A Moment In Steve's Shoes
There have been a number of memorable
fights over the years. The “Thrilla In Manila”
between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier
in 1975 or the “Bite Fight” featuring Mike
Tyson and Evander Holyfield in 1997. Now
we can add Steve vs. The Fridge in 2015.
To make a long story short, I just moved
into a new place in Riverside and the
refrigerator broke down shortly afterward.
The landlord bought a brand new one,
which just didn’t work when plugged in straight from the box. That paved
the way for a new stainless steel beauty to arrive and we confirmed right
away it was functioning properly. Just when I thought my cold storage
problems were over, the real fight began. If you’ve ever bought a stainless
steel appliance, chances are that blue protective plastic film has been
slapped on. I get why it’s there, but why is it so hard to remove? It’s
practically built into the product in some places. Trying to pull it off is only
so effective and I'm left with little, impossible to reach chunks that just
taunting me. My house guests may not notice them, but I can spot them
from the next room. A utility knife was used as a last resort, but even that
couldn't cut off all of what’s now referred to as the “Blue Devil.” This
protective plastic was rendered useless because of all the damage done to
the fridge trying to get it off. After one 15 minute round, I lost the great
“Fridge Fight” of 2015 due to exhaustion. The rematch will be announced
when the oven breaks down and a stainless steel replacement is ordered.

AUG 8 - Fort Walsh and Cypress Hills Historic Trades Day is on Aug 8th 2015
from 9:30:am until 5:00:pm. Once again Fort Walsh will be hosting our annual
Trades Day. This year we continue with the popular Victorian era military drills
performed by members of the RCMP, the NWMP Commemorative Association,
Southern Alberta Horse Artillery, local volunteers, and members of Parks
Canada staff from Fort Wash, Battleford and Winnipeg. Recruits from RCMP
Depot will also show you the difference between the Victorian Drills and the
modern, or Edwardian, drills that we use today. Static displays planned for
inside the Fort include a Blacksmith, Farrier, Wheel Wright, Leather Worker,
and Gunsmith. At the Métis cabin there will be spinning wheel, beading
demonstrations and Métis Jigging. We will also have a Teepee set up between
the Fort and the Cabins. There will also be Horse Drawn Wagon rides
throughout the day, to take people around to the different sites! For more
