Message from
Kota Baru Parahyangan
Praise to God Almighty, because of Him we can have Parahyangan Classical Music
Festival (PCMF) for the third time in 2015.
PCMF is initiated, organized & promoted by Kota Baru Parahyangan and it is supported by Indonesia University of Education (UPI), Institut Francais Indonesia, and
classical music community in Indonesia.
Kota Baru Parahyangan as a self-sustained city with educational insight, has
development concept to balance business, social & environment and the soul of
the development consists of 3 pillars; Culture, History & Education. PCMF is one
of annual events in Kota Baru Parahyangan, that conveys educational value from
Classical Music. And during PCMF, all the international conductor, pianists, violinist & cellist will give their knowledge & expertise through masterclasses for the
students in Indonesia University of Education (UPI) & the French musicians (wood
wind instrument) will also do so in the workshop on the 1st day of Festival.
The soul of Kota Baru Parahyangan; Culture, History & Education, is also known
by every musician. The professional musicians should know not only how to play
the music instruments skillfully but also know the history & culture background of
the composer & the music pieces they play. Playing classical music needs talent,
skill, creativity, passion & persistence.
PCMF is an outdoor classical music festival and it’s very different ambience
compared to indoor classical music. This festival is informal, relax & leisure but
without ignoring the classical music reference.
PCMF 2015 will use 2 stages (The Plaza & The Amphiteatre) and there will be 8 International standard conductor & Musicians, 2 Indonesian famous vocal soloists, 3
classical music groups with different music instruments & 1 classical vocal group.
Angklung saung Udjo will play classical music and so will Kota Baru Parahyangan
Choir & Symphony Orchestra which consists of 85 professional musicians from
many cities in Indonesia and 70 professional singers from well-known universities
in Bandung.
We hope PCMF will be a festival that can fulfill & accommodate the need of classical music in Indonesia and also give positive benefits to the students, serious
classical musicians and all the visitors.
We would like to express our gratitude to Rektor Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia,
Director of Institut Francais Indonesia, KAWAI piano, all International & National
conductor, musicians, vocalists & Choir and especially to all the committee led by
Mr. Agus Firmansyah, Mr. Yudi Sukmayadi, Mr. Stanly Tasin & Mr. Teguh.
Message from
Festival Director
As praise to the God, the Almighty, let us deliver the introduction for this “Parahyangan Classical Music Festival 2015”. This festival is the third festival which
will be held on 6th until 7th June 2015. Based on the success of the PCMF 2014,
in this year we have developed the concept of PCMF more comprehensive.
In PCMF 2015 there will be a solo cellist who will join the symphony orchestra.
The cellist that we invite is Oliver Mascarenhas (a Germany). Oliver Mascarenhas studied cello in Köln University and Hannover University. He won some
cello competitions held in Germany for several times. Because of his experience,
playing in The NDR Radiophilharmonic Orchestra Hannover, he involves in radio
and television programmes in Germany, and also he had opportunities to join
tour concert to some countries, such as Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Croatia,
Hungary, Brazil, Argentina and Norway. Besides that, he also became a guest
player in The Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, The Symphony Orchestra
of the Hessen Radio, principal cellist of The Orquesta Ciudad Granada, Spanyol,
and principal cellist in some tour concerts in China.
We will also present Iskandar Wijaya (a violinist), a young musician who has
been caught attention of Indonesian music lovers, who will give colors to this
festival. Another artist who are going to perform are Alfred Sugiri (pianist), who
is studying piano in Germany, and also Christine Utomo, a pianist who graduated
from Doctoral degree of Musical Arts study in piano performance at the University of Southern California. Moreover, national and international soprano and
baritone singers, Binu Sukaman and Joseph Kristanto, are going to brighten this
PCMF 2015. Other than those new soloists, PCMF 2015 will be also enlivened by
Jakarta Brass Quintet, Trio Cascade, Rechords Vocal Ensemble, Grenadilla Wind
Octet, Klasikanan String Ensemble, The Unitiy Choir from The Universities (UPI,
UNPAD, ITB, UNPAR, MARANATHA, ITENAS) and Saung Angklung Udjo.
Same as the last year, Kota Baru Parahyangan Symphony Orchestra will be
conducted by Prof. Gerd Müller-Lorenz, professor of conductor in Musikhochschule Lübeck-Germany. He is a reliable conductor who has also been a conductor in some musical universities in Gdansk and Wroclaw (Poland), in some
conservatorium in Saratow (Russia), and also in ABAM-Orchestra/Association
of Baltic Academies of Music. Other than that, Gerd Müller-Lorenz appears in
England, Italy, China, North America, South America, and Swiss often. He has
been conducter in New York Philharmonic Orchestra, National Radio Orchestra
Bukarest (Romania), das Rundfunkorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, das
Sinfonieorchester Aachen, die Nürnberger Symphoniker, das Philharmonische
Orchester Würzburg, die Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, das Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo (Italy), die Baltische Philharmonie Gdańsk (Poland),
das Philharmonische Orchester Saratow (Russia), die Kammerphilharmonie
Graubünden (Swiss), and die Sinfonietta Tübingen as well. Also, he has been
collaborating with some famous musicians; such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre
Boulez, Hans-Werner Henze, Kurt Masur, Vladimir Ashkenazy, dan Mstislaw
Rostropowitsch.
A pianist from Germany, Stephan Rahn, will also join as a solo pianist accompanied by the orchestra and play duo with a cellist. He is pianist, cembalist and
organist, who performed stunningly in PCMF 2014, graduated from his gospel
music study in Bischöflichen Kirchenmusikalischen Institut Speyer – Germany.
Then, he studied piano, cembalo and music theories in some music universities
in Köln, Berlin, dan Karlsruhe. Besides winning some piano competitions as a
soloist in Germany, sometimes he also perfoms as a soloist and an accompanist
at some concert in Euroupe countries, North America, South America and also
at some stages in Mannheimer Rosengarten, Konzerthaus Berlin, KBS Hall in
Seoul, dan Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Because of sponsor from the Goethe Institute,
routinely, he holds tour concert in Tunisia, Argentina, Brazil, China, Cambodia,
Pakistan, Mongolia and Indonesia. As a soloist, he often plays in some symphony
orchestras, such as die Nürnberger Symphoniker, die Rheinische Philharmonie
Koblenz, das Eastern Chamber Orchestra Seoul, and das Junge Klangforum
Mitte Europa.
There is also exhibition in the PCMF 2015. One of our sponsors, Kawai, also
presents exhibition for its featured piano product. Similar with the last year, this
year’s festival is the result of cooperation between Kota Baru Parahyangan and
Department of Music Education, Faculty of Art and Design Education (FPSD)
UPI, in which this cooperation is based on the strong willingness from these
institutions to facilitate citizen optimally, especially in educational field (music).
Based on the cooperation, therefore, in each performance, the artists and
musical groups are going to give overview about classical music through brief
explanation of the work that will they play. Also, as a festival complementary,
there will be workshop in form of masterclass for the young musicians or students in music department. The workshop will be held in Universitas Pendidikan
Indonesia (UPI). Through this PCMF 2015, we hope that the effort to facilitate the
citizen, especially in appreciation for music classic, will be realized well. This
open-air festival concept seems to support the atmosphere of “classical music
education tour” for the wide community.
Eventually, we, as the intiators: Agus Firmansyah, Yudi Sukmayadi, Stanly Tasin,
and Teguh would like to say thank you to the Kota Baru Parahyangan for the
trust that has been given to us to organize this PCMF 2015.
Please enjoy the festival.

June 6. 7.
2015
Ensemble Trielen is a reed trio formed by a clarinet, an oboe and a bassoon.
Endowed with a rich musical past since the baroque period, the vast repertoire for
the reed trio covers many centuries with their different periods and styles. From
variations about Bach, through works of Mozart and François Devienne, the reed
trio got its popularity since the very beginning of the twentieth century. A considerable catalogue of original compositions was born with Auric, Tansmann, Ibert,
Martinu, Français, etc.
Finally, contemporary composers are obviously interested in the reed trio, foundation of the woodwind in a symphony orchestra. That is how creations of contemporary works are specially written for Ensemble Trielen: works of Siberchicot,
Yves Pignot and, recently, of Jean-Claude Wolf, Henri Pauly, Laubry and Yassen

Started from the longing from some students of Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI)
to have a musical community, Grenadilla Clarinet Quartet was then formed as
a knowledge sharing and transfer media. Another background of the formation
was because a clarinet quartet formation is rather infrequent to be found-especially in Indonesia. Aside for the rareness of the instrument, especially the bass
clarinet, the players itself are not many.
Grenadilla Clarinet Quartet was formally formed in 2009 and was initiated by
Nino on 1st Clarinet and Jhonneysep on Bass Clarinet. The other members are
also prominent orchestra players, nationally as well as internationally. They
have been actively involved in many chamber music programmes across Indonesia and they also participated in a masterclass session with Arno Van Houtert
from Holland.
Although they have gone through some changes of the members on the 2nd
and 3rd Clarinet positions, Grenadilla Clarinet Quartet remains committed to
preserve their musicality, quality, as well as their passion. Having performed
in 2014, this year, they return to Parahyangan Classical Music Festival with a
different formation: Grenadilla Wind Octet.
Grenadilla Wind Octet is a collaboration of Grenadilla Clarinet Quartet and their
4 other friends on other woodwinds instruments. They are: Nino Ario Wijaya (1st
Clarinet), Dino Yulio Wijaya (2nd Clarinet), Rio Wijaya (3rd Clarinet), Jhonneysep
