and losing power as a visible force

It has often been said that we are living
in exciting times as we see events unfold
leading up to the climax of the ages. These
days may be exciting, but they are also
very trying. Surely the sober words of the
Apostle Paul would apply to our age when
he admonished Timothy that; “Now the
Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter
times some shall depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of
devils” ( I Tim. 4:1). In his following letter
to Timothy he expanded his warning by
adding; “This know also, that in the last days
perilous times shall come” (II Tim. 3:1).
Throughout the vast majority of America
today, there seems to be a sense of
uneasiness and uncertainty about many
things. The national debt politicians have
burdened us with, foreign wars our military
is conducting, rising unemployment,
illegal immigration; terrorist threats from
Islamic extremists and ungodly leadership
throughout all levels of government are just
the beginning of our national turmoil.
It appears as though our American culture
is sowing the same seeds of destruction
that resulted in the eventual downfall of
the Roman Empire. The historian Edward
Gibbon in “The Decline and Fall of the
Roman Empire” (1788), gave the following
reasons for the collapse of Rome.
1) The undermining of the sanctity of
the home.
2) Higher and higher taxes: the spending
of public funds for ‘free’ bread and
circus for the masses.
3) The mad craze for pleasure; sports
becoming more exciting, brutal
and immoral.
Even with blatant signs of moral and spiritual
decay staring us in the face; it appears
that modern Evangelical and Charismatic
ministries are afraid to seriously address the
vital issues. Instead of sounding a prophetic
alarm to our nation, there is a major emphasis
upon financial prosperity. Cotton Mather
said; “National righteousness is the mother
of national prosperity, but now prosperity
has devoured its mother.”
It is past time that we return to the Christian
principles of our early national foundations.
In 1782, the United States Congress
approved this resolution; “The Congress of
the United States recommends and approves
the Holy Bible for use in all schools.” On
July 4, 1821, John Q. Adams, our sixth
President and chairman of the American
Bible Society said; “The highest glory of the
American Revolution was this: It connected
in one indissoluble bond the principles
of civil government with the principles of
Christianity.”
Two hundred years after the founding of this
great Anglo-Saxon Christian nation, we are
now bowing at the altar of multiculturalism,
religious pluralism, hedonism and infidelity.
Jesus Christ, righteous government, the Holy
Bible, the wisdom of our forefathers and the
warning of God’s prophets seemingly are
NO LONGER WELCOME!

Stamps 101
Stamping is a gr eat way to add some extra
flare to your scrapbooks, car ds, and other paper crafts. Here are some basic facts you need
when choosing your stamps and the ink for
your project.
Basic Stamp Types:
• Wood-mounted Rubber: PROs: They ar e super easy to use. They have mor e detail due to
the etching being deeper. Cons: These stamps
are ver y costly. They ar e the most expensive
type of stamps. They r equire a lot of space
to stor e since each stamp is per manently attached to its own wooden block.
• Clear Acr ylic Stamps: PROS: These ar e
much, much cheaper than wood stamps. They
use less storage space since the same acr ylic
block can be used for many stamps. And since
the blocks are see-through, you have pinpoint
accuracy when placing your stamps on the
paper. CONS: Due to the soft edges of the
stamps, mor e detailed pictur es will look less
detailed after stamping. They ar e fragile because they can tear easily . And they can lose
their tackiness if not cared for properly.
Basic Ink Pads
• Pigment Inks: pigment suspended in a
thick, glycerin-based substance. This thickness boosts opacity and brightness. This is
the type of ink you would use for heat embossing because it is a slow dr ying ink. This ink
is best used for car d making, embossing, and
scrapbooking. Most of these inks are acid-free
& fade r esistant. The one major drawback is
that its is not good to use on coated, glossy,
or nonporous sur faces (transparencies, vinyl,
etc.). Another drawback is that they ar e harder to cleanup and will stain fabrics, woods, and
carpet.
• Dye-Based Inks: a fast drying, water based
ink that soaks into paper staining the fi bers.
They are ver y easy to cleanup. The best uses
are for card making, matte or glossy card
stock, nonarchival scrapbook projects, and watercolor techniques. The drawbacks ar e that
they tend to bleed on textur ed/fibrous papers
and they will fade in direct sunlight.
Having this basic knowledge of stamps and
inks should help you in cr eating your papercrafting projects. Once you have your stamps
,you will want to make sure you clean them after ever y use. Craft stor es will have cleaning
kits with cleaner and a cleaning pad. If you
don’t want to spend the money on the cleaning
kits you can use baby wipes. But you want to
be sure to get all the ink off of your stamps.

When He had risen from the dead, His

The disciples r emembered--and then they believed.
After the death of Jesus on the cr oss and His r esurrection, they r ecalled and fi nally understood Jesus’
words, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will
raise it up” (John 2:19).
If our faith is to gr ow, we too need to r emember
the cross and the empty tomb. Jesus established a
memorial of His death, a practice we call the Lor d’s
Supper, knowing that our faith and hope would be
strengthened as we r emember what He has done
for us. He said, “Do this in r emembrance of Me”
(1 Corinthians 11:24). Ever y time we meet to drink
of the cup and eat the br ead, we r emember what it
cost Him to redeem us.
The tr ue believer does not live in memories only ,
however, but with hope for the future. W e ar e to
partake of the cup and br ead “till He comes” (v.26).
The One who died for us also r ose from the grave.
As we think of our loved ones who have died in the
faith, we look beyond to the day when the graves will
be opened and we will meet them again. W e can be
sure that because Jesus lives we too shall live.
We may shed tears today in memor y of those who
have died. But as we recall Christ’s death and resurrection, our faith and hope ar e r enewed. Let’s r emember! --MRD

ANNIVERSARY
April of this year, the New Castle Camera Club
is 40 years old. Time does whiz by. The club was
formed by customers from our store and a class that
was studying at the Hoyt Center. It started with an
executive committee of six people and that format
is the way the club is still run today.
The original board was: J.R. Patterson, Vince
Lamorella, Bill Fox, Bob McClurg, Zack Allerton, and
“Pappy” Printz. The club’s meetings consisted of a
program and competition, as it still does today.
Vince Lamorella designed our first logo. It showed
an enlarger in the background with a movie camera and a 35mm camera placed side by side. The
meetings had a competition in not only black and
white and color prints, as well as slides, but also
8mm movies. Then and now, you were limited to
three entries in any category.
Dr. Jack Fassinger started an open print show for
the club that still runs today. Mike Caggino and Dr.
Fassinger were big in black and white, as was Dan
McEwen later on. Movies and slide competitions
were dropped. What was really a 35mm club has
now become almost 100% digital.
The club still meets on Thursday night once a
month. At one time, it was twice a month. Meetings
start at 7:30pm and usually last about two hours.
The board is now: Bill Conkle, Sam Locke, Fred
Jenny, Mike Pagani, and Dawn Wehman.
