HEWLETT-PACKARD PHOTOSMART 7350 PRINTER
INTRODUCTION:
The proliferation of computers, peripherals, cell phones, and other electronic devices, has
resulted in an increased emphasis on assembly related cost savings of these products. A
TAPTITE II® licensee has been working closely with the Hewlett-Packard Company in
developing cost savings via increased usage of TAPTITE II® and PLASTITE® thread forming
fasteners. This report documents the use of TAPTITE II® screws and PLASTITE® screws in a
Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 7350 ink jet printer, purchased in May 2003 by REMINC at a
major U.S. electronics retailer.
The HP Photosmart 7350 printer offers direct printing from memory cards, USB connectivity,
up 1200 x 1200 resolution, and print speeds up to 17 ppm.
For 40 years, TAPTITE II® thread rolling fasteners have been successfully promoted on the
basis of in-place cost savings by reducing the overall cost of the joint i.e.; cost of capital
equipment, taps, labor, floor space, etc. An additional benefit of implementing TAPTITE II®
fasteners is the elimination of contaminants generated in conventional drilling and tapping
operations. These operations produce chips and dust, leading to time-consuming and
expensive cleaning procedures. Also to be considered are the costs generated by crossthreading repairs and damaged components.
The following pages demonstrate the application of over 25 small diameter TAPTITE II®
thread rolling fasteners, in a thin sheet metal printer chassis, and PLASTITE® thread rolling
screws in molded plastic printer components, via our own in-house investigation, in the
HP-7350 printer.
This information is being provided to you as an example of how the cost saving benefits of
using the family of TAPTITE II® thread rolling screws and bolts can be utilized.
