connection does not work correctly.
5. Click OK on the error message being displayed.

Connection error message will reappear upon log in or user
change in case the network connection does not work correctly.

This chapter describes the configuration of the PenRad Serial RIS Connector for syngo

The RIS and the syngo MammoReport are connected uni-directional, i.e. information
(accession number) is sent from syngo MammoReport to the RIS, but no information

(if this is used for the null modem cable). Select 4800 Baud. Enter 8 data bits and 1 stop
bit. Make the other settings as required and close this window by clicking OK.

Settings (see Fig. 1).

Preparing the RIS computer

If a problem with the RIS connection occurred, the RIS administrator needs to check the
following settings:

Importing the License File

1. Login to syngo as administrator.
2. Insert the License CD into drive D:\.
3. Open via Main Menu ⇒ Options ⇒ Service ⇒ Local Service the Configuration
service function.
4. From the System Options select Service ⇒ Licensing.
5. Click the Select New License file link, then click Browse.
6. Browse to the License CD and select the license file (*.dat).
7. Click Open to load the file into the path display.
8. Click Save on the action bar and wait until saving is completed.

Disabling the Automatic Start of Virtual Machine

The Virtual Machine is always started together with the syngo MammoReport. This
behavior is defined in SCR_System.pm to be found under C:\MBCSCR\syngo\config.
If the customer does not want to start the Virtual Machine together with the syngo MammoReport, the according entry in SCR_System.pm must be commented out:
1. Restart Application via Main Menu Options ⇒ End Session.
2. Click Yes to confirm the application restart on the appearing message.
3. When the syngo screen saver appears, press and hold the left shift key until the
Windows login appears.
4. Log in as user Administrator in Windows.

General File Sharing
This chapter is only valid for the File Polling bridge and the PenRad XML RIS connector
for syngo MammoReport VB24 or higher.
It describes what has to be checked in case of sharing problems.
Check the File Sharing Settings

Check read and write permission of the share.
•
Sometimes you have to add a user if the file share is running on the RIS PC:
- Add local account with user meduser and password.
•
Otherwise please contact IT department (e.g. in case of different domain name,
different subnet etc.).
Installation of RIS bridge failed

Possible cause
Solution
Installation directory was not correct.
Refer to chapter Uninstalling a RIS Bridge on
page 3 - 5 to get information how to uninstall a
RIS bridge.

If log file indicates this as the cause
Check MBC-RIS license

- MammoReport Logical Name and Port (not
accessible from GUI)
- Logical Name, Host and Port of each bridge
- Active flag for each bridge
- Additional settings like time-outs, etc. (not
accessible from GUI)

Connectivity problems with bridge in VM
Problem
Solution
If Echo is not successful.
Re-configure the setting as follows.
The problem is caused by the Realtek
Network Adapter driver.
• Login as Windows administrator:
The on board checksum calculation
(default setting) fails under some circumstances.
- Open <Control Panel><Administrative
Tools><Computer Management><Device
Manager><Network Adapters>
• Select “RealTek PCIe GBE ...“, Submenu
entry “Properties”
- A new dialog window displays.
• Select “Rx enabled” from the list and
confirm the new settings with “OK”.
- The Echo shall work from now on.
• Reboot computer to ensure that all
components have registered the new
network settings.
