While activewear is known for featuring the latest developments in performance fibers, handcraft tends to lean in more natural and noble materials that have a heritage feel. In the trend forum at SPINEXPOTM it was forecast that these two elements come together, creating a energetic combination of richly patterned textiles that crossover into activewear silhouettes. The most notable marriage of these two items was the collaboration between SPINEXPOTM and Meli, a leading Taiwanese manufacturer now based in China, who created sneakers using the knitted material made in the creative studios of SPINEXPOTM in London. Using the latest Shima technology and exhibitor yarns we see this explored further in the trend forum ‘Sensing the Motion’, with micro-trend ‘Energy’ focusing mostly on the Activewear influence. As globalization continues to break down historical barriers via internet economy and social media worlds, we see traditional stitches and patterns long associated with specific nations or regions surge in popularity as people return to their heritage and look at their national costumes with a new eye in an effort to stand out from the crowd and create their own identity.
