Time to turn up your imagination and
look into the future with Hobby Quest’s
“Flight – The Next Generation”! All of
the planes we are building in this class
will be inspired by what aircraft of the
future might be like! We’ll get started by
building our Unlimited, a special rubber
band powered helicopter that you will
get to design yourself! You’ll really be
able to open up your mind and dream
up a cool helicopter from the future!
Next we’ll build the amazing Seagull,
a lightweight electric plane that is
designed to fly as far as a football field!
The Airhawk is a super durable free
flight glider made out of balsa wood and
foam that will be built from scratch. This
plane’s design, when first introduced,
was considered the “future of planes”!
Those amazing models are just the
beginning! In addition to building and
flying cool model airplanes, we’ll also

SCIENCE EXPLORERS: SATURDAY WORKSHOP SERIES
SECRET AGENT LAB
Winter 2016
Grades 1-5
Calling all agents! This workshop
series is part forensics and part “spy
science”. Step into the shoes of a detective—uncover the science involved
in evidence gathering and analysis.
Students will create, collect, and
analyze evidence and discover what
skills are necessary as a crime scene
lab technician. They examine clues
and get hot on the trail of a culprit, and
then connect the dots using science
to help solve a crime in a hands-on
investigation. Look out 007! From
edible messages and decoding clues,
students will have the opportunity to
check out some of the skills that spies
must master in this hands-on journey
into the world of espionage. Take
home projects include an ultraviolet
Fingerprint Finder kit, Spyglasses that
let you secretly watch people who are
behind you, Spy-noculars, a Secret
Code Breaker, and an Inspecti-kit for
evidence collection.

SCIENCE MYSTERIES &
FANTASTIC FORCES
Spring 2016
Grades 1-5
Investigate several topics each week
with cool take-home projects. Kids
will be engineers, chemists, and stunt
pilots! Children will have fun with
physics and learn the science behind
magic tricks. Your Mad Scientists
will be shocked by what they learn
about electricity… blown away by
their experiments with air pressure…
and swept away by the excitement of
working with waves! They will learn
about simple machines and build
a propeller-powered car. Students
will make and take home their own
circuit maze, center-of-gravity game,
a “magic” box which make objects
disappear, a “Skyhawk” foam plane,
an “Air Blaster” foam rocket launcher,
and a bridge building kit.
Location: Rec Center
Dates:
April 16, 23, 30,
May 7, 14, 21
Time:
12 noon – 1 PM
Fee:
$115 per student
This is Mad Science’s super science
sampler - explore the world of science
with a different set of fun science topics
each week. Students will experiment
with super-strong magnets and have a
“hair-raising” experience while learning about electricity. They will play
tricks on their senses by experimenting
with their taste buds and manipulating sound waves. Kids will investigate
light waves, explore the properties of
color, and then baffle their eyes by exploring optical illusions. They will also
play with cool science toys and figure
out how they work and analyze the
amazing properties of slime. Projects
that students will make and take home
include a periscope, an electric Newtonian color wheel, floating magnets,
a static electricity stick, a superball, a
color-changing “heat sheet”, and more!

Town of Newburgh
Friends of Seniors
The Town of Newburgh Friends of Seniors
is a newly created volunteer organization
sponsored by the town, the Orange
County Office for the Aging and Jewish
Family Service of Orange County. The
group provides volunteers who will drive
town residents age 60 and over to doctor
appointments and grocery shopping.
Volunteers will also do the grocery
shopping for those who are unable to shop
for themselves or will visit for an hour a
week to provide companionship. A two
week notice is preferred for ride requests.
There is no charge for this service. Our
volunteers are trained and screened and
donate their time. Anyone interested in
receiving this service can call our helpline
at 564-8936.
Volunteers are also needed, especially
drivers. Training will be scheduled during
the new year. If you are interested, call
564-8936 and leave a message.
