It is the latest pact of its kind

The deal with Hungary

Qadan said that the situation
in Palestine escalated after
Israel began troubles at Al

According to her, Israel

“There are also social
restrictions on Palestinians.
There are blue card holders
as well as green card holders.
Green card holders live in West
Bank or Gaza and the blue card
holders live in the Palestinian
land occupied by Israel,” she
revealed.
“The blue card holders can’t
enter into marital relations
with green card holders. The
social condition in Palestine
is getting complicated,” said
Qadan, who lives in Ramallah.
“Israeli army had always been
violent and it continuously
justified its violence against
Palestine. They claim that
we are terrorists. But they
curbed our right to live in the
Palestinian land,” she alleged.
Commenting on the use of
knives against Israelis, she said
that the Palestinians had been
using them because they didn’t
have any other weapons to
defend themselves. “Recently
Israelis killed a whole family in
an airstrike. But we don’t have
any modern weapons to fight
Israeli hostility. So we have to
resort to weapons like knives
or swords to protect ourselves,”
she explained.
Qadan said peace would
prevail in Palestine if Israel
fulfilled the demands of
Palestinians. “Let them give
Palestinians their rights and
allow the Palestinian refugees
to come back to their land,”
she added.

that will determine the future digital

The vast majority of Middle East

“Middle

Omar Boulos, Regional Managing

“The pace of innovation and
technology adoption that transforms
companies and governments across
the Middle East is only going to
increase.”
“Pioneering organisations will
focus on creating and becoming part
of the broader digital ecosystems
that now extend to customers,
business partners, employees and
other industries,” he added.

he Ministry of Works
has invited bids for
the B3 Storm Water

Southern

The announcement was
made by Asma Murad, the
Acting Sanitary Engineering

Director at the Ministry
of Works, Municipalities
Affairs and Urban Planning.
Murad explained that
the project packs extend
for 12km and comprise of

packs cover blocks 729 in

The project tender is one
of the many efforts extended
by the Ministry to improve
infrastructure in all the
Kingdom’s Governorates.
Also, the Ministry seeks to
find alternative solutions
for storm water drainage in
closed areas; such as water
injection into the ground.
The Ministry previously
implemented 3 storm water
drainage projects in over 100
locations in Bahrain, namely
pack A2, B2 and C2. The
projects were implemented
in collaboration with
municipal councils.
“The (former) Central
Governorate was the most
affected area during the
rainy seasons; due to its
sandy soil and the low soil
permeability percentage,”
said Murad.
Murad also explained
that the storm water
drainage network presently
covers a part of Bahrain;
particularly coastal areas
that have outlets to the sea,
main roads and a number
of new urban areas that
have been connected to the
network. The Ministry has
prepared complete designs
for the project based on
the data collected from the
Meteorology Directorate;
for the last 50 years, in
addition to measuring the
annual rain rates, which
do not exceed 10-15mlm.

Criminal Court heard. The
Bahraini man deceived his
alleged victims between
the year 2009 and 2011,
making a total amount
that exceeded BD300,000,
according to court reports.
He allegedly told them that
he was an expert in properties
and he would generate huge
profits for them in return
of the money they handed
him.
The defendant has two
brothers who reportedly aided
his alleged crime, with one of
them allowed the 40-year-old
to use his company’s account,
while the other one was tasked
to deposit the money in the
bank.
By doing this, the defendant
managed to launder the money,
and court files showed that the
defendant was seen possessing
valuable items that weren’t in
line with his income.
He reportedly bought a
luxury car for his wife, and the
latter said that the amount of
the vehicle was settled in cash.
The three are being tried
before the High Criminal
Court, but only the 40-yearold defendant is in police
custody.
Their trial was adjourned
until November 2 to hear
prosecution witnesses.
More libraries needed,

hura Council member, Dr.
Mansoor Sarhan said many
cities in the Kingdom don’t
have a public library.
“Public libraries play an
important role in providing
knowledge to citizens,” he said.
“Newer cities like Hamad
Town don’t have any libraries,”
he said, adding Isa Town has a
library built in the 1960s.
Dr. Sarhan said public
libraries play an important
role to provide knowledge to
citizens, as they are like open
universities. He said, “It is
S
very important to build a
public library in these cities.
Many people and scholars in
these areas can benefit from
this. It will help them to be
productive as they are one of
the most important cultural

He added, “A well organised

these cities.”
He said, “Reading habits

He said Isa Cultural Centre
is one of the most appreciated

country, which has thousands
of books by Bahrainis.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sarhan
also praised the efforts of
the Housing Ministry in
providing housing units for

He said that back then the
housing projects were built
in a form of villages, but now
they are built in the form of
large cities and one of the best
examples is the Northern city.

hinese company Xiaomi has
launched a small Segway device,
the Ninebot mini, for a mere $315 on
the same day it revealed a $790, 60-inch
4K TV. If you’ll recall, Xiaomi is a
major investor in Ninebot, the Chinabased company that recently purchased
Segway.
This is the first device the companies
have launched since the acquisition,
and while the self-balancing scooter
looks a bit like the original, it costs less
than a twentieth the price.
The performance is nothing to
sneeze at, though -- it can move at up
to 16km/h (10 mph), tackle 15 degree
hills and run up to 22 km on a single
charge. It’s portable at 12.8 kilograms
(28 pounds) and “fits easily in the trunk
of your car,” according to Xiaomi.
A companion smartphone app
allows users to remotely control and
lock the Ninebot mini, and delivers
smartphone alerts if the scooter
moves while in lock mode.
Sure, Xiaomi’s marketing the
Ninebot mini as a “cool youth toy,”
according to the rough translation
-- but it looks like it could get you
around nicely, too. You’ll have to
put your checkbook away for now,
though. The self-balancing device is
coming to China on November 3, but
there’s no word on Xiaomi’s plan for
a wider launch. That said, Ninebot
has updated its French website with
an offer to be “informed of the
availability.”

It’s also available from the

United States.
There are high hopes for

camera, and a Nexus

It compares favourably

in the UK have already got their
hands on the device thanks to early
shipments.

Hudway Glass is a basic device
that will take full advantage of
your smartphone to give you a
flexible HUD on a very modest
budget.
When it comes to safe
driving, HUD technology must
walk a fine line to be useful
rather than harmful. Drivers
often avert their eyes to check
their phones or look at the
speedometer, so projecting that
information on the windshield
can
prevent
dangerous
distractions.
On the other hand, studies
have suggested that displaying
too much data on a HUD
can reduce driver safety. The
simplicity of the Hudway Glass
(particularly when compared
to some of its feature-rich
alternatives) could help it keep
on the right side of that safety
line. This device is a simple
smartphone cradle that sticks
on top of your dashboard
while a transparent plastic lens
reflects and optically enhances
key pieces of data displayed
by your phone. Users can pick
from a number of apps that
use their phone’s GPS and
accelerometer to provide data
like driving speed, location,
and turn-by-turn directions. In
keeping with the safety theme,
Hudway’s own app for
Android and iOS doesn’t
visually
overwhelm
users, but instead
focuses on displaying
only a few bits of data
at a time, making
them large, easily
readable,
and
(hopefully) not
too distracting.
The “glass”
at the core of
the device is
a sturdy and
lightweight plastic
lens shaped to enlarge
a smartphone’s image by 20
per cent, while minimizing
aberrations that would distort
the view of the road. A coating
on the lens also cancels the
double image effect you would
experience if you were to
simply stick your phone on
top of the dashboard and let
the windshield take care of the
reflection.
As the device is not powered,
there are some limits to the
brightness, contrast and general
quality of the reflected image.
In particular, the creators warn
that some small details might
become illegible when drivers
are directly facing the sun.

YOUR STAR TODAY
ARIES
20th March - 20th April
Check out advancing your
career or education today. The
energy that’s happening can really
favour expansion and growth. When is the
last time you learned a new skill? It doesn’t
have to be work-related . If flower arranging
or taking a parenting course are things
that would appeal more to you, go for it.
LEO
20th July - 20th Aug
Step out of your usual role. Every now and then, doing this can
bring knowledge and expand your
horizons. The day’s planetary aspects favour such growth, and your willingness
to walk to a different beat can give you
far more than you imagine. Try something you’ve never considered before.
SAGITTARIUS
20th Nov - 20th Dec
Follow your instincts before anything else. While your ears can
hear words, your instincts and intuition can hear what’s between the lines
and provide you with a much bigger picture than what’s being presented. Even if
everything sounds right, but feels wrong,
you’d do better to trust your feelings.
TAURUS
20th April - 20th May
Do you recognize your intuition as a valuable asset? Some
people do and some don’t - which
group do you fit into? As an earth sign, it
can be easy to trust more in concrete, factual reality than in things you can’t point
a finger at - yet your intuition can serve
you more than you sometimes realize.
VIRGO
20th Aug - 20th Sept
Are you satisfied with your current career? If not, start by sitting

make things happen today.
Have trust in your ability to discover. Remember, as a Gemini, you’re
known for your sharp thinking and creative ability. Combining the two can make
an unbeatable tool for finding solutions
to most anything. Have a good day!
LIBRA
20th Sep - 20th Oct
Don’t fear any changes that
are ahead. Even if you think
you don’t adjust too well, you
have far more adaptability than you realize. Without change, life would become stagnant and lifeless. It wouldn’t
be long before you became dissatisfied
and bored with the same old thing.
AQUARIUS
20th Jan - 20th Feb
Try to see nightmares as safe
ways to understand your feelings. Understand what’s being expressed. What’s frightening you? Where
do you feel most insecure? Consider these
questions and probe for answers. Fear, pain,
and anxiety are the most common ingredients of a real cold-sweat nightmare.
CANCER
20th June - 20th July
Find some new ways to expand
your horizons. The Web has an
infinite number of resources and
information for you to explore. Not only
this, there are your community and local colleges that offer various courses
for you to choose from. Think about
what you would enjoy learning about.
SCORPIO
20th Oct - 20th Nov
Make your dreams a valuable
tool for insight. Whether you
think dreams are mystical insights,
or the result of random firings of your brain’s
release of thought and emotion, there is
much to be gained. Recurring dreams hold
much significance, as they can point to
something that needs to be taken care of.

BBK reports 8pc increase
in net profit to BD40.3m
Driven by fees and commission income
DT News Network
Manama
he Board of Directors of
BBK yesterday approved
the financial results for the nine
months ended September 30,
2015, announcing a registered
net profit of BD40.3 million,
an increase of 8 per cent over
similar period of last year of
BD 37.3m; with earnings of 38
fils per share (2014: 35 fils per
share).
Chairman of the Board of
Directors Murad Ali Murad
said, “Our strong and stable
financial footing has enabled
us to stay committed to our
customers while investing in
targeted growth opportunities,
delivering
sustainable
growth, managing risk, and
improving long-term financial
performance and returns for
our shareholders.”
The growth in net profits
was mainly driven by a
notable growth in fees and
commission
income
by
10.8pc to reach BD23.2m and
T
a 9.2pc growth in FX and
investment income to reach
BD13.6m, while Net interest
income stood at BD52.7m.
Given the ongoing bank-wide
effective cost management,
operating expenses increased
reasonably by 2.7pc to amount
to BD36.5m when compared
to the corresponding period of
last year, resulting in improved
cost to income ratio from
41.3pc in September 2014 to
40.8pc as of September 30,
2015.
The bank continued to
follow a prudent approach
in assessing and providing
provisions for certain impaired
asset classes. As of end of
third quarter of 2015, the bank
has increased its provisions
reserve including voluntarily
general provisions by BD14.3m
(September 2014: BD13.1m),
to account for expected and
unexpected deterioration in its
assets quality portfolio.
The turbulence in the global
stock markets caused by the
Murad Ali Murad
Chinese market crash and its
corresponding impact on the
large-scale volatility in stock
prices, resulted in reducing the
investment revaluation reserve
of most financial institutions.
Accordingly, BBK reported a
negative BD28.1m revaluation
reserve as of September 30,
2015 compared to reporting
positive revaluation reserve of
BD15.7m in similar period last
Abdulkarim Bucheery
year. As a consequence, the
bank’s comprehensive income
stood at BD8.6m, compared to
BD51.8m reported for the same
period of last year.
The bank also reported a
growth in net profit of 7.5pc to
reach BD10.9m compared to
BD10.2m reported for the same
period of last year. Net interest
income amounted to BD17.7m
(2014: BD17.8m), while other
income, including fees and
commission, FX and investment
income has recorded a positive
growth of 13.2pc compared to
the same period of last year to
reach BD11.9m. Provision
requirements for the third
quarter of 2015 amounted to
BD8.2m, compared to BD5.9m
reported in similar quarter last
year.
Chief Executive Abdulkarim
Bucheery said, “Our successful
strategic plan continues to
drive and flourish BBK’s
sustainable growth and yields
positive results year after year.”
He added, “This year marks
a new milestone in BBK’s
journey as we will begin our
next strategic plan in 2016. We
are confident by the end of
our next three years strategic
plan, BBK will be even more
superior to offer best quality
to customers and more valuecreating for shareholders.”
BBK’s
balance
sheet
witnessed a growth of 11.6pc
to reach BD3,715m as of end
of September 2015, compared
to BD3,331m reported in the
corresponding period last year.
As one of the key levers
to fuel balance sheet growth
and improve returns, nontrading investments securities
increased by 6.0pc to amount
to BD811m (2014: BD765m).
Net loans and advances
amounted to BD1,795m as of
end of the third quarter of 2015
(September 2014: BD1,822),
while customer deposits leaped
to reach BD2,566m as of
September 30, 2015, a 14.0pc
increase when compared to
BD2,250m reported in similar
period of last year.
BBK liquidity and funding
position continues to be
strong with liquid assets to
total assets standing at 26.7pc
(September 2014: 18.3pc),
loan to total deposit ratio at
63.3pc (September 2014:
70.7pc), and capital adequacy
ratio remained at comfortable
levels well above the regulatory
minimum of 12.5pc.

Yemen ready for UN talks
Ending Conflict
Riyadh
he Yemeni government has agreed
to participate in UN-sponsored
talks with rebels aimed at ending the
country’s conflict, spokesman Rajeh
Badi said yesterday.
Saudi Arabia, which has since
March led an Arab coalition air
campaign against Shia Huthi rebels
in support of the government of
President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi,
welcomed Yemen’s decision.
The United Nations is yet to
announce the date and location for
the proposed talks, but Badi said that
the likely venue was Geneva.
“Yes, we have agreed to take part” in
the talks, the government spokesman
said.
He confirmed over the weekend
that UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh
Ahmed had delivered an invitation

to fresh talks with Iran-backed Huthi
rebels and their ally, former president
Ali Abdullah Saleh.
However, Badi declined to comment
on whether Hadi’s government had
been given any guarantees over
its demand for the withdrawal of
rebels from territories seized across
Yemen.
UN Security Council Resolution
2216 calls for the withdrawal of rebel
forces from captured territories and
for them to lay down their arms.
The Saudi foreign ministry
“hailed” Hadi’s “readiness to resume
political consultations”, according
to a statement carried by SPA state
news agency.
It also described the reported
decision of the Huthis to accept
Resolution 2216 as a “step in the
right direction towards ending
the Yemen crisis”. Around 4,500
civilians have been killed in the
conflict since March.
A first attempt to hold peace talks
in Geneva in June between progovernment forces and Huthi rebels
collapsed without the warring parties
even sitting down in the same room.
Last month, Hadi’s government
backed away from UN-sponsored
talks that were to be held in Oman,
insisting the rebels first withdraw
from captured territory.
The Huthis overran the capital
Sanaa unopposed in September 2014
and went on to battle for control of
several regions, aided by renegade
troops loyal to Saleh.
In July, loyalist forces backed by the
Saudi-led coalition evicted the rebels
from five southern provinces and have
since set their sights on Sanaa.

US F-16 struck by enemy fire in Afghan
Kabul
US F-16 was struck by
enemy fire in eastern
Afghanistan, military officials
said, in a rare instance of an
advanced fighter jet coming
under a Taliban-claimed
attack.
The multi-million dollar jet
sustained significant damage,
forcing it to jettison its fuel
tanks and munitions before
returning to base, officials said.
The attack occurred last
Tuesday in the Sayid Karam
district of eastern Paktia
province, much of which is
under control of the Taliban,
who have been waging an
insurgency against US-led
A
NATO forces and government
troops since they were forced
from power in 2001.
The militant group claimed
they had downed the jet in a
statement posted on Twitter
that evening, but when
contacted for comment, the
US military initially said it had
no “operational reporting to
support the Taliban claims”.
Photographs of the site
obtained by AFP and seen by
J. Chacko, an open-source
military analyst based in
London, indicated the jet had
lost two “drop-tanks” -- fuel
tanks used to extend flight time
-- an air-to-ground missile, and
two other unguided bombs.
They also show masked
militants posing with the
hardware.
When presented with
the images, the US military
confirmed in a statement
late Saturday: “On October
13, a US F-16 encountered
small arms fire in the Paktia
Province in Afghanistan. The
surface to air fire impacted one
of the aircraft’s stabilisers and
caused damage to one of the
munitions.
“The pilot jettisoned two
fuel tanks and three munitions
before safely returning to base.
The pilot received no injuries
and safely returned to base.”

Egypt vote: 15-16pc turnout on Day 1
Cairo
he first day of a
parliamentary election in
Egypt saw 15-16 per cent of
voters in the country turn out
to cast ballots, Prime Minister
Sharif Ismail said yesterday.
Voting for the much-delayed
596-member parliament is
being staged in two phases
T
ending December 2, with the
first round of polling across
14 of Egypt’s 27 provinces
beginning on Sunday.
“The turnout on the first
day was between 15 and 16pc,”
Ismail said, quoted by state
news agency MENA.
Sunday’s turnout was
sharply lower than the 62pc
registered in the first stage of
the previous parliamentary
election in 2011.
That election had been held
over three stages, and in the
first round there was voting in
nine of the 27 provinces.
That
parliament
was
dissolved in June 2012, just
days before Islamist Mohamed
Morsi was elected as president,
the country’s first freely elected

The 2011 election, the
country’s first democratic vote,
had been held when Egypt was
gripped by a revolutionary
fervour following the ouster of
veteran leader Hosni Mubarak
after a 18-day popular uprising.

Bojan sinks Swansea
Stoke City’s Bojan Krkic celebrates with Charlie Adam, Mato Joselu and Glen Johnson after scoring
Swansea
ojan Krkic held his nerve
to convert the early penalty
that gave Stoke City a 1-0 win
against Swansea City yesterday.
Bojan stroked home a
fourth-minute spot-kick to
settle a dour encounter at the
Liberty Stadium after Ashley
Williams fouled the former
Barcelona forward.
The Spaniard’s second goal
of the season ensured Mark
Hughes’ side enjoyed their
third successive Premier
League victory, lifting them
into 11th place after they had
opened the campaign without
a win in six games.
In stark contrast, Swansea
have now gone six matches
without a win since their
impressive success against
Manchester United.
A mistake from Swansea
B
midfielder Jack Cork allowed
Bojan to run at the heart of the
Swansea defence in the fourth
minute.
Bojan slipped past Federico
Fernandez and tempted Wales
defender Williams into a
careless challenge which was
firmly punished from the spot.
Bafetimbi Gomis met Cork’s
cross to send a header wide,
but Stoke were almost the
architects of their downfall
when England goalkeeper Jack
Butland nearly landed them in
trouble.
He took a bad touch from
Geoff Cameron’s back-pass
and as Andre Ayew closed in
on the ball Butland went in to
the challenge studs first.
There was no doubt that
Butland took the ball and
referee Robert Madley judged it
a fair challenge, waving play on
much to Swansea’s displeasure.
Xherdan Shaqiri created a
clear opening for Stoke when
his reverse pass caught Neil
Taylor sleeping and Glen
Johnson flashed his shot across
goal.
Swansea were struggling to
find any rhythm and slick Stoke
approach play between Glenn
Whelan and Marko Arnautovic
deserved a better finish than
Charlie Adam’s wasteful effort.
The hosts were within
inches of equalising when
Jonjo Shelvey raced onto
Ayew’s pass and fired under
the body of Butland to strike
the far post, the closest they
got to scoring.
Gylfi Sigurdsson also went
close for Swansea with a longrange effort, but Stoke’s rocksolid defence kept them at
bay. (AFP)
