NEWS & NOTES
*********************************************
The minutes of the March 20 GHAA Annual Meeting on March 20 should have included
this important item: The Members of the Board are to be commended for drafting Task
Checklists for every job that needs to be done for the Association; the Checklists are
both print and digital, and they will serve to facilitate the conduct of business in periods
of transition (in the event a Board Member is temporarily unable to perform his/her
duties, or when a new person joins the Board and assumes the responsibilities of an
Officer or Chair). This was a huge undertaking of far-reaching significance, assuring
continuity for all GHAA activities. We thank the Members of the Board for their
dedicated work on this project.
Jonathan Nix Demo
Artist Jonathan Nix and professional art model Thea Rowen gave us an excellent
introduction to drawing the figure from life. The demo covered everything from lighting to
posing, from gesture warm-ups to sustained poses, from materials to techniques. Jon
works in the traditional style that has been the mainstay of figure drawing for 2500 years,
but his approach is distinctly his own - from his regard for the unique model to his choice
of charcoal and pastels for rendering. It was an inspiring session and a memorable
afternoon.
GHAA Student Exhibit
Our Annual Student Art Exhibit can be seen through May 15 at the Buttonwoods
Museum. The awards were presented at the public reception on May 1. Middle school
awards were given to Mackenzie Cronin, Tyler Langlois, Ciara McCarthy, Jessica
Murphy, and Alexander Shirley; honorable mentions were given to Emily Gale, Gabriel
Michaelman, Saisidharth Seyyadri, and Quinn Tierney. High school awards were given
to Molly Balentine, Dimarnae Deveau, Chloe Hammond, Kate Keery, and Jayalakshmi
Seyyadri; honorable mentions were given to Jessica Dickinson, Kate Keery, Effie
Shilhan, and Samuel Shirley. Hillary Scott and Greg Moutafis served as judges for the
awards, and Hillary presented them. Congratulations to all! The wonderful and varied
entertainment at the reception was provided by music students from HHS under the
direction of Joseph Gori. A special thank you to Flowers by Steve for the extraordinary
arrangement that was the door prize, to Joan Turner and Annie Carriere for assistance
with hospitality, and to Barbara Blake and Anne Shadrake for splendid work in hanging
the art! See pictures of the reception on our Facebook page, but see the extraordinary
art for yourself before the May 15 closing.
