2015 ANNUAL REPORT PROUD Of The PAST . . . FOCUSED For The FUTURE . . . 2015 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE I 1 2015 ANNUAL REPORT Leadership Greetings, 2 015 has been a monumental year for the Tri-County Urban League as we proudly celebrated our 50th Anniversary. We are extremely grateful that in 1964, Valeska Hinton, Erma Davis and Helen Leatherwood mobilized a small group of concerned citizens to establish an Urban League in the Peoria area and in 1965, Frank Campbell was hired as the first executive director. Since then, we have been educating and advocating for the less fortunate and empowering our community in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford and McLean Counties. We have come a long way since the Tri-County Urban League developed one of its very first programs—the Summer Youth Job Corp, the first youth work and motivation program for minority youth. Today, we have approximately fifteen programs serving a combined total of over 5,000 individuals. We are committed to continue working diligently each and every day to make a difference. The 50 th Anniversary Campaign to raise $350,000 will contribute to Urban League’s long-term sustainability and improved social and economic programs and services to the most vulnerable populations. With the help of thoughtful donors and supporters, we can mold lives, empower families and strengthen the communities we serve. As I reflect on our rich history, I am deeply honored to be a part of such a great organization with board members, staff and volunteers that truly embody the spirit of wholehearted social service. Please join me in welcoming our newest board members, Jerome Guilford, Meaghan Jenkins, Tony O’Brian and Marguerite Ross, as we all continue to support Urban League’s vision of improving the educational, social, and economic opportunities for the disadvantaged of the Peoria area. Together, we will empower our community and change lives! Laraine E.
