Operations Security (OPSEC) Information Sheet
See Something, Say Something. Report all suspicious activity on Fort Hood to (254) 288-COPS or 911.
As part of our normal recurring emphasis on remaining vigilant and staying prepared, we want to remind
everyone to report suspicious activity.
Suspicious Activity: Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate terrorism or terrorismrelated crime. This includes, but is not limited to:
1. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is unattended, a
window/door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur.
2. Eliciting information: A person questions individuals at a level beyond curiosity about a building's purpose,
operations, security procedures and/or personnel, shift changes, etc.
3. Observation/surveillance: Someone pays unusual attention to facilities or buildings beyond a casual or
professional interest. This includes extended loitering without explanation (particularly in concealed
locations); unusual, repeated, and/or prolonged observation of a building (e.g., with binoculars or video
camera); taking notes or measurements; counting paces; sketching floor plans, etc.
4. Public safety is everyone's responsibility. If you see suspicious activity, report it to local law enforcement or
a person of authority.
5. Describe specifically what you observed, including:
 Who or what you saw
 When you saw it
 Where it occurred and
 Why it's suspicious

Army Emergency Relief (AER)
Did You Know…
…Army Emergency Relief can provide assistance to purchase essential home
furnishings? Whether you’re newly married, had a recent addition to the family, or just
establishing a new household, AER can help with the essentials. Nope, not the big screen TV or
the mega entertainment center, but beds, cribs, tables, chairs and lamps are allowed. Don’t go to
the “pay-day lender” or the “rent to own shop.” The interest rates are exorbitant and you’ll end up
paying double, triple or even more to the friendly folks who want to help. Make AER your first
choice.
…Money gobblers eat away at your cash flow week after week? Want a shock? Record
what you spend on miscellaneous items for a week, then multiply by 52. A partial listing might
include magazines, paperback novels, soft drinks, beer and alcohol, fast food restaurants, video
games, movies and DVD rentals, lottery tickets, CDs and music downloads, exercise classes, cell
phones and texting, cigarettes, arts and crafts, toys, and pet supplies. If you’d like additional
information on how to develop a spending plan, contact your local Army Community Service
Office. You’ll be glad you did!
…Army Emergency Relief can accept contributions through its web site? AER’s web site
had more than 155,000 unique visits in 2014. After “landing” on our site, you can hit “Donate
Now” and follow the prompts permitting you to make a one-time or recurring credit card donation.
When talking with your friends outside of Army circles, encourage them to learn more about our
organization by visiting our web site. Who knows, they might just be added to our growing list of
supporters.
When you need help, call ACS Financial Readiness Branch at (254) 288-6868 or visit Army Emergency
Relief in the Rivers Building, Bldg. 121 or on the Resiliency Campus, Bldg. 12020, Suite 400.
Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Issue Submission
AFAP is the process in which we, the Army Family, have the opportunity to tell our leadership what is
working well in the Army, what isn't, and what we think will fix the issue. By submitting your issues to
AFAP, you shed light on the concerns you have with the quality of life within the Army and give leadership
your ideas on how to resolve those issues.
AFAP issues can be submitted to any AFAP Issue Submission box (located at various locations on post);
at Lane Volunteer Center; Army Community Service; Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier & Family Readiness
Center; faxed to (254) 288-3650, emailed to [email protected], or
submitted online through www.myarmyonesource.com (AFAP Issue Management System).
For additional information call the Fort Hood AFAP office at (254) 287-AFAP (2327) or (254) 286-6600

Soldiers: Heat Illness Prevention
Risk Factors
 Environment
 Higher temperature/High humidity
 Activities
 High exertion/heavy loads/gear/repeated

 Lack of acclimatization
 Requires aerobic exercise in a warm environment.
The body needs to adjust to environmental
stressors prior to high exertion activities; simply
being outside doing normal activities is not sufficient.
Don’t let heat illnesses be a threat to Soldiers in training
Community: Be Sun Aware

seek shade, and never indoor tan
Wear sun protective clothing,
including a long-sleeved shirt,

Parent Participation Program
 Parent participation is highly encouraged in all CYSS programs, as Families are an integral part of CYSS success
and a key component in overall program quality
 The goal of the new, Army-wide CYSS Parent Participation Program is to ensure consistency across all CYSS by:
cataloging meaningful participation opportunities, standardizing the point system based on participation
opportunities, standardizing the points required for fee reductions and standardizing the process to apply fee
reduction to monthly payments
 The established common criteria should ensure that Families understand that their participation is valued and
needed and truly contributes enhancing the sense of community
 Parents may earn a fee reduction for volunteering a minimum of 10 hours generally in their child’s program or on
behalf of CYSS
 Participation Points may be accumulated from month to month until the Parent earns 10 points, to receive a 10
percent reduction on one month’s fee for one child
 If a parent has earned 20 points, then the 10 percent fee reduction may be applied for one child over a 2-month
period or used for two separate children during the same month
 For more information, call 254-288-3139

address their needs and learning to manage child and youth centers
 The Department of Defense provides high-quality, accredited childcare and school-age/teen programs at all of
their facilities
 Interns also have the support of the U.S. Cooperative Extension System and its 4-H Youth Development Program
 4-H focuses on building better citizens and promotes understanding of social issues and how they can be
addressed to strengthen communities

chance to meet other interns and begin to learn about military children, youth and Families





Although any tuition or fees required by your institution will be the intern’s personal responsibility, alternative
arrangements with the program and university may be available to ensure an applicant’s experience qualifies for
academic credit
Applicants must be sure to provide the specific internship credit requirements for their program of choice
