unique approach in designing

gained the brand a respected
name in the Arab fashion
industry.
Nabila, who’s originally
Moroccan, always had a
passion for design. When she
was a young bride, she used
to receive heavily embellished
Moroccan caftans that didn’t
suit the Gulf region.

Moroccan wear wasn’t popular
in the Gulf region. However
Nabila didn’t venture in the
fashion business until later
when all her children grew up
and she felt she’s ready to take
the next step.
Owing to a background
in fashion and knowledge in
garment construction, Nabila
started as small and introduced
her innovative pieces to her
friends and family who
encouraged her to pursue a
career in fashion.
Thanks to Nabila, Hayaa,
the daughter grew up in a
very creative environment
where pursuing what she
felt passionate about was
encouraged. Being the eldest
daughter she always assisted
her mother in her artistic
projects.
As she grew older she
experimented in various
fields of art and design until
she settled with Architecture.
By the time she reached her
third year in her Architecture
Degree Nabila’s business grew
and Hayaa felt obliged to aid
her mother in managing the
family business. She grew
attached to work and felt that
she can express herself better
in fashion.
With her newfound
passion Hayaa changed her
career path and is currently
studying Fashion Design at
Royal University for Women.
Her time is divided between
her studies and her
role in Dar Naseem

The duo’s attention to

of luxurious fabrics

that time and Andalusia
was a meeting point of all

about our history and heritage
and wanted that to represent

What makes Dar Naseem
AlAndalos unique?
Hayaa: I’d say the fusion that
we came up with is what makes
us unique. We mixed the best
of the Moroccan and Khaleeji
heritage and craftsmanship,
and we continue to experiment
with new materials and

while
being
attentive to the details and
quality. We always make sure
that no matter how rich a piece
is with details it should look

Where do you source your
fabrics and materials?
Nabila: It’s really hard to
find the right materials. We
deal with luxurious fabrics and
we’re care about the quality of

or years, Apple TV has
been like a perpetually
ignored child, eclipsed by its
overachieving siblings, the
iPhone and iPad.
Now, with the fourthgeneration Apple TV, the
set-top box that’s been
deemed merely as a “hobby”
by its parent has finally come
into its own.
It has more powerful
hardware, a significantly
redesigned remote and an
operating system that’s
worthy of an Apple product
in 2015.
And finally, there’s a
genuine app store, which
turns Apple TV into a
legitimate platform for
entertainment and gaming
in your living room.
Apple’s A8 chip powers all
of the set-top box goodness,
and, it’s also running 2GB of
RAM. That means it should
be an even more powerful
device than the iPhone 6 and
6 Plus.
You’ve got a choice
between 32GB of storage
for the $149 model or
64GB for the $199 model.
While its nice to have a
larger storage option, the
32GB model should be fine
for most people, as you’ll
be streaming most of your
content anyway.
The new Siri Remote is
another story entirely. It
simply feels great in your
hand. The remote has a
menu and play/pause
button like before, but now
there’s also a home button,
Siri voice search button,
and volume controls.
There’s now a microphone
built-in for voice searches
on the new remote, along
with an accelerometer and
gyroscope for Wii-like
motion controls.
Say hello to tvOS, an iOS
offshoot that finally brings
apps and a dramatically
redesigned interface to the
Apple TV. It is all about
bright colours and visually
rich apps.
When it comes to
streaming video, the new
Apple TV isn’t much
different than the old one.
Videos seem to start up a bit

manages to
be a pretty
solid gaming machine!
You’d never mistake
it for a dedicated gaming
console, to be sure, but it
offers up some decent casual
gaming experiences, as well
as some slightly more robust
offerings.
The new Apple TV offers
the most refined streaming
interface yet, with a remote
that’s a step ahead of the
competition.
Its voice search actually
works well, and even at this
early stage, there are plenty
of worthwhile apps and

atelco, the Kingdom’s
leading communications
& ICT solutions provider,
has signed a membership
agreement with BTECH
(Bahrain
Technology
Companies Society) to support
their efforts in the ICT sector.
BTECH was established in
2012 to support the Kingdom’s
vision to improve economic
efficiency by developing ICT
companies and helping them
to excel.
Batelco likewise realises
the importance of ICT on
the economy and accordingly
supports a number of
technology
events
and
organisations annually and
also continuously enhances its
business portfolio to ensure
the latest ICT solutions are
available for its customers.
Batelco Bahrain CEO Muna
Al Hashemi, who recently met
BTECH Chairman Ubaydli
Ubaydli, said Batelco was very
pleased to take membership
with BTECH.
“Both organisations are fully
committed to fostering the
growth of ICT organisations in
the Kingdom. The development
and growth of ICT plays
a crucial role in Bahrain’s
economic growth and helps

Ubaydli thanked Al Hashemi
and Batelco for the support
to BTECH saying that he was
delighted to have Batelco on
board as a member of the
society.
“Telecommunications
companies always play a major
role in all modern societies and
Batelco has a tradition of being
a pioneer in the Kingdom’s
communications history and
in promoting community
initiatives,” he said.
Ubaydli continued, “As
one of the principal wealthcreating entities of our society,
Batelco took the responsibility
to be one of the leaders to
play a pivotal role in shaping
the nation’s social and
economic development, and in
contributing to progress and
prosperity in every sphere.”
“We in BTECH believe
Batelco will have a qualitative
positive impact on Bahrain’s
future activities, especially
those related to corporate
social responsibilities. This
creates sustained and ideally
ever-increasing growth for
the BTECH plans as well as
projects, products and services,
all the while ‘serving’ the ICT
market. This will help BTECH
achieve its goals through an
innovative approach,” Ubaydli
added.
T
he gaming industry has certainly come a long way from
the old days of letting us gamers try their games playing
something called a demo, short for demonstration. Today
all the demonstration we get are either gameplay trailers on
YouTube or the modern demo called the Open Beta.
It is rather important to ‘try before you buy’ when it
comes to videogames. I speak from experience that several
times I have bought a game that turns out it was not worth
the cash at all!
10 or so years ago developers had released demos of their
games be it on CDs you get with a magazine or promotion
or in more recent times downloading demos from official
websites.
I remember playing demos on PlayStation 1, downloading
demos on PlayStation 3 from the PSN store back in 2008.
On PC I would go to any website that offered demos of
games, download and play.

A demo is a way of feeling the game, playing it, trying it
out, many have I played that I deemed worthy of my money
and went out and purchased it. Some big companies like
Ubisoft accuse gamers of piracy, well what do you expect
when you release a half-xxxed game and expect everyone
to buy it, and certainly people will resort to torrents/piracy,
who would want to pay for a broken product.
Nowadays demos come in either the form of a nonplayable demo which are videos online showcasing the
game or an ‘open beta’ which is a testing platform for the
game to be played by consumers trying it out, though not
an actual demo, it is basically a scenario in which a person
will participate in, playing the game for the duration of
the open beta determined by the developer, over this
course participants will have reported bugs, glitches and
experiences.
Here is my gripe with open betas, not everyone has super
doper internet, also open betas are restricted to online games
ONLY, what about single player, there is a vast amount of
SP games without proper demos, you will have to pay 30 to
40 dinars and hope that the game is good and worth it.
I suggest that anyone willing to buy a game and is wary
of the money to research the game and read USER reviews
not reviews from magazines only as sometimes they can be
dodgy! Watch videos on YouTube and judge for yourself.

YOUR STAR TODAY
ARIES
20th March - 20th April
It is apparent that something
underhanded and unethical
is occurring at your job
today. Co-workers could be trying
to manipulate situations and take
advantage of proprietary information
to use to their own benefit. Be careful
to steer clear of office politics.
LEO
20th July - 20th Aug
Trust your instincts regarding anyone you meet today.
There are unethical people
about, and one of them is likely to enter your circle today. Entering into legal contracts and partnerships of any
kind - whether for business or pleasure
- is absolutely out of the question today.
SAGITTARIUS
20th Nov - 20th Dec
Don’t take your bank or portfolio statement at face value
today as financial errors are
likely. It could be that someone wants
you to see things according to his view
of things, which may not be based on
the facts. Check and double-check any
important figures that cross your desk.
TAURUS
20th April - 20th May
Do not trust anyone today, not
even those you consider friends.
There are indications of deception
all around you, especially at the workplace. Someone may be keeping something from you, or even manipulating information to their own advantage. Be sure
to check out the facts of any situation.
VIRGO
20th Aug - 20th Sept
If you wake up this morning
and feel glued to the bed, then
perhaps that’s where you should
spend the day today. You have been working hard and long these past few weeks.
This is a day for rest and relaxation. The
office will survive just fine without you.
Call in sick, then disconnect your phone.
CAPRICORN
20th Dec - 20th Jan
You are not likely to feel particularly social today. You would
be happiest at home with a good
book, a good meal, and no communication from the outside world. Alas, such
solitude is not always possible. Make it an
early night tonight and you’ll likely awake
tomorrow with a renewed attitude.
GEMINI
20th May - 20th June
Don’t trust anything related to
money or contracts today. This
is not a good day to enter into
any kind of contract. The atmosphere is
such that there is a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding in the air. You
may think that you understand what you
are signing, but you likely do not.
LIBRA
20th Sep - 20th Oct
Pay attention today. There is
likely some unethical behaviour occurring at work, and it
triggers in you some long-buried anger. You will likely have difficulty keeping your emotions in check. However,
you must. Honest communication is the
only way you can get through this day.
AQUARIUS
20th Jan - 20th Feb
All is not quiet on the home
front today. There is tension
and nervousness in the air, and
you can’t shake the feeling that someone
is lying to you. You are a peacemaker
by nature, so your first inclination is
to try and suppress your suspicions. In
this instance, your instinct is correct.
CANCER
20th June - 20th July
This is not the day for contracts of legal work of any
kind. You may think you understand everything about the document,
but likely you will not. That’s because
the atmosphere is ripe for misinformation and misunderstanding. The legal
documents can wait for another day.
SCORPIO
20th Oct - 20th Nov
Double-check any information that comes your way today.
There is deception and discontent
in the air, which is an unfortunate combination under any circumstances. Before you judge, research. Gossip is likely
to be flying around the office, duck often and run for cover when necessary.
PISCES
20th Feb - 20th Mar
Today you may feel overwhelmed by memories of a
particular incident that was
especially traumatic. No one is more
surprised than you by your reaction.
You felt sure you had addressed this issue and put it all behind you. Apparently, there is still work to be done.

Oil prices will rise: Kuwait
Doha
ven though oil prices
might stay low for long,
yet demand will very likely
increase to support a return to
higher prices; hence, “market
will rebalance itself and prices
will rise,” Kuwait Minister of
State for Cabinet Affairs and
Acting Minister of Electricity

Abdullah Al Mubarak Al Sabah
reassured yesterday.
Oil prices will surge again
yet “the timing is not certain,”
the minister said in his speech

lowest levels since early 2009,
because of an over supplied
market coinciding with signs
of economic slowdown around
the world, most notably in
some major Asian economies.
This current lower oil price
environment, the minister
explained, has been caused
mostly by the significant supply
growth from unconventional,
expensive oil because of
technological advancement.
He added that Volatility in
equity and foreign exchange
markets in Asia have increased
uncertainty about the economic
growth prospects of many
developing nations in Asia,

Invest in ‘white oil’
Changing Concept
Tahir Haneef/DTNN

Manama
ahrain can turn its fortunes
by developing ‘white oil’
aka ‘Brain Power of its people’
according to Ahmed Al Banna,
Chief Executive, Origin Group.
Technology is leapfrogging
and we can’t rely on old
practices. Earlier, a person was
considered illiterate based on
his language, but today anyone
without adequate technology
expertise is considered inept
and illiterate, he said.
The veteran managementexpert was speaking exclusively
to DT News. Ahmed is widely
respected as an HR and
Management
practitioner.
His wide experience covers
Oil, Aviation, Aluminium and
Insurance Industries, both in
Bahrain and abroad.
The Chief Executive said
that for any organisation, 70pc
of its employees will remain
with the company in the next
ten years, but only 30pc of the
current technology will be in
vogue by the end of that period,
causing a strategic mismatch.
Hence the companies have to

‘Low oil price threatens of supply crisis’
Doha
eading crude oil exporter
Saudi Arabia warned
yesterday of a supply crisis after
massive energy investments
were cancelled because of the
sharp decline in oil prices.
“Around $200 billion of
investments in energy have been
cancelled this year,” Saudi vice
minister of oil Prince Abdulaziz
bin Salman told a roundtable
L
meeting for Asian energy
ministers in Doha. He said
energy companies are planning to
cut between 3.0 per cent and 8.0pc
of their investments next year.
“This is the first time since the mid
1980s that the oil and gas industry
will have cuts in two consecutive
years,” Abdulaziz said.
The cuts have been made by
oil-producing nations and as well
as oil companies in consumer
countries, he said.
“The potential impact of cuts
in expenditure on future oil
supplies is both substantial and
long-lasting,” said Abdulaziz,
adding that nearly five million
barrels daily of projects have
already been deferred or
cancelled.
“A prolonged period of low
oil prices is unsustainable as it
will induce large investment cuts
and reduce the resilience of the
oil industry, undermining the
future security of supply and

Ensuring the security of

more complicated because the

GCC Economies
at Crossroads?
G
CC economies’ vital statistics for 2014 show a combined
GDP of USD 1.6 trillion with the largest share of Saudi
Arabia at (USD 760 billion) followed by UAE (USD 246
billion) and Qatar (USD 138 billion). Population of GCC is
50 million of which 52% are natives and 48% are expatriates.
2013 per capita GDP of GCC is USD 30,500. Foreign exchange
reserves are at USD 1.1 trillion. Oil is critical to GCC as it holds
30% of the oil reserves (at 1.7 trillion barrels) and supplies
towards 22% of the global production of oil daily. Significant
portions of government revenues of Qatar (50%), Saudi Arabia
(89%) and Kuwait (95%) are dependent on oil.
Oil price volatility has seen its worst during the last 5 years
since its history in 1870s. During 2010-2015 maximum price has
been $128, minimum price has been $55 and average price has
been $102 according to Brent price sources. During January 2015
to October 2015, prices have fluctuated further between USD 66
and USD 41 per barrel. As per World Bank October estimates,
we are likely to experience “Continued price volatility amidst
expectation of “persistently low” prices for the near term due to
sufficient supply and weak demand.”
Among the GCC countries, Bahrain and Oman are fiscally
less resilient to oil price shocks having a break-even oil price
for balancing their budget at $127 and $103 respectively (IMF
estimates); Kuwait and Qatar are most resilient at price levels of
$49 and $60, followed by UAE and Saudi Arabia at $74 and $87
respectively (IMF estimates). Recommended steps to lessen shortterm impact include fiscal restructuring like introduction of taxes
and gradual withdrawal of subsidies in conjunction with fiscal
discipline with longer term strategies including diversification
across GCC countries.
In public finance literature there are net losses to society
for incidence and burden of taxation which need to be
carefully weighed in the current environment. Current trends
towards potential imposition of taxation may lead to reduced
competitiveness of GCC economies in terms of commercial
attractiveness for businesses and human capital. There are also
inflationary costs of subsidy reduction/elimination which could
create wage – price spiral with no monetary policy independence
in a pegged exchange rate regime throughout the GCC. Different
tax and subsidy regimes across the GCC may also cause confusion
and increase business overhead costs creating further disincentives
in an already weak investment environment.
Long term diversification towards similar industries or services
across the GCC may not lead to desired outcomes. Significant
factors or rather, the lack of those, may pose strong impediments
towards diversification and attractiveness of new initiatives in the
region. These are namely, lack of suitable infrastructure across
GCC for businesses, e.g. road network, railways and transport
system; lack of publicly available records that makes it difficult
for conducting due diligence – most of the information that is
maintained is not available for public use; lack of transparency
in laws and regulations for businesses; lack of uniformity of
laws and regulations for businesses, e.g. although SAGIA (Saudi
Arabian General Investment Authority) was initially liberal,
there has been a shift towards tighter investment rules thereafter;
lack of benchmarking qualifications across GCC for evaluation
and comparison; different currencies across GCC giving rise to
exchange rate risks; lack of uniformity of insurance, property
rights and recognition of professional qualifications across GCC
are just to mention a few of such obstacles.

Russia sees ‘terror’ links
Egypt jet crash
Moscow
oscow acknowledged
yesterday for the first
time a terrorist attack could
have caused the October 31
Russian plane crash in Egypt,
as thousands more tourists were
evacuated from the country.
“The possibility of an act of
terror is of course there as the
reason for what happened,”
Russia’s

an interview with Rossiyskaya

Russia had also refrained
from blaming the crash, which
killed all 224 people on board,
on terrorists, although President
Vladimir Putin on Friday
suspended all flights to Egypt.
The Islamic State group’s
branch in the Sinai claimed
responsibility after the crash
and said it downed the plane
in retaliation for Russian air
strikes in Syria, but it has not
said how.
Israel, which has strong
intelligence links to the
neighbouring Sinai where
the Airbus came down while
en route from Egypt’s resort
of Sharm El Sheikh to Saint
Petersburg, also sided with the
attack theory.
“There is a strong probability
that this is an attack,” Defence
Minister Moshe Yaalon told
Israeli reporters yesterday.
“From what we know and
what we understand, I would
be surprised if it turns out that
it was not an attack.”
Medvedev said about 80,000
Russians were vacationing in
Egypt at the time when Putin
ordered the halt, as Red Sea
resorts are extremely popular
among Russians during winter.
He said at a government
meeting yesterday that “this

‘Britain can survive outside EU’
London
ritain can survive outside
the European Union, Prime
Minister David Cameron
said yesterday as he denied
he was planning to campaign
for Britain to stay in the EU
regardless of the outcome of
reform talks.
“The argument isn’t whether
Britain could survive outside
of Europe. Of course it could,”
Cameron told the annual
conference of the Confederation
of British Industry (CBI), the
country’s main business lobby.
“The argument is how we
could be best off,” he told
the group, many of whose
members are concerned about
the economic consequences of
a possible “Brexit”. Cameron
was interrupted by two
protesters who stood up and
B
David Cameron
chanted “Voice of Brussels!”,
reflecting a suspicion among
eurosceptics that he has already
made up his mind in favour of
Britain staying in the EU.
Cameron is to give more
detail today in a letter to
European Council president
Donald Tusk on Britain’s
reform demands ahead of a
referendum that is due to be
held by 2017 at the latest. “If
I can’t achieve them, I rule
nothing out,” he said, reiterating
a warning to EU leaders.
“If these things can’t be fixed,
then Britain would naturally
ask: do we belong in this
organisation?
“Is this organisation flexible
enough to make sure that
countries inside the eurozone
can grow and succeed and
countries outside the eurozone,
like Britain, can get what they
want?” he said.
Cameron also repeated that
some of Britain’s demands
would require changing EU
treaties -- or at least a binding
promise that treaties will be
changed.
CBI director John Cridland
said ahead of the conference
that most but not all business
were in favour of continued
EU membership.

Indonesia plans crocodile-guarded prison island
Jakarta
ndonesia’s
anti-drugs
agency has proposed
building a prison on an island
guarded by crocodiles to hold
death row drug convicts, an
official said yesterday, an idea
that wouldn’t be out of place
in a James Bond film.
The proposal is the pet
project of anti-drugs chief
Budi Waseso, who plans
to visit various parts of the
archipelago in his search for
fierce reptiles to guard the
jail.
“We will place as many
I
Picture for representational purpose only
crocodiles as we can there.
I will search for the most
ferocious type of crocodile,”
he was quoted as saying by
local news website Tempo.
Waseso said that crocodiles
would be better at preventing
drug traffickers from escaping
prison, as they could not be
bribed -- unlike human guards.
But he is banking on the
convicts lacking Roger
Moore’s crocodile-running
skills showcased in Bond
movie Live and Let Die
when he escapes from an
island using the reptiles as
stepping stones. “You can’t
bribe crocodiles. You can’t
convince them to let inmates
escape.” The plan is still in the
early stages, and neither the
location or potential opening
date of the jail have been
decided.
Indonesia already has
some of the toughest antinarcotics laws in the world,
including death by firing
squad for traffickers, and
sparked international uproar
in April when it put to death
seven foreign drug convicts.
But President Joko Widodo
has insisted that drug dealers
must face death as the
country is fighting a “national
emergency” due to rising
narcotics use.
Anti-drugs
agency
spokesman Slamet Pribadi
confirmed authorities were
mulling the plan to build “a
special prison for death row
convicts”.
He said only traffickers
would be kept in the jail,
to stop them from mixing
with other prisoners and
potentially recruiting them to
drug gangs.

Second cyclone kills 6 on Yemen island
Aden
yclone Megh has killed
six people on war-ravaged
Yemen’s Socotra island, the
second rare tropical storm
to hit the Arabian Peninsula
country in a week, an official
said yesterday.
The latest deaths since the
cyclone made landfall on
Sunday “include two women,
while three other people have
gone missing and dozens
were injured,” said the official
who spoke by telephone from
Socotra.
“Most of the victims died
when their homes collapsed,”
he said, requesting anonymity.
The cyclone caused panic

and prompted appeals for help
for residents on the island,
already badly battered by last
week’s cyclone Chapala.
“The wind, rain, and floods
have receded during the past few
hours but the cyclone has caused
massive destruction to homes,”
said the official.
The Arabian Sea island is
located 350 kilometres (210
miles) off the Yemeni mainland.
Fisheries Minister Fahd
Kavieen, who is from Socotra
himself, urged the United
Nations and neighbouring
Oman on Sunday to “urgently
intervene with emergency teams
to save residents” on the island
“which is now facing a cyclone
stronger than Chapala”. World
Meteorological Organisation
(WMO) spokeswoman Clare
Nullis said Friday tropical
cyclones are extremely rare
over the Arabian Peninsula,
and two back-to-back was
“an absolutely extraordinary
event”.
The UN’s humanitarian
agency OCHA said on Monday
that up to 6,808 families were
displaced by Chapala, which
hit mainland Yemen on
November 3, triggering heavy
flash floods and mudslides.
It warned that Megh is
expected to make landfall
on mainland Yemen on
Wednesday.

“We have closer military
and intelligence cooperation
than any two administrations
in history,” Obama said.
Netanyahu reciprocated by
trying to bury suggestions --
fuelled by his own re-election
campaign comments -- that he
does not support the creation
of a Palestinian state.
For decades the prospect of
a two state solution has been
the bedrock of peace efforts.
Netanyahu had infuriated the
White House by suggesting
that prospect was dead.
“I want to make it clear
that we have not given up our
hope for peace. We’ll never
give up our hope for peace,”
Netanyahu said.
“I remain committed to a

Senior US officials admit
that a peace deal will not

during
Obama’s

wanted Netanyahu to lay the
groundwork for a return to
the negotiating table.

Moscow
Russia yesterday detained
a political performance artist best known for nailing his
scrotum to Red Square after
he torched the doors to the
headquarters of the FSB security service, the successor to
the KGB. Pyotr Pavlensky set
fire to the wooden doors of
the sprawling FSB building in
downtown Moscow around
1:00am (Sunday 2200 GMT),
his lawyer Olga Chavdar said.
Police later opened a criminal investigation into vandalism for political reasons over
the incident, a Moscow police
spokesman said.

signing up to the social

first post to encourage action
against climate change.
Extending efforts to use
modern
communications
to reach younger and more
diverse audiences, the White
House posted a video of Obama
walking around the South Lawn
of the White House.
“I hope you’ll think of this

real conversations about the
most important issues facing
our country,” read a teaser for
the video.
The footage shows Obama
talking about his “backyard”
for the last seven years, which
has been known to host
a fox, a hawk and many of
Washington’s omnipresent
squirrels. “There are a lot of
critters out here,” said Obama.
The political motive of the
post was to urge support for
tackling climate change.
Obama will travel to Paris at
the end of this month, hoping
to get global support for a deal
to limit carbon emissions. But
facing a Republican-controlled
Congress, which largely does
not recognise the threat of
climate change, he needs
domestic support for a deal to
stick.
The White House said it
hopes Facebook would serve as
a two-way street for discussion.
“This page will offer
Americans a new venue to
share their thoughts with the
President on the issues that
they care about the most,”
said Kori Schulman, the
White House deputy director
of digital strategy.

Djokovic vows more to come

ovak Djokovic says he
has reached the peak of
his career by taking a “holistic
approach”, leaving nothing to
chance.
The 28-year-old Serb put the
finishing touches to one of the
greatest years in tennis history
on Sunday when he swept aside
old rival Andy Murray 6-2, 6-4
in the final of the Paris Masters.
The tournament was the
final one of the ATP regular
season and the victory etched
his name in the record books.
The first man to win three
Grand Slam titles and six
Masters Series titles in the

N
Tuesday, November 10, 2015
Series finals and the first man
to record 14 straight finals in
the same year, all en route to a
win-loss record of 78-5 -- the
achievements are phenomenal.
Djokovic, who is now firmly
in the mix with Rod Laver,
Roger Federer and Rafael
Nadal for the label of the
greatest player ever, insists that
on sheer talent alone he would
never have hit such dizzy
heights.
“I think there are a few
reasons why I have managed
to reach my peak at this stage
of my career this year,” he said
after his defeat of Murray.
“I think in terms of physical
and mental ability, I have
reached my peak experience
wise. “Of course I did go
through certain periods that
had more doubts and, you
know, I wasn’t as successful.
It all served as a great lesson,
as a way to improve and to
get better. So this season,
everything got together.
“I’m a married man, and I’m
a father, as well. I think I have a
nice balance and serenity in my
private life that reflects on the
professional life, and vice versa.
“I have this belief that the
holistic approach will definitely
get the best out of yourself.
“I’m still determined to
improve, to get better. Nobody
can be perfect, but, you
know, if you are going for the
perfection, you might reach
excellence.
“That’s the kind of mind set
I have. Try to work every single
day with a purpose.”
It was not always so
controlled and driven for the
Serb, who had to leave his
hometown of Belgrade at an
early age to train in Germany
and who had to overcome both
physical and mental obstacles
when he first entered the pro
scene.
There were even charges that
he was a choker and a bit of a
hypochondriac as he struggled
to deal with the physicality
of Nadal and the legend of
Federer.
But all that changed with
his maiden major win in the
2008 Australia Open and then
Novak Djokovic
his wonder run in 2011 when
he won the Australian and US
Opens as well as Wimbledon.
He now has 10 Grand slam
titles, four shy of Nadal’s haul
and seven away from the alltime record of Federer.
But at 28 and in the peak
of his career, overtaking them
both is a very realistic target.
“I have been through stages
in my life where I struggled a
lot physically, especially in the
beginning of the professional
career.
But,
all
those
experiences in the past have
helped me to get stronger, to
learn from those experiences,
to understand myself, my
body,” he said.
“I try to take nothing for
granted. I try to work on it
all the time, because I know
that that is the only way I’m
managing to stay successful, is
to continue progressing.
“I’m not trying to keep the
status quo, because for me then
that’s a regression.
“I just try to progress,
improve all the time, work on
certain things in my life and
31
my game, and hopefully get
better in the process, which I
feel I’m doing now.”
Progressing for Djokovic
now means winning the ATP
World Tour Finals in London
for the fourth time in two
weeks’ time.
“I look forward to it,
especially because of the fact
that I have had the season that I
have had, and the way that I’m
feeling confidently. Hopefully
I can finish off the season with
another great win,” he said.

Sevilla -3, Real Madrid -2
Sevilla players celebrates their victory
Real lose to Sevilla
Madrid
eal Madrid suffered their
first defeat under Rafael
Benitez as Sevilla produced
a remarkable turnaround to
win 3-2 at the Ramon Sanchez
Pizjuan on Sunday evening.
The visitors took the
lead through a spectacular
overhead-kick from former
Sevilla player Sergio Ramos on
22 minutes, but Ciro Immobile
scored his first goal for the
Andalusians to level the scores
10 minutes before half-time.
Sevilla finished the half well
and came out even stronger
after the break, taking the
lead through Ever Banega and
increasing their advantage
thanks to substitute Fernando
Llorente, with the capital club
unable to find a way back
despite a fine stoppage-time
consolation goal from James
Rodriguez on his return after
two months out.
The result ensured Primera
Division leaders Barcelona will
head into the Clasico at the
Bernabeu in a fortnight’s time
three points ahead of their
arch rivals.
Benitez’s first few months
in charge of the Spanish
giants have been marked
by a solid defence that had
conceded only three goals in
all competitions. In the space
of 90 minutes, Emery’s men
put as many goals past them as
they had leaked in their last 15
R
matches. This was a brilliant
performance from Sevilla,
especially after suffering a 3-1
midweek loss to Manchester
City that endangered their
chances of qualifying for the
latter stages of the Champions
League, and they moved into
the top half of La Liga for the
first time this term.
Immobile was given just
the second start of his Sevilla
career due to the absence
despite playing in the 1-0
win over Paris St Germain
in midweek, and Nacho -the match-winner against
the French champions -deputised at left-back for the
injured Marcelo.
The Spain international
had the first proper attempt
of the game as Madrid began
the game in a confident mood,
striking the post on the volley
after 11 minutes.

The visitors capitalised
of injured top scorer Kevin
Gameiro, while Gareth Bale on their strong start midway
returned for Madrid after through the first half, with
three weeks on the sidelines Ramos conjuring up a bicycle
kick from Isco’s corner and
with a calf injury.
Kiko Casilla played a second powering the ball past Sergio

shoulder -- which he dislocated
six weeks earlier -- and was
forced off just a few minutes
later, replaced by Raphael
Varane. Rico kept the visitors’
advantage to a minimum by
tipping away a hopeful yet
accurate effort from Bale,
and his outfield teammates
soon got their act together
and began to assert their grip
on the game. Immobile got
his first sniff of goal but was
unable to get his shot away
and Madrid goalkeeper Casilla
began to look nervous.
Sevilla
exploited
his
uncertainty from a corner
10 minutes before the break.
Yevhen Konoplyanka sent the
ball towards the back post,
evading the custodian’s grasp
and it landed at the feet of
Immobile, who arrowed in
from close range but a tight
angle. The Italian removed his
shirt in celebrating his maiden
Sevilla goal, earning himself a
booking.
The striker should have
put his side in front just five
minutes later but side-footed
wide of the near post.
However, Immobile did
play a part in the move which
lead to Sevilla finally taking
the lead on the hour mark,
playing a one-two with the
lively Konoplyanka in the area,
allowing the Ukrainian to pull
the ball back for Banega to
smash home. (ESPN)
