aviation sector in the Kingdom.
The Cabinet meeting,
chaired by Prime Minister
HRH Prince Khalifa bin
Salman Al Khalifa, in the
presence of Crown Prince,
Deputy Supreme Commander
and First Deputy Prime
Minister HRH Prince Salman
bin Hamad Al Khalifa held a
discussion on reviewing civil
aviation fees yesterday.
Speaking to media persons,
Al Hammadi said, “The move
will enable the civil aviation
sector to compete with other
civil aviation sectors of the
region.”
Hinting that the fees of
some services might come
down, the minister also
informed that the fees of some
other services might go up.
“The step has been
taken in order to attract
foreign investment into the
Kingdom.”
Bahrain’s civil aviation
sector is regulated by Civil
Aviation Affairs (CAA),
which comes under the
Ministry of Transportation
and Telecommunication.
The CAA regulates and
issues air transportation and
navigation, airworthiness and
other technical directives that
apply to all aircraft flying into
or out of Bahrain.
The CAA also serves as the
governing body for setting
laws and regulations related
to aviation issues.
It is also responsible for
ensuring that all stakeholders
comply with all regulations
and meet obligations.

The Ministerial Committee
for
Urbanisation
and
Infrastructure had been
instructed
to
conduct
necessary
studies
in
collaboration
with
the
relevant sides.
The same committee had
also been told to follow-up

and the provision of more
services and facilities for the
Souk traders and shoppers.
The Prime Minister was
informed about the measures
taken so far regarding the
establishment of a new central
market.
He issued directives to
expedite its implementation
and requested the Ministerial
Committee to study ways to
remove all obstacles delaying
the project.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet
also approved a proposal
from the National Oil and
Gas Authority (NOGA)
regarding the stimulation of
production at the Bahrain
field with its partners in a
manner that is consistent with
the size of the development
achieved in the investment
in the oil infrastructure. The
proposal was included in a
memorandum
presented
by the Energy Minister Dr.
Abdulhussain Mirza.
The Cabinet discussed four
proposals submitted by the
Council of Representatives.
They
include
the
implementation of a housing
project in the Green Belt area,
east of the current project
in Block 241 in Arad, and
the allocation of a land lot to
establish a complex for social
services in the Muharraq’s
eighth constituency. Proposals
also include the construction
of an intermediate girls’
school in Budaiya, and the
allocation of land to build an
auditorium for the citizens of
the Southern Governorate’s
fifth constituency.

review by intelligence agencies, to see whether they contain classified material that

2014, and the department
now has a team reviewing the correspondence to
determine what should be

be redacted under laws that
allow the government to

Abbasi cited fatigue due
to long driving as one of the
factors that lead to accidents.
“They come from long
distances driving their vehicle.
They are in a hurry when
they arrive here, as they want
to reach homes as early as
possible. This haste also ends
in tragedy,” he added.

house last Wednesday.

What did motivate you to
become a DJ? Where did you
hone your skills?
I love music and I have been
collecting music albums since
1999. When my friends saw
my collection, they encouraged
me to become a DJ. Their
inspiration took to me start
my ever first DJ at Funland
Icesktaing Centre, Bahrain.
I learned the ropes from
there. Later, my skills in
advanced level were moulded
by DJ Ruby Fays from France
and DJ Madjam and DJ Crow
from Lebanon.

is the style that I adopt in
spinning, and I am sure that

How would you define your
style? What do you do to egg
on a passive crowd to shake
a leg?
I define my style as ‘fusion
style’. If I want to make the
crowd active, I will play a floor
filler track and hype them up

music collection up-todate? How do you select
the tracks for a particular
event?
I do my own remixes
and bootlegs plus. I buy
exclusive tracks to be
unique in my music
sets. To be up-to-date,
I have to do a lot of
hard work. I have to
sit in my studio so
often to develop my
own track set.

listening to now? Who are
your favourite musicians?
Now I mostly listen to hiphop, the new album for
Dr Dre, and my favourite
artistes are Dr. Dre, DJ
Chuckie, DH Jazzy Jeff and
DJ Outlaw.
The coolest place where
you worked and what style of
music are you playing?
The coolest place I have
ever worked was Club
Cielo, but now it’s
closed. I feel sad for
that. I play every
kind of music. But
what make me
happy are EDM,
Oldskool
and
Hip-hop.
The software and
hardware you can’t
live without… Are
there too many choices
in the music technology
market these days?
For production work,
I use the Logic software,
and for DJing, I use Serato
Scratch Live. My hardware
is Rane Serato.

had a knife, according to his
statement.
One of the three suspects
was eventually arrested after
police saw a child roaming
around Hamad Town on the

He was taken to police
station and he revealed that
the bike was brought home
by his brother (the 16-yearold accused). The latter was

“I was with my friends
driving around Bahrain. We
saw the motorcycle and one
of them encouraged me to rob
it,” the accused said during
questioning.

Hoax bomb: Witnesses
to be heard on Oct 15

in Askar. He was immediately taken to a hospital. The driver of the other
vehicle, however, was not hurt in the accident.

DT News-What has been the most
challenging aspect of your position
as the CEO of Novo Cinemas?
Debbie- I always try to look at
challenges as opportunities, and I
always encourage my team to do the

great things can come out of changing
your perspective, and adopting a
more positive outlook – you become
far more proactive as a result. I
guess my biggest challenge was
changing industries from the MICE
(Meetings, Incentives, Conventions
and Exhibitions) industry to
Entertainment, but I immediately
saw the opportunity: that there are
major synergies between the two, and
at the end of the day it’s all about
ensuring you give your customer the
best experience possible. I’m a people
person, passionate about my team
and passionate about delivering for
our customers. I’m committed to
going above and beyond expectations,
and making sure we deliver great
customer service, experience and
satisfaction. That’s what drives me
every day.
DT News-What has been the most
rewarding?
Debbie-There have been so many
rewarding experiences. First would be
our rebranding exercise from Grand
Cinemas to Novo Cinemas – the
entire team worked on this project
with the Branding Agency, and we
all learned so much along the way.
It was tremendously hard work but
extremely rewarding. We wanted to
create a funky, hip brand that was
more in touch with our customers
and their needs, and as a team we
achieved it.
It’s also very rewarding to see
new locations developed, growing
a new project from the concept to
inception. I’m also very proud of
our accomplishment earlier this
year in organising Middle East’s first
celebrity attended fan premiere. With
our sister company, movie distributor
Gulf Film, we hosted Liam Neeson for
the Dubai premiere of his blockbuster
movie, Taken 3. Over 2,500 fans
attended the event; it was a fantastic
night and Liam was a true star.
DT News-Are the movies played
in IMAX and IMAX 3D, specifically
created to be viewed in this format?
Is it hard to gain the rights to feature
such movies and how do you decide
on what movies will be screened by
Novo Cinemas.
Debbie Stanford-Kristiansen
Debbie- There is absolutely no
question about it - movies played
on the IMAX screen were made for
the IMAX screen. They haven’t just
been enlarged to fit the big screen;
they’ve been completely transformed.
IMAX works closely with filmmakers
by providing them with IMAX’s
extremely high-resolution cameras or
in a process called digital re-mastering,
which enhances hundreds of details in
every frame. Through our partnership
and long-standing relationship with
IMAX Corp, we receive an evergrowing line-up of movies - usually
the year’s biggest movies - to screen
for our IMAX audience.
DT News- Has the technology
advancement played a positive role
in making cinematic experience
better and bigger?
Debbie -When we set out to ensure
that we have the latest movie-viewing
technology, our prime objective is to
make the experience more and more
immersive. This means allowing
viewers to completely lose themselves
in the experience - to be transported
to different places, and to have no
distraction from that emotional
journey. Whether it’s advancements
in image projection technology,
or audio engineering, or even seat
comfort, there will always be a way
to improve the experience. Although
there have always been great movies,
from the time of silent pictures and
black and white features, but of course
we have to move with the times, and
provide the latest and best technology.
DT News-Does it impose any
challenges as well?
Debbie- There will always be
advancements in technology, but the
trick is to know when to invest. Is the
latest technology a fad, or something
that’s here to stay? Is there going to be
another advancement in technology
five minutes after you invest in the
latest one? Probably. But you can’t
ever fall behind.
DT News- When it comes to
enjoying movies on the big screen,
do you have your specific type that
you like to see? Are there any new
releases or upcoming titles that you
are looking forward to watching at
IMAX?
Debbie- I love action and
adventure, romance and comedy almost all genres, really, except for
horror. I’m really looking forward
to the new James Bond movie,
SPECTRE, which will also be showing
in IMAX this November. I can’t wait
to see it.

First Person shooter

antastic Four has always been my least favorite franchise
of the Marvel hero universe. The 2005 release of the
same concept, didn’t appeal to me, however I still went
ahead to watch this rebooted version, expecting that maybe
the advanced technological techniques would come into full
visualization and change my mind about the franchise.
Boy was I wrong! Not only was the movie’s monotonous
direction and presentation horridly conducted, the special
effects made it look like a feature from the nineties (make
it eighties or even earlier than that). The film is a fantastic
bore, fantastic drag and a fantastic yawn. Even when it starts
good, looking a tad promising, it quickly plummets down
albeit ending horribly.
The film:
The actors I had high hopes for were Miles Teller and
Toby Kebbell. Since watching Toby in RocknRolla (2008)
I loved his acting abilities. Same goes for Miles Teller
after watching Whiplash (2014). I thought Toby would be
another Heath Ledgers Joker in the making, sadly no.
I felt that the actors portrayed no emotion, nothing really,
they were boring to watch as if they were forced to act at
gunpoint; not a glimpse of passion could be seen anywhere.
I especially felt that Kate Mara had no business in this film,
a miscast really. I’d say that Jessica Alba from the
previous films had performed better. Michael
B. Jordan was here and there, nothing special.
To be frank I slept somewhat between halfway
and minutes before the climax of the film- that
just comes to show how boring this flick was.
But when the super heroes fail miserably,
we look at the nemesis-the second
biggest aspect in a superhero
movie besides the hero is the
villain. Many villains that I
was thrilled to watch, case
in point were the Joker
from The Dark Knight
(2008) played by the
legendary
Heath
Ledger,
Thanos
from Guardians of
the Galaxy (2014)
played by the
wonderful Josh
Brolin and a few others, who can easily carry the movie on
their shoulders. I was expecting since Toby Kebbell was
playing Doctor Doom, his acting would be on par with these
great villains or at least somewhere near. Unfortunately that
was nowhere to be seen, Doc Doom was Doc Lame.The
villain is what makes the film in this particular genre along
of course with the hero, although sometimes I am more
interested in watching the villain. I was deeply saddened
by this underwhelming portrayal of what I assumed would
have been the only saving grace of this movie.
The CGI:
If it is one thing that I have come to despise in the film
is the computer generated imagery aka CGI. Don’t get me
wrong CGI is awesome when done right and used proper,
when overused and bland it creates a movie like Fantastic
4 which really isn’t at all fantastic. The effects were
weak and flavorless. For a budget of $200M (including
marketing) I expected much eye candy. Take a look at
other films released in the same timeline, Terminator:
Genisys and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, the
effects were superb especially in Terminator, I was lost
for words when I saw the recreation of scenes from
Terminator 1 and 2 put in Genisys. The effects here were
as if done by students, scratch that students would have
done better. I for one was expecting a lot more from one
of my favorite directors ‘Josh Trank’ as I am an avid fan
of his earlier film Chronicle (2008), the effects are much
better in comparison to Fantastic.
Also the climactic battle between the hero and villain
was unconvincing; Doom was laughable as a supervillain.
He would have made other villains like Thanos, Joker,
and Green Goblin laugh at this utter
weak performance combined with
cheap CGI. All in all, a major
disaster.
Conclusion: Do not
waste your time unless
you want to sleep in the
theatre, the film was not
short of anything but a
horrid experience. Leave
it to Marvel to make the
films not Fox or Sony
because they just
ruin it.
Verdict: 2/10
elcome to another week of gaming! This week I’ll talk about First
Person Shooters, more commonly known by the abbreviation FPS.
Video gaming was mostly kept to arcades and then slowly a small
spark was lit when companies started manufacturing home consoles and
computers after which that spark exploded into a big bang of personal
computers and consoles in almost every home! Gaming spread like wildfire
pretty much like the Television during the 1950s in the United States. In the
same way the television boomed some 60~70 years back, so did videogames.
Historically it started with the game Pong (1972) but I will highlight the
game DOOM (1993).
DOOM (1993)
Doom essentially epitomized the
genre of first person shooters. The
other day I was in Euphoria (DVD store
in Seef Mall) and I was digging through
their bargain bin and found Outlaws
(1997).
It was such a bargain and a must
have for my library of games, a great
addition to the collection of videogames
I proudly own.
Outlaws is basically Doom in the
Wild West, instead of fighting monsters
and aliens you’re fighting outlaws and
bandits also shooting chickens! These
games started evolving though with the My purchase from Euphoria,
passing of the years, fps games included Outlaws (1997)
stories both in-depth character driven
such as Half Life (1998) and superficial
campaign run and gun style fps like Call of Duty. And let’s not forget a major
driving factor in fps games-multiplayer!
In all honesty I believe if you ask any gamer out there about FPS games they’d
most certainly cite Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike was and is a revolutionary
title in the world of
videogames. One thing
worth noting is that the FPS
genre is not all about ‘run
and gun’ type style game
there are a plethora of more
serious nature such as the
Elder Scrolls franchise, Half
Life series and Thief as
examples.

Citigroup to pay $180m as settlement

S securities regulators
ordered two Citigroup
affiliates yesterday to pay
$180 million to settle charges
that they defrauded investors
by falsely claiming a pair of
hedge funds were low-risk.
Citigroup collected nearly
$3 billion from 4,000 investors
by claiming the ASTA/MAT
fund and the Falcon fund were
low-risk investments akin
to investing in government
bonds, said the US Securities
and Exchange Commission.
In 2008, both funds
collapsed during the financial
crisis.
“The funds were not
bond substitutes, and an

investment in the funds
carried significantly greater
risk than a bond investment,”
the SEC said.
Both funds used “significant
amounts of leverage” and
were classified in an internal
Citigroup rating system as
having “significant risk to
principal.”
“That rating, however, was
not shared with the majority
of investors and financial
advisors,” the SEC said.
The
SEC
criticized
Citigroup
for
poorly
overseeing
fund
management
staff
to
ensure
communications
were “accurate and not
misleading.”
The order also faulted fund
employees for dishonest
statements about the funds’
financial condition when
they came under strain in
2007.
“Advisers
at
these
Citigroup affiliates were
supposed to be looking out
for investors’ best interests,
but falsely assured them
they were making safe
investments even when the
funds were on the brink
of disaster,” said Andrew
Ceresney, director for the
SEC’s enforcement division.
Citigroup said through
a spokesman that the bank
is “pleased to have resolved
this matter.”

Over the past few seasons, Tottenham
have gone through their fair share of central
midfielders – yet still the 23-year-old Carroll
has scarcely featured. The creative Carroll has
been with Spurs since he was a schoolboy, but has
played only 23 times for the Lilywhites and turned
out for four different clubs on loan since the 2010/11
campaign (including Leyton Orient, Derby and QPR).
After his spell at Swansea last time out (where still
first-team football wasn’t a given), Carroll will be
hoping to push his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s
thoughts. Benjamin Stambouli’s departure will give
him hope, but he still has Ryan Mason, Mousa
Dembele, Nabil Bentaleb and now Dele Alli to
displace – not to mention the two weeks
remaining in the transfer window. All
signs point towards another
season of angst.

Under Jurgen Klopp, 23-year-old German winger
Hofmann only featured in two Bundesliga games last
season, leading to a loan deal with Mainz which was
ruined by a knee injury. It’s expected that he will play
more with Thomas Tuchel in charge, which he has done
so far with three appearances in cup competitions. But
with Kevin Kampl, Marco Reus, Jakub Blaszczykowski
and Kevin Grosskreutz also vying for contention
out wide, it seems like now or never for the
23-year-old to make his mark at the
Westfalenstadion.
Born and bred in Barcelona, Bartra has been
part of the Blaugrana setup since he was 11
years old. From Carles Puyol and Gabriel
Milito, to Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano
– the centre-back has seen them all, and
now aged 24 is still waiting for a proper run
in the club’s starting XI. His appearance
numbers actually dropped by six games
last season, and even with Barça’s
transfer embargo his minutes don’t
look like improving this time
either. When midfielders are
being picked in front of you,
at some point you need to
think about your future.

In his second full season with Real Madrid after
returning from Bayer Leverkusen, Spanish right-back
Carvajal cemented his place in the first team, featuring
in 30 league games for Los Blancos last term and five in
the Champions League. The 23-year-old has impressed
with his ability to play at both ends of the pitch, proving
himself a capable tackler and willing runner in attack.
But despite signing a new deal to 2020, Carvajal will
now compete with Brazilian right-back Danilo – a
€31.5 million summer arrival from Porto – for
a place in Rafa Benitez’s team. It’s hard to
believe that the 24-year-old has left
Portugal for a backup role.

Two loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem saw Blues
youngster Traore score 17 goals for the Dutch
club. This season he’s been cleared to play for
Chelsea – handed the No.14 shirt at Stamford
Bridge – but it’s hard to see where the Burkina
Faso international will actually fit in. Jose
Mourinho can call on PFA Player of the
Year Eden Hazard, Willian, Jose Cuadrado
and even Victor Moses in the forward
roles, while highly rated new Brazilian
signing Kenedy has now secured a
work permit to play. Even without
his fellow youngster to compete
with, there seems an awful lot of
competition for the exciting
19-year-old.
