Humaidan explained that
the total number of employed
during the second quarter of
the year had reached 6,706
people monthly with an
average of 2,235 citizens,
compared with an average
of 2,317 citizens in the first
quarter of 2015.
The month of April
gave the best performance
during the second quarter
of 2015, where the number
of employed people reached
2,395
compared
with
2,211 citizens in June, this
in addition to employed
females at the end of each of
the first and second quarter
of 2015 which remained at
34pc, one of the highest rates
achieved.
He added that in the first
half of this year, the results
indicated an increase in
the number of both sexes
employed by 9pc between
December 2014 and June
2015.
The Minister also stated that
there was a gradual decline in
the number of unemployed
during the second quarter
of the said three months.
While the number was 6617
a citizen in April 2015, fell
to 6561 citizens in May, and
then to 6051 citizens in June,
compared with 6943 citizens
in March.
It’s a decline of 13pc
between the months of March
2015 and June 2015, and by
18pc between December 2014
and June 2015. It is a sign that
reflects the positive results of
the recruitment and training
efforts undertaken by the
Ministry in cooperation with
various institutions involved
in the public and private
sectors.
The labour market’s
decline in unemployment saw
a number of 4735 vacant job
posts in April to 5269 posts
in June 2015. The number
of vacancies in June saw an
increase of 11pc than in April
2015 and the percentage
increase of 13pc from the
number at the end of the first
quarter of this year (March
2015).
As for the available
vacancies at the end of
this quarter (June 2015),
the vacancies for females,
declined from 23pc in April
to 19pc in June (from 1068
to 1016 vacant posts). The
total gender ratio was 45pc,
in which males accounted
for 36pc, which means that
64pc of the vacancies are for
females.

was robbed for the second time
in the broad daylight.
The robbery took place while
he was returning from his
shop at gold souq in Manama
around 1.30pm.
According to sources, there
were two people in the gang.
Robbers, who had been closely
following the gold merchant,
snatched the bag before fleeing
the spot, the sources said.

Jiahui, who is on a fiveday business tour to Bahrain,
is enamoured with the business
milieu in Bahrain. “Bahrain is
a better place to invest than
Dubai,” he feels.
Liu had come to Bahrain to
explore business opportunities,
with a special focus on
establishing an export business
from Bahrain to the US, owing
to its Free Trade Agreement.
He had gone to Dubai also
and received many invitations
from there. But after comparing
both the places, he was
convinced that Bahrain was a
better place to do business.
According to him, Dubai
is far expensive than Bahrain.
“Dubai has made its name
only because of its business
propaganda the world over.
Meanwhile, Bahrain offers
many big facilities to the
foreign investors,” he said, and
added that he liked the way
foreign investors are treated
here.
Liu, who owns two big
factories of ceramics and
garments in China, said: “I will
come back again in October
with some proposal of a viable
export to the US.”
He said that he wanted
to make Bahrain the centre
of his business in the whole
Gulf region. Liu had planned
to send his son, who had just
finished his high school, to the
USA for learning English. But
now he has changed his mind.
“I will bring him here with
me where he can learn English
from the British Council.”
Abdul Karim Al Fulaij, who
helped Liu visit the industrial
area of Bahrain and understand
the Bahraini market, said that
Liu was a very big businessman
in China and he knew him for
the last 15 years.

largest summer camp to learn
new exciting arts and sciences.
Youth City 2030, which is in
its sixth edition, has attracted
hundreds of students from age
9 to 25.
Various arts and sciences
are being taught at the camp
by experienced teachers.
The classes include painting,
leadership, public relations,
cooking, fashion designing,
technology, writing, video
production and photography.
The camp, which will end on
August 28, is organised under
four sections; Art, Science,
Leadership and Media.
“The turnout has been great.
The students are impressed that
we have over 100 programmes
and they pick according to
what they like. Currently we are
having elections for heads of

each section. The heads will be
given various responsibilities of
functions of the meeting. This
will teach them responsibility
of being leaders as well as give
them the experience of earning
the right to lead their team,” an
organiser said.
An instructor at the camp,

“This is a great opportunity
to teach the students leadership
as they are away from their
academic
responsibilities.
We are teaching the students
the basics of leadership and
teamwork. We have many
activities including games.
They are also asked to give
speeches in front of a group,”
he said.
He said that many kids
joined because of the pressure
from their parents.
“But now they are enjoying
themselves. We give individual
attention to each student and
work on their strengths and
weaknesses,” he added.
Another unique aspect of
Youth City 2030 is the large
number of students who are
volunteering to make the event
a success. More than a hundred
students have volunteered to
help organize the event.

Investing in the Power
of Young People
T
oday, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund,
commemorates International Youth Day, under the theme,
“Youth Civic Engagement,” by celebrating the actions young
people around the world take to improve their well-being and that
of their communities.
In 65 countries, more than half the population is younger than 24.
Denying these young people the right to meaningful participation
in decision-making is a gross violation of their human rights and a
failure of the democratic process. It is also a waste of human capital
that can propel nations towards development.
Young people are driving change towards a better future for
all in every corner of the world. They are leading global action on
climate change, campaigning to end discrimination, speaking out
to uphold democracy and the freedom of speech, connecting our
world with innovations in information technology, and building
peace in societies ravaged by war.
In a world of increasing conflict, young people must be our
strongest partners if peace and security are to win out over war.
We need their fullest capability and broadest engagement for
people, the planet and prosperity to flourish.
The next 15 years offer a unique opportunity for a demographic
dividend that will accelerate conflict-recovery and sustainable
economic growth and development in many countries if we empower,
support, educate and create employment for young people today.
Young women and men need protection from violence, and they
have a right to access essential education and health services, including
for their reproductive health. They also have the right to be at the
tables where decisions and peace are made.
Yet, for the most part, young people remain excluded from
decision-making processes. Although 16 per cent of the world’s
population is 20-29 years old, this age group represents only 1.6 per
cent of parliamentarians, most of whom are men. Young people rarely
join political parties, and the majority do not vote in elections.
It is misleading, however, to conclude that young people are
uninterested or simply do not care. Today’s young people are
better educated and volunteer more for causes than previous
generations. They are also a key driving force behind making
companies, organizations and governments more socially and
environmentally conscious.
To fully participate in the lives of their communities, young
people need to overcome multiple legal, social and cultural barriers
and discrimination. Adolescent girls, in particular, are often
burdened by child marriage, violence, unplanned pregnancies and
HIV, preventing their full civic engagement.
In September, world leaders will formally adopt Transforming
Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a
historic, transformative, inclusive, universal agenda for our people
and the planet. To have any chance of succeeding in building
a better future for humanity, we must remove the obstacles
confronted by young people and invest in their health, wellbeing, education and livelihoods to unleash and leverage their
full potential as global citizens. We must ensure that all young
people have access to reproductive health and rights, including
comprehensive health education.
UNFPA is proud to work with networks of adolescents and youth
to mobilize support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s
Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.
Our efforts to promote youth leadership and participation
enable young people to develop the skills, knowledge and support
needed to make informed decisions about their bodies, lives,
families, communities, countries and the world.
Together, we can ensure that the post-2015 development
agenda promotes the human rights, health and well-being of the
largest generation of young people in history.
Together, working in partnership with young people, we can
enable them to survive, thrive and transform our world, and
deliver a better future for all of us.

food borne illness. It might
help to choose a fast food place
that has an open kitchen, so
people can see how the food
is prepared, and whether the
food preparation staff washed
their hands before preparing
the food. It is safer to eat
food that is cooked, because
cooking can destroy harmful
bacteria. Avoid raw sliced
fruit, vegetables, uncooked
sandwiches, and raw meats.
Raw foods are sources for
food borne illness because the
vegetables and sliced fruit may
not be washed properly. For
example, choose to order a well
done steak or burger, with a
side of cooked vegetables.

Dr.Nada: It is true that when
extra virgin olive oil is heated
to a high temperature, that
the healthy fats can convert
to trans fatty acids. Other oils
can also lose their nutritional
benefits when cooked at a
high temperature. Oils that
can withstand heat better
and retain their nutritional
qualities in cooking, include
corn oil and sunflower oil.

ost people think that yoga is a set of fancy moves that
typically “posers” like to practice, and in some cases, it
is. True yogis, however, know that there is more to be done
off the mat in yoga than on it. Yoga is a lifestyle, an attempt
to bring union into our mind, body and soul but also union
with all that is. It is a commitment to go through a personal
journey of self-discovery and hopefully self-realization.
There are eight limbs to yoga, one of which is Niyama
(in Sanskrit) or devotion. The beautiful thing I find about
Niyama is most teachers will ask you to contemplate on
what Niyama means to you personally in your own unique
experience on your spiritual path.
To me Niyamas are a beautiful act of faith, it is not tied to
an end result, and it is unconditional dedication. I realized
this while reading the Aleph by Paulo Coelho (yes, it really
is something) and in his second chapter he explains that
Chinese bamboo grows in a very unique way. A tiny shoot
grows shortly after a seed is sown and remains the same
size for five years. During that time, this tiny shoot grows a
complex root system that goes deep into the earth to support
the shoot later in life. Suddenly, almost magically, five years
later, it shoots up 25 meters at once! What would happen if we
started treating our objects of devotion like a bamboo shoot?
What if we water it with faith, sing to it, and treat it with love,
even on the days it looks like pathetic tiny few leaves? What
if we trusted that once we have paid all our dues on the effort
scale our bamboo sticks will outgrow us twenty times over?
What does that have to do with the fancy pose in the
picture? I’m getting there… This pose is called Hanuman,
it is dedicated to the monkey God Hanuman, King Rama’s
greatest devotee. Rama’s wife, Sita, was abducted by the
demon king of Sri Lanka, Ravana. Hanuman demonstrated
his devotion and love for Rama by taking a giant leap from
India to Sri Lanka to save Sita. The simple lesson is: “Power
comes from Devotion”. This pose, to me, beautifully shows
the manifestation of devotion as you gently go beyond what
you thought humanly possible of your body, when you accept
pain as it arises and offer your efforts as each breath arises
and unfolds.

interview to a local Arabic
newspaper where he claims that
“through his meetings with the officials
of the Bahrain Ministry of Interior
(MOI) in prison that the government

solution for this crisis”. He claims that
his objective is to merely find “solutions
for the human rights issue in Bahrain”.
How does Nabeel expect the people in
Bahrain or the government to believe
his empty words? How can he expect
the country to forgot the damage that
he is responsible for? How can he be
forgiven for making statements that do
not reflect the reality of his actions?.
Nabeel, together with his loud hailers
in the West, are responsible for
ruining this country’s reputation. He
and his followers have used Western
powers and NGOs to wrongly attack
the government and the people. He
knows the people behind the violence,
and he is aware of the facts but yet, he
has not taken the time to defend the
honour of this country and its people.
If Nabeel wants the people and the
government to accept he has turned
a new leaf - he will need to prove his
worth.

for all, regardless of gender, colour,

Global Village part of its global
community summer projects and
events, which was held on last Friday
the 7th of August, 2015 in lagoon,
Amwaj.
The village had 136 international
volunteers representing 22 countries
from all over the world including
Spain, Pakistan, China, Morocco,
Algeria, Tunisia, USA, UK, Taiwan,
Brazil, Mexico, India and more.
Each county was showcased by a
table containing its traditional food,
traditional souvenirs and many other
items representing their cultures. In
addition, the volunteers were wearing
their country’s traditional clothes.
Besides that, small and live shows
were performed varying between
traditional songs and dances.
The event had a lot of interaction
between the international volunteers
and the public. aimed at cultural
and religious acceptance and creating
global mindset in the society.
“Amani” who was part of the public
that visited the event says: that the
event made her realise that the world
is really a small village. And then she
adds, the event was really fun and
enjoyable due to the interaction with
the foreigners.
While the international volunteer
“Pie” from China says that the event
gave her the opportunity to get to
know the Bahraini culture through the
interaction with the public.
Notably, AIESEC runs community
development programs through out
the whole year and brings international
volunteers from all over the world to
volunteer in order to activate the projects
to improve and develop the country.
‘Bahraini CSR Society’ graduated 173 students
from the ‘Young Leaders Program’ since February

benefited from Bahrain CSR
Society Youth Leadership Program, the
fifth edition respectively in cooperation
with Bahrain leaders Toastmasters Club
and supported by The Domain Hotel
& Spa.
Since the start of the program in
February 2015, the society graduated
4 batches with a total of 173 students
aged between 12 and 18 years. The
society chairman Khalid AlQoud and
team members from the Toastmasters
Club conducted the program, which
was introduced in the Kingdom of
Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
The program focused on
leadership skills and training the
participants on the theoretical and
practical stages of leadership, and
also including the arts of public

UAE is top expatriate destination in the world: study

in the world that attracts
more working expatriates than
the UAE, according to a new
report.
The latest careers website
LinkedIn study, which covers
more than 380 million

members around the world,
shows that the UAE remains
the most popular destination
for professionals seeking
greener pastures abroad,
beating other job markets
like Canada, Australia and
Singapore.
LinkedIn came up with the
findings after looking at every
position that was added to
its member profiles between
January 1, 2014 and December
31, 2014. Based on LinkedIn’s
list, the UAE saw the biggest
entry of professionals, posting
a gain of 1.89 per cent of its
total workforce.
In contrast, other countries
saw their professionals move
away, with India losing the
most talent, at 0.23 per cent
of its workforce, France losing
0.20 per cent and Italy 0.19
per cent. Most professionals
who moved into the UAE
landed roles in professional
services, architectural and
engineering, financial services
and insurance, technology
(software) and retail and
consumer products sectors.
They were hired mostly
as salespeople, marketing
specialists, project managers,
corporate finance specialists,
accountants, consultants and
mechanical engineers.
“This is the second year that
the UAE has been revealed as
the most attractive destination
for professionals,” said Ali

announced a net profit of
US$150 million for the first
half of 2015, reporting an
increase of 5pc over the net
profit of the same period
of last year, while the net
income of the second
quarter of 2015 reached
US$82m, increasing by
19pc over the net income
of the first quarter of
2015.
The balance sheet items
achieved moderate increases,
as total assets increased by 2pc,
total financing and investments
by 2pc and customer accounts
by 1pc at the end of June
2015 compared to the end
December 2014. These results
reflect the Group continues to
achieve the excellent profit and
operational results, benefiting
from the large diversification
in income sources from
different core businesses,
where the income from these
sources witnessed remarkable
growth during the first half
of 2015, despite the effects of
currencies devaluation and
fluctuation in financial and
economic situations regionally
and internationally.
Commenting on these
results, Sheikh Saleh Abdullah
Kamel, Chairman of Al
Baraka Banking Group, said,
“The unstable political and
economic situations continued
during the first half of 2015
regionally and internationally
offset by noticeable and
perseverance international
efforts to enhance recovery and
growth prospects in developed
and emerging countries and
amid restricted regulatory and
supervisory environment. All
these created challenges for

With regard to the results
of the second quarter of
this year compared with
the results of the first
quarter of the same year,
the total operating income
increased by 11pc to reach
US$264m. After deducting
all expenses and provisions,
the net income for the
second quarter of the year
2015 amounted to US$82m,
compared with US$69m
during the first quarter of
the same year, a significant
increase of 19pc. In the other
hand, if we compared the
second quarter income to
the same period last year, it
shows an increase of 7pc. Net
income attributable to equity
shareholders of the parent for
the second quarter amounted
to US$45m compared to
US$44m for the same period
last year.

that “if they are not making
money in drones, they can
merge that with something else

AMERICAN F-16 CRASHES IN GERMANY

US F-16 fighter jet crashed
yesterday in southern Germany
but the pilot parachuted to safety with
only minor injuries, local police and the
US military said.
The jet came down at 0738 GMT in
a wooded area near the city of Bayreuth
in Bavaria, sparking a forest fire. The
cause of the crash was not immediately
clear.
“The pilot safely ejected” when the
F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed during
a training flight, said a spokesman for
the US Spangdahlem Air Base near the
western city of Trier, where the jet was
stationed.

The newcomers look solid
Sometimes, it’s hard to gauge how good the three
newly promoted teams are in the first few weeks, as the
excitement and adrenaline of playing in the Premier
League course through them. But if their first games
are anything to go by, this year’s batch stands a decent
chance of living to fight another season.
Bournemouth looked good in their home game
against Aston Villa. And it took two big Brad Guzan
saves to conserve the stalemate in the first half.
Ultimately, a 72nd-minute Rudy Gestede goal gave
Villa the points. But the wonderfully nicknamed
Cherries held their own.
“It was a really good performance from us,”
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the press after
the game. “I can’t be too critical. We created chances
and got into good areas. When you get those chances
you have to be clinical.”
Watford played to a 2-2 tie at Everton, which needed
two equalizers in the final 15 minutes just to salvage the
draw. “I’m very happy with the players and the result,”
new Norwich manager Quique Flores told the media.
“We have only been working together for six weeks and
we have lots of different nationalities.”
Norwich, meanwhile, was controversially disallowed
an equalizer that would have brought the game back
to 2-2 after an early 2-0 deficit, before Yohan Cabaye
made it 3-1 to Crystal Palace. Which is to say that the
Canaries might well have gotten at least a point, had it
not been for that call. And perhaps they deserved more.
“We dominated the game at the start and we had
to take our chances,” manager Alex Neil said. “But we
didn’t do that.”
We got some lovely goals
Everton’s first equalizer came on a Ross Barkley laser.
Odion Ighalo then made coveted Toffees defender
John Stones look stupid on Watford’s second go-ahead
goal. Cabaye’s aforementioned goal was nice, too.
And, finally, Willian’s cross, which deflected off
Federico Fernandez and looped into the top corner
behind Lukasz Fabianski wasn’t so much pretty as it
was weird. So maybe take a look at that as well.
Everton could be in for a long ride
Two seasons ago, during Roberto Martinez’s first
campaign after succeeding David Moyes, Everton
finished fifth, a well-deserved reward for a year of
strong performances. Last year, however, the Toffees
languished at mid-table all year and never really put
it together.
Everton should be better than that, especially
considering the wealth of talent in its squad. But
against Watford, Martinez’s men hardly gave the
impression that they’ve shaken their sluggishness from
last season. The draw, frankly, flattered them. And
while the back line is loaded with three England
players, it looked shaky again.
Claudio Ranieri might still have it
Leicester City’s first season back in the top
flight last year was a weird one. The Foxes lost just
one of their first five games and then dropped 11 of 13
– while tying the other two. They then went unbeaten
in three games and followed that up by going winless
in eight, losing six of those. And then they finished the
season by winning seven of nine. They had been dead
last for 19 consecutive weeks but wound up placing
14th. Nigel Pearson was fired all the same.
Enter Ranieri, the “Tinker Man” who hadn’t
worked in England since he was succeeded
by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea in 2004. He
was seen as the last man to manage
Chelsea before the club got big and
sometimes mocked a tad for his
studious ways. But upon his return,
his side smashed four goals past
Sunderland in a 4-2 win. Many
had tipped Ranieri as the first
manager to be fired this
season.
The big clubs were
underwhelming
In the first game of the
season, United eked by
Spurs on an own goal
in a most forgettable
game. Neither club
gave a strong account
of itself, nor did they
convince
anybody
that some sort of title
challenge might lurk
inside them.
In the late game,
Chelsea gave up two
leads to Swansea City
and played much of the
second half with 10 men
after Thibaut Courtois
got himself sent off. The
defending champions had to
settle for a 2-2 tie.
Jose Mourinho’s men weren’t
very impressive, either. They got
their goals on a low Oscar free kick
that snuck through traffic and bounced
in at the far post and on that strange
deflected own goal. Swansea, meanwhile,
created chances aplenty, outshooting Chelsea
10-3 in shots on goal. Andre Ayew was allowed
to take two shots from up close for the first goal
and Bafetimbi Gomis converted his own penalty after
Courtois clumsily hacked him down at the edge of the

and crossed to Rafinha, who
started in place of Neymar, to
tap home.
Suarez found the net himself
after being played through by
Sergio Busquets in the 52nd
minute to make it 4-1 but
Sevilla were not finished.

by redirecting a Vitolo cross,
and Kevin Gameiro closed the
deficit to one with a penalty in
the 72nd minute after Jeremy
Mathieu hauled down Vitolo.
Sevilla kept pushing and

through Barcelona’s defence
for Yevhen Konoplyanka to
score. Pedro’s winner came as
Messi was lining up another
free kick, which initially
rebounded off the wall and
came back to Messi, whose

Coke had an opportunity to
equalise for Sevilla late on but
his free header drifted wide,
and Adil Rami saw another
chance narrowly miss the net
