Installation With An Existing Router Or Modem/Router
What do I need?
What will I be looking for?
To connect your VT2442, you need a broadband Internet connection and an active
Vonage account. If you purchased your VT2442 Voice Gateway from a retail location,
you must first activate your Vonage phone service. (You will need to provide the WAN
MAC ID on the bottom of the VT2442.)
Here’s what you’ll find on the rear of the VT2442 Voice
Gateway:

need to get your Vonage® Internet Phone Service
working with the Motorola VT2442 voice gateway.
Take a look at the equipment, follow the simple
instructions provided here, and in no time at all you’ll
be part of the telephone revolution.

always needed.)
Which set of instructions should I follow?
Do you already have a router, or does your DSL or cable modem have a built-in router?
HINT: If you have more than one computer connected to a single Internet connection, you have a router. Some Internet service
providers supply combination modem/routers. Look on the back of your modem. If it has multiple Ethernet ports, it is a modem
with a built-in router. If you are not sure, call your cable or DSL provider.
This guide contains enough information for most customers to begin using their Internet phone service.
The VT2442 User Guide on the accompanying CD-ROM contains more detailed instructions and
troubleshooting information, as well as a glossary of relevant networking terms.
If you answered yes to either question, follow instruction set A on the next page.
