Message from Honda Malaysia
“We are confident of completely overcoming the challenges we faced last year and fulfilling
our customers’ expectations for better mobility solutions.”
The year 2012 marks a new year of dreams and challenges for
us all. Having made my debut with Honda in the year 2004 and
gained first-hand experience as a Sales Assistant catering to the
Japanese domestic market, I look forward to providing quality
products and service to Honda Malaysia’s customers during my
tenure here.
In 2011, Honda saw a challenging period of successive natural
disasters happening in Japan and Thailand that affected production
worldwide, including the Malaysian plant. Because of this, we
have been working hard to ride the wave of challenges in order to
recover full operations. As a result of securing new parts suppliers
in October, we are more than happy to announce that we have
resumed full production by 20th March 2012.
With Honda, it is not just a car, it is also a lifestyle. I believe
that when our customers make a purchase with us, we are
transforming their lives through Honda. Therefore, we are excited
to have launched the New Honda Insight Hybrid and All-New
Honda Jazz Hybrid in Malaysia recently. By introducing more
affordable and environmentally-friendly solutions to the local
community, we strive to bring diversity to Honda’s current line-up
and further strengthen Honda’s global environmental vision. Rest
assured that as we deliver versatility and satisfaction through
our upcoming products, we will continue to be closer to the
community and reach out to our customers in virtue of Honda’s
brand philosophy.
As an effort to realise Honda’s global environmental vision of
“Blue Skies for Our Children”, we are also pleased to announce
our collaboration with KidZania. Through this unique partnership,
we are able to allow the next generation to gain an understanding
of the automobile industry, ultimately empowering and shaping
young minds for the future. Kindly read on to discover more about
our sponsorship and the Honda latest hybrid range in this magazine.
We are thankful for the unwavering support and kind understanding
of our customers through last year’s events. As we are moving
towards a new era of mobility with people and community as its
focus, we are confident of completely overcoming the challenges
we faced last year and fulfilling our customers’ expectations for
better mobility solutions.
I wish you a rewarding journey with us!

eeping you safe in your Honda
A total of 307 Honda customers got the opportunity to learn safety driving
techniques, in both theory and practical lessons, which equipped them with skills
on driving positions, vehicle control and reaction to traffic hazards.
Honda’s commitment to road safety does not stop at enhancing car safety technologies and
advocating proper maintenance. As part of the company’s continuous efforts to make driving
safe for customers, a recent Customers’ Safety Driving Course was held in five sessions in
October and November 2011. Honda Malaysia has been organising safety driving courses
for customers since 2003 and at dealerships, qualified and trained staff members have been
promoting safe and eco driving tips to customer during car delivery.
Honda City Club Malaysia: “We just organised a very successful
visit to two underprivileged homes this morning(29/01/2012) and
donated food and daily essentials worth more than RM6K to Tara
Bhavan Orphanage and Persatuan Warga Tua (Dan kanak-kanak)
Wilayah Persekutuan. Great job to all who made this possible!”

Since 2007, Honda Malaysia has undertaken
several green projects to reduce emissions,
improve energy efficiency and recycling
manufacturing by-products. By 2009, the
Melaka plant was operating with virtually
zero waste to landfills – most waste from
food to manufacturing by-products are
recycled. Even oil wastes are filtered
through oil trenches to prevent it from
leaking into the environment.
Each year, incremental steps are taken
to improve air ventilation and energy
management. This year, the plant effectively
reduced energy consumption to 234kg/u from
261kg/u last year. Aside from more LED, T5
and induction lighting installed, there are nine
new solar LED street lights and nine solar LED
garden lights that were recently installed in
March. These overall improvements not only
dramatically keep operational costs low but in a
resource-intensive industry, the commitment
to protect the environment is increasingly
crucial for our community’s well-being. This,
we know, is a promise that Honda can keep.

Orchestrating a creative renaissance
“It is the constant pursuit of innovation that will ultimately shape
our industry.”
Dahlan Abdul Ghani, film lecturer, on the evolution of art.
True to his profession, Dahlan Abdul Ghani
is an animated individual who is eager to tell
his story and share his journey of passion for
the local arts and animation industry.
Having grown up watching Woody Woodpecker
and Bugs Bunny in the comforts of his living
room, Dahlan has always been intrigued by
the process of cartoon animation. Years after,
the passion and curiosity towards film and
animation continued to burn brightly when he
convinced his father to allow him to pursue his
animation studies at Multimedia University.
Upon graduating, Dahlan pursued a career at
TV3 as head of programme until one day, his
colleague invited him to spearhead the newly
formed Akademi TV3 as a lecturer. Being an
incredibly supportive figure of the budding
animation industry in Malaysia, he accepted
the offer and began a stint in teaching. Today,
he is a senior lecturer of Creative Multimedia
at Universiti Kuala Lumpur with 10 years of
teaching experience.
6
Dahlan aims to provide a conducive learning
environment for his students. “Every class
would entail the history of animation, which
can range from Disney’s early years to
the anime (Japanese animation) history,”
he stresses. “But apart from theoretical
studies, I try to relate my industry knowledge
to students and encourage them to find
inspiration in their personal experiences.
It is vital to learn the art of storytelling and
incorporate it in our creations.”
Besides teaching, Dahlan is also embarking
upon a special project for his PhD studies.
Eager to see Wayang Kulit, a dying art form
preserved for future generations, he is in
the midst of translating the ancient art into
3D animation. While travelling in Kelantan
two years ago, he had the opportunity to
witness an authentic Wayang Kulit play and
was thoroughly fascinated by it.
7
Profile
“Nowadays, as Wayang Kulit plays are
performed only in rural villages and based on
classic Indian epics such as the ‘Ramayana’
and ‘Mahabharata’, which may be difficult
for people to access and understand. Then
it struck me that it can be brought to life
through modern storytelling and computergenerated imagery (CGI) animation,” he
relates. “Thanks to my mentor and ‘Tok
Dalang’ Pak Nasir, I am able to adapt
Wayang Kulit into short animations, present
it in a palatable form for modern society
and yet retain the essence and integrity of
Wayang Kulit.”
Dahlan is optimistic about the future of
Malaysia’s animation scene. He believes
that with passion and determination, today’s
budding animators will be able to transform
the local animation landscape and aspire
towards being among the animation greats
such as Pixar. For this, he looks up to Honda’s
long-practised philosophy of continually
challenging conventions and turning dreams
into reality. “A very good example would be
Honda’s venture into robotics with ASIMO. It
is the constant pursuit of innovation that will
ultimately shape our industry,” he confides.
Dahlan cannot wait to see his dreams turn
into reality too. “I hope that With Dreams
readers would be able to understand our
never-ending efforts in animation and I
would love to be able to complete my
Wayang Kulit project in the very near
future.” We certainly hope that we will be
able to see it on the big screens too.

ho says green can’t be
the colour of passion?
Which would you rather sacrifice, a fun ride or affordable fuel
bills? None, if you are driving a Honda Hybrid because now, you
can have the best of both worlds with three hybrid options.
Ever the market leader, Honda Malaysia introduced the first hybrid vehicle in Malaysia with
the Civic Hybrid in 2007. The Insight followed in 2010 and just recently got a facelift, while
2011 saw the arrival of the dynamic CR-Z. Perhaps the most exciting milestone yet is the 2012
launch of the All-New Honda Jazz Hybrid to complete the Honda hybrid family.
The Honda hybrid powertrain combines the advanced i-VTEC engine with the Integrated Motor
Assist (IMA) Hybrid System to help you achieve enhanced performance and outstanding
fuel efficiency. For your peace of mind, Honda is offering a 5-year or 140,000km warranty,
whichever comes first, on its IMA battery - the longest warranty period offered in Malaysia.
With a packaging that is both functional and stylish, the three Honda hybrids are beyond bestin-class. Whether you are naturally progressive, naturally intelligent or downright naturally
awesome, there’s a Honda Hybrid for all of you.
The IMA Hybrid System combines the electric
motor and battery with the Intelligent Power Unit
(IPU) to optimize engine and fuel performance.
MAX. Power: 65kW [88PS] + 10kW [14PS]
MAX. Torque: 121Nm [12.3kg-m] + 78Nm [8.0kg-m]
*Applicable to Jazz Hybrid and Insight only.

Naturally Fun
If you desire a compact, eco-friendly car that
is big on fuel and fun, one that will appeal to
your pocket as well as your heart, then the
All-New Honda Jazz Hybrid should suit you
fine. The vehicle architecture of the Jazz is
much celebrated because of its practicality
and agile handling. With the Jazz Hybrid, you
benefit from the same upscale look, safety and
interior comfort, minus the steep fuel bills.
The versatility of the Jazz is legendary and
all that is retained in the hybrid line-up. Not
only is the cabin spacious because of the
unique central layout of the fuel tank but
there is also an amazing boot space of up
to 846 litres! With the dynamic ULTRA
Seats that can be transformed, flipped
and adjusted easily, you get different utility
modes to create extra space.
The Jazz Hybrid is powered up by two
distinct power sources – the 1.3L i-VTEC
engine as the main power source and the
IMA system that provides additional power
as and when it is needed. The Intelligent
Hill-Start Assist function adds great value to
the car by preventing roll back when starting
from a stop on a hill. The Jazz Hybrid have
certainly got what it takes to make drivers
happy – a gorgeous build-up, comfort, safety,
and most importantly, a perfect balance
between fuel economy and performance.
Naturally safe and secure with six SRS airbags.
The gorgeous chrome blue clear grille and
classy chrome blue clear headlights are
available exclusively on the Jazz Hybrid only.

Naturally Exciting
For a tailored driving experience, the 3-Mode
Drive System gives you easy control between
Sport, Normal and ECON.
Now, if you like the sound of engine revs
and you are after something with a sportier
handling, the CR-Z is truly something else.
Launched last November in Premium White
Pearl and now with new colours like the
stunning Milano Red, Storm Silver Metallic
and Crystal Black Pearl, this hybrid feels
right at home on both highways and winding
trunk roads with a sporty responsiveness
that does not compromise on fuel economy.
Great aesthetics aside, one intriguing detail
that will get adrenalines pumping is its
3-Mode Driving System that allows you to
control the responses of the throttle, IMA
and steering at your fingertips. While the
Sport Mode gives you a more powerful
acceleration and tighter steering feedback,
the ECON Mode prioritises fuel efficiency
and helps you keep track of its optimum level
with the Eco Assist function. In the Normal
Mode, performance and emissions strike a
fine balance for most driving conditions.
Currently available with a 6-speed manual
transmission, it is the only hybrid with three
pedals. Its primary source of power is a
1.5L i-VTEC engine that peaks at 6,000rpm
with 114 horsepower and has the capacity
to achieve 124 horsepower when combined
with the electric motor! Projecting
confidence at every angle, the CR-Z is one
hybrid that tops the fun factor and will turn
heads on the road.
The 3 driving modes and other
important driving feedback are
reflected on the Illuminated
Advanced Sports Meter Cluster.

Naturally Versatile
The Insight, this year, just received a fresh
update. The changes are by no means slight
as each has been thoughtfully put together.
The new front and rear bumper, new
grille with blue reflector underneath and
headlights that now come with a tint of blue
each represents Honda’s advanced styling
that makes the new Insight a composed and
refined beauty.
Those who crave mileage will be glad to
know that the new Insight comes with
improved 1.3L i-VTEC + IMA Hybrid system
which delivers more fuel economy as a result
of the enhanced power-train efficiency that
reduces friction and provides better CVT
efficiency. Driving is made so much more
fun and easy with the Eco Assist system that
monitors your driving style and displays the
impact your behavior has on the car’s fuel
economy. At the push of the ECON mode
button, you are potentially increasing fuel
savings and the IMA battery’s recharging
rate.
A more comfortable ride
with improved leg room.
A futuristic cockpit with intuitive instrumental
panel and Multi-information Display.
Beyond an all-improved efficiency on fuel,
the new Insight also promises better
performance as a result of an aerodynamic
design that reduces running resistance and
also the new power saving fuel pump that
trims down power wastage.
Living up to its reputation as an ideal city
ride, the new Insight is added with noise
insulation materials to ensure a more
comfortable and quieter ride. Not only that,
you get a better rear view now with the new
roof lining, smaller wiper motor garnish and
reduced thickness in the tail gate garnish.
So if you are interested, choose from a
range of new hues like Super Platinum Aqua
Metallic, Premium White Pearl, Crystal
Black Pearl or Alabaster Silver Metallic.
The new Insight is naturally sleek with
improved rear design and visibility.

set its sights at Bandar Sungai Long with its
brand new 3S service centre.

holistic sales and after-sales experience
with showroom and workshop under one

will reach out to the Bandar Sungai Long
community and provide consistent and top

“Once we have established our presence,
we will soon be organising dealership
programmes and family activities for our
customers this year,” he reveals.
With the brand new 3S service centre,
General Manager and Director Mr Mo
Kam Weng reveals that the new location
in Bandar Sungai Long offers more growth

opportunities than its previous 2S setup.
Currently, Imavest has introduced new
facilities and services to heighten customer

by for car maintenance, Imavest offers
shuttle services and key drop services
with round-the-clock security. For those
who would like to arrange for service
appointment outside of operating hours,
they can easily do so by calling its hotline.
As technicians tend to their cars, customers

compared to its previous location, Imavest

inspection bays to cater for more repair and
maintenance works, allowing for smoother
work efficiency and speedier service. So far,
Imavest has distributed flyers to announce
their presence in Bandar Sungai Long.
Imavest is exceptionally hopeful that their
presence in Bandar Sungai Long will further
bolster their reputation as a Honda dealer
that is close to the customer’s hearts. “I

Does your child dream of becoming a chef, surgeon, policeman, car designer or pilot
some day? Kidzania has found a way to make your children’s dreams come true!
Say goodbye to boring indoor education and hello, or “kai” (a greeting in KidZania), to a world
of entertaining, indoor fun. With the opening of KidZania at the Curve NX, Mutiara Damansara
in Petaling Jaya, children can now be introduced to a world of dreams where they can choose
an occupation and realise the pleasure of working while having fun. Lots of fun!
Children not only get to experience a real working environment, complete with uniforms, but
the entire 80,000 sq ft mock city is managed by children. KidZania is more than a theme park.
It has buildings, streets, shops, a gas station, bank and even a hospital where children can
work, earn wages in Kidzos (Kidzania’s currency) and shop for services, just like an adult in
the real world.
Mr Yoichiro Ueno, Managing Director &
CEO of Honda Malaysia receiving a key
as official partner of Kidzania from Tan Sri
Amirsham A. Aziz, Chairmain of Themed
Attractions and Resorts Sdn. Bhd.
Honda Malaysia has joined the ranks of several other corporations in partnership with
KidZania, owning the motoring and street area of the make-believe city by sponsoring Hondabranded miniature cars, a Honda dealership and Honda driving school. Honda will be working
closely with KidZania on their educational role-play for children in road safety and simulating
experiences at the Honda driving school. Yes, just like you, your children can be driving a
Honda vehicle or working as a car designer at KidZania, all under professional supervision.
The indoor educational and entertainment theme park aims to foster independence, creativity
and innovation in children aged 4 to 14. Such values resonate closely with Honda’s, especially
in promoting dreams and in representing Honda’s passion in creating a sustainable society for
the next generation.
There are more than 90 jobs and over 100 activities for children to engage in at KidZania.

Dealer’s Story
R
oad to recovery
After rising from a momentous, challenging time, Honda Thailand is
now open for business.
The flood that inundated Ayutthaya last
October left a destructive aftermath in one
third of Thailand’s provinces, destroying
thousands of factories, homes and millions
of acres of crops. Water from the country’s
worst flooding in decades has since receded
and with the streets dry and abuzz again,
the worst now seems to be over.
The flood, however, has taken a heavy toll
on Thailand’s industrial heartland. As the
leading manufacturing hub in the Southeast
Asian region, global supply chains were
severely disrupted. The Honda Automobile
(Thailand) Co., Ltd. (HATC) factory was not
spared from nature’s wild blow either and
was amongst some of the worst hit.
In the wake of the disaster, Honda Group of
companies in Thailand were quick to gear
up rescue efforts by donating 200 units of
boat tail sets with Honda GX160 engine to
the Thai government. On 27th November,
associates from HATC volunteered in
“Restoration Bangkok, Together We Can”
in an effort to distribute relief money, ID
cards, garbage bags, discounted consumer
products in addition to cleaning up schools
and wastewater treatment facilities.
18
With the production plant suspended, HATC
focused all efforts on massive clean-up
activities to restore the plant facilities and
manufacturing equipment as quickly as
possible. HATC also responded decisively to
Honda customers whose cars were affected
by the flood. A team of technical expertise
was promptly set up to assist customers and
to advise them on their flood-ravaged cars.
When the tide poured in, some 1,055
brand new units could not be transported
out of the plant in time. As a measure
of transparency and to provide quality
assurance to customers, Honda completely
destroyed vehicles and parts damaged from
the flood, with the Vehicle Identification
Number (VIN) of those vehicles published
on the website. This allowed consumers
to monitor and ensure that they were not
being re-used.
It is widely reported that amidst hardship
during the flood, the Thai people never
lost their sense of kindness or their smile.
It is a valuable lesson for all of us in the
face of adversity. Coupled with Honda’s
stoic challenging spirit, such a crisis could
become a catalyst for better things.
According to Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn,
Executive Vice President of HATC, the
adversity will drive the company forward,
more strongly than ever. “We are ready
to develop and deliver the highest quality
products to our customers who continue
to put their trust and confidence in us,” he
said. Looks like the grim picture of the flood
will quickly fade as the company fast-tracks
its road to recovery.

3. Taman Tasik Bandaran, Kelana Jaya
Relish your weekends at one of the city’s
favourite fishing spots and watch seasoned
anglers demonstrate their reel prowess by
Kelana Jaya’s public park. To start, you can
obtain a weekend fishing permit for RM5
on Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 5pm, at
Jabatan Landskap, located just a stone’s
throw away. Adjacent to Jalan SS 7/13, opposite Giant
Hypermarket Kelana Jaya. 03-7804 8907 / 08 (Jabatan
Landskap). Weekends and public holidays, 7am – 7pm.
4. Bukit Kiara Bike Trail
A favourite amongst mountain biking
enthusiasts, the Bukit Kiara green lung is
famous for its myriad of trails that offer
boundless technical challenges. The
singletrack trails, which are often wellmaintained by a dedicated group of bikers,
are at least 15 kilometres long, winding
through old rubber estates and secondary
jungles. Novices can rendezvous with
regular groups every weekend morning and
may also hose their bicycles down at bike
wash station nearby. Enter from Taman Lembah Kiara.

5. Artisan Roast
Coffee connoisseurs swear by Artisan
Roast’s brew, delivered fresh by espresso
experts who will insist you savour the
shots immediately. Michael and Amirah,
owners of Artisan Roast outlets, are
an affable couple with a taste for good
coffee, good cakes and good music. The
cheesecake is an absolute must-try. 4, Lorong
Rahim Kajai 14, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur.
03-7733 6397. Monday – Friday (8am – 12am), weekends &
public holidays (9am – 12am). www.artisanroast.com.my
6. Mukha
Mukha, a Middle East - inspired café
opened its doors in September 2011 to the
delight of epicureans and coffee lovers.
Named after a seaport town in Yemen, the
owner brought home the nostalgia of his
days abroad, which is evident in the café’s
eccentric yet tasteful décor. Try the Beef
Bamia or Chicken Kebab and complement
it with Shahi, a pot of Arab tea infused with
mint leaves. 15, Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, Taman Tun Dr
Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur. 03-7732 2248. Tuesday – Thursday
(12pm – 10pm), Friday (2pm – 12am), Saturday (12pm – 12am),
