This step will eliminate the vast majority of clogging problems. Once the water reaches the bottom of the agitator shaft, place agitator in reverse. Start loading additives! 3 Add Seed 4 Add Finn HPN—7.5 pounds/acre—(10-44-6) water soluble fertilizer NOTE: If using a granular fertilizer add to tank last, after mulch! 5 Add Finn HG (hydro germinator) 128 ounces/acre—1 Gallon 6 Add Finn HST (soil treatment) 320 ounces/acre—2.5 Gallons 7 Add Finn MB (microbial bacteria)—128 ounces/acre—1 Gallon NOTE: The use of Hydromax combines steps 5,6,7. *For more difficult soil conditions, using Finn HG, HST and MB individually for higher application rates is recommended. 8 Add FinnHydrogel B (water retention agent) Polyacrylamide Copolymer—10 lbs/acre 9 10 OUR CUSTOMERS “ If you ask most agronomists, what we have accomplished is next to impossible. I think this is the future of growing grass. Jay Cummiskey, superintendent at Beaver River Golf Club in Richmond, Rhode Island, could not be more enthusiastic about his results with the new HydroSeeder System, which includes special additives designed specifically for Finn HydroSeeder applications. Following the instructions of Al-Schrand, Finn’s additive specialist, Jay and two assistants seeded 54-acres of bentgrass fairways, greens and tees, and bluegrass roughs in mid-summer of 2000 to complete construction of the new golf course. They used a T-60 HydroSeeder, and applied over 400 loads to complete the job. “We defied the odds of successful seeding in the middle of the summer,” Cummiskey said. “If you ask most agronomists, what we have accomplished is next to impossible. I-think this is the future of growing grass.” The results speak for themselves. “For example,” said Cummiskey, “we seeded our practice green on July 25 and mowed it with a triplex mower on August 14. The uniformity of the grow-in was terrific, very impressive.” Cummiskey followed Schrand’s formula precisely, but with one addition. “We added one ounce of fungicide per 1,000-square feet as a preventative control against pythium because of the mid-summer heat and the Add Finn GreenPlus (green dye) water soluble packet 1 ounce bag/11,000sq.ft. (if green color enhancement is desired) Add Finn StikPlus (bonded matrix additive) 7.5 lb. bag/1/4 acre 11 Add Mulch while filling tank with water. All mulch should be in tank by 3/4 full, then completely fill with water. 12 Before spraying, make sure the agitator is shifted to forward and paddles are slowed down to approximately 1/2 speed or less. 9281 LeSaint Drive Fairfield, OH 45014 Phone (513) 874-2818 Fax (513) 874-2914 Toll Free (800) 5437166 Web Site www.finncorp. com SMARTER WAYS TO WORK ” — Jay Cummiskey, CGCS Superintendent Beaver River Golf Club, Richmond, Rhode Island need to keep water application rates high during the grow-in.” Speaking of water usage, Cummiskey believes that the Additive System helped save approximately 50% of the water that would have been required with a traditional seeding and sodding approach. “The HydroSeeder Additives helped condition the soil so that it would hold water better. This enabled us to water deeply instead of watering frequently and more lightly,” Cummiskey reported. “In turn, this encouraged deeper rooting. We seeded our first green at the end of May, and by the end of August we had bentgrass roots 7-to-8 inches deep. Five of our greens were ready to play in mid-August, though we won’t officially open until May of 2001.” Because the Additive System does so many things in a single step, the entire project saved on labor costs as well. “This system provides everything the turf needs in the soil, from microbes to starter fertilizer,” Cummiskey concluded. “That means fewer trips and easier maintenance. We are mowing all 54-acres daily to keep thatch under control because the turf is so lush and healthy. These are amazing results. I-think more contractors and developers should know about HydroSeeder Additives. The equipment and the Additives work together beautifully.” THE CREATING ADDITIVE THE IDEAL GROWING SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT OUR PRODUCTS FINN ADDITIVE SYSTEM THE IDEAL GROWING ENVIRONMENT v1 Hydro•Stik Hydro•Gel Stik•Plus Fiber•Plus Finn HG Finn HST Finn MB Finn HydroMax Hydro Stik is a special gum based tackifier for a fast, inexpensive and effective method of controlling wind and water erosion of mulch and soil. Mixes easily into suspension and is effective in a hydroseeding or straw tacking slurry. Creates a tenacious fiber-to-fiber-to-soil bond. Hydro Gels are a family of plant watering aids used to reduce or eliminate stress caused by a lack of moisture. Hydro gels will absorb up to 400 times their own weight in water and release back to the soil as conditions warrant. Can be applied wet of dry. Stik Plus is a combination of Hydro Stik and Fiber Plus, specially blended to provide both physical bonding of fibers and organic tackifier characteristics. Stik Plus is an excellent high performance tackifier and the key ingredient in creating a bonded fiber matrix slurry. Fiber Plus is a specially coated synthetic fiber to improve the tenacity and bonding of all fiber mulches, longer fiber length provides mechanical adhesion to the soil surface, reduces paper mache effect substantially. Reduces need for chemical tackifier. Improves mulch performance. Finn HG is a specially formulated seed enhancement product manufactured exclusively for the hydroseeding industry. This proprietary technology contains a formula of key primary and secondary nutrients. These nutrients are complexed in an organic acid base to ensure absorption by the seed. Finn HG also contains plant vitamins, natural plant extracts and polyhyroxy acid for increased plant vigor. Finn HST was developed specifically to assist with successful establishment of hydroseeded areas. This product can encourage: Finn MB is a highly concentrated blend of beneficial micro-organisms designed for the hydroseeding industry for new turf establishment. We have taken three of our additive products (Finn HG, Finn HST, FinnMB) and added moisture retention surfactants to create Finn Hydromax. This combination of materials, correctly proportioned in each 2.5-gallon container simplifies the Additive System. Now, each 5 gallon case will cover one acre of hydroseeding, all you have to do is shake and pour. (Premium Tackifier) (Moisture Retention Agent) (Bonded Matrix Additive) (Mulch Binder Additive) (Germination Enhancer) Finn HG has been shown to encourage: • Enhanced Germination • Seedling Vigor • Early Root Development • Stand Uniformity & Development • Stress Tolerance Finn HPN (Soluble Fertilizer) 10-44-6 Finn recognizes the importance of using superior plant nutrients in conjunction with your hydroseeding jobs. To ensure maximum performance levels for you and your clients, we have developed Finn HPN for use in your equipment. This is a field proven nutrient product used in the turf and golf markets for seed establishment. Finn-HPN was designed to give immediately available nutrients to the new plant in the most efficient form possible, at its most critical time of development, the first 3 to 5 weeks. Finn HPN is an extremely high quality soluble product and immediately disperses in the tank, with no concerns over insolubility, insuring consistency in application and 100% utilization. Green•Plus (Green Dye) Green Plus is a highly concentrated dye used to enhance hydroseeding or straw/hay tacking mulch. Improves visibility for more uniform coverage patterns. Higher seed germination rates are also achieved. Finn HPN used with Finn Hydro•GelB can act as a slow release fertilizer, due to the fact that Gel-B can absorb both water and nutrients. Then as the new seedling develops the Gel can release the nutrients that the root system requires. Finn HLL (Hydro Liquid Lime) Limestone Suspension Finn HLL is designed for adjusting the soil pH and is used by land reclamation specialists, highway and commercial landscaping contractors, turf management professionals, and homeowners. Easy to use, Finn HLL can be poured into your HydroSeeder® along with all other additives yielding a one step application. Remember, when compared with traditional agricultural and pelletized limestone, Finn HLL has greater strength and is more effective in creating the soil conditions required for successful seed germination. Finn E-Tack For Normal to Moderate Slope Conditions Finn E-Tack is a specially formulated polymer that electrochemically binds soil and mulch particles together for all varieties of hydroseeding mulch applications. Finn E-Tack was developed for the purpose of providing the professional contractor a low cost tackifier for moderate erosion control sites. Finn E-Tack can also be used to prevent dust in nontraffic areas and will aid in water penetration in soils low in organic matter. (Liquid Soil Treatment) • Better Soil Structure • CEC Improvement • Improved Oxygen Supply • Favorable Microbe Environment Finn HST is very effective on heavy clay soils, which are normally very compacted. When applied, Finn HST will create a microscopic aerification in the soil, allowing better root establishment, penetration, and nutrient availability for the young plant. Finn HST also provides a valuable function on high sand, low organic matter soils. These soils suffer from excessive nutrient leaching and very low microbial populations. Finn HST creates a coating around the sand particles to help hold nutrients in the root zone through molecular attraction. You will also have increased moisture retention and organic matter in the soil. This will help minimize the information of “hot spots” where germination and establishment are normally difficult to achieve. (Microbial Bacteria) Finn MB’s combination of bacteria strains are all commonly found in healthy, productive soils. These bacteria have been selected for their demonstrated hardiness, their aggressive rates of plant growth, and their beneficial impact in adverse environments. Finn MB is a carefully selected blend of beneficial bacteria designed for use on soils with insufficient microbial activity caused by excess compaction, poor moisture or oxygen conditions, and nutrient deficiencies or “tie-ups.” It can be very effective for hydroseeding applications such as land reclamation, highway and commercial developments, golf course construction, and professional landscape projects. v7 EXAMPLE OF HYDROSEEDING COSTS PER ACRE USING FINN’S “ADDITIVE SYSTEM” v2 v3 v4 v5 v6 The Additive System in a Jug Finn Hydromax consist of natural plant growth hormones and vitamins, which stimulate earlier germination and root development. The beneficial bacteria and microbes are effective in areas where the soil has been exposed to high levels of environmental/ mechanical stress that suppresses the natural microbial functions in the soil. Phosphorus (not in Finn Hydromax), generally recognized as the primary nutrient in rooting, requires microbes for conversion into plant usable forms. When seeding onto non-topsoil areas, these microbes in Finn Hydromax become increas-ingly important in insuring nutrient availability. Humic acid, a soil amendment, benefits various soil types. On sandy soils it creates a molecular attraction between nutrients and the soil particle, thus greatly reducing the rapid leaching of nutrients. For heavy clay and compacted soils, the humic acid creates pore spaces. Healthier plants are the result of this microscopic aerification increasing food moisture retention near the soil surface. The non-polymer water retention surfactants play a major role in allowing thorough, uniform moisture infiltration without excessive leaching. Post hydroseeding watering may be reduced as well. Enhanced germination, followed by faster deeper rooting is the hallmark of Finn Hydromax, achieving sod-like results in as little as 3-4 weeks.
