My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Our mission statement is to “advance the mission of Jesus through
faith-filled prayer, service to my neighbor, and generous sharing.” If we
examine our prayer life over this past year, would we see growth and a
surrendering to God’s will? If we were to examine how we treated our
neighbor, would we see how God loves us? If we were to examine how
we share what we are and have with others, would we see the generous
love out poured for us from the cross? If we can see these things happening in our lives, may we be grateful and ask God for the grace to continue
and even grow stronger. If we are blind or cannot see these things in our
lives, may we have the courage to ask Jesus to help us to see.
There have been many opportunities for us to advance the mission
of Jesus, but I would like to share a few with you. We have brought in
Rich Curran to assist us in closely examining our Faith Formation staff
and ministry, and help us come up with effective and creative ways of
growing in and sharing our faith. KCSS has become more effective and
efficient by moving all grades over to Holy Cross and moving to a Catholic Classical Curriculum. We continue to promote and financially support
KCSS, this year our support is $229,758. The Cathedral Increased Offertory program has challenged us all to look at how we financially support
our parish family. The planning committee, with your input, is examining how our parish can be more effective and efficient in using the resources we have to carry out the mission of Christ. Bishop Ricken’s pastoral letter entitled, “Teach My People to Pray”, will challenge us over
these next two years to grow in our personal prayer life.
As we begin this new year, may we with grateful hearts seek first to
advance the mission of Jesus. May we place our trust in God as we answer the question, “God, what is it that you want me to do?”
