SEMINAR ON OVERSEAS CHINESE IN LATIN AMERICA:
CONTEMPORARY MOBILITY AND NEW IDENTITIES
6-8/11/2014
University of Macau
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of The University of Macau
(UM) and the Macau Association for the Promotion of Exchange between Asia-Pacific and Latin America
(MAPEAL), have co-organized the Seminar “OVERSEAS CHINESE IN LATIN-AMERICA: CONTEMPORARY
MOBILITY AND NEW IDENTITIES” from the 6th to 8th November 2014.
The development of relations between China and the world, especially in Latin America, has fostered a
significant increase in Sino-Latin American interactions not only in institutional contexts (such as work and
study) but also in the media and in non-institutional contexts.
The challenge of this Seminar was trying to understand how people with different backgrounds (such as
Chinese and Latin Americans) have been dealing with all this changes in historical, social and humanistic
perspectives.
