The Board of Directors of The Floating World 2012 wishes
to welcome our attendees. Whether a participating group,
presenter, vendor, volunteer, participant for the weekend or
day, or part of the staff, your enjoyment of this event makes all
of our efforts worthwhile. We wish you lots of fun! We hope you
learn something you didn’t already know, teach another who
desires to learn more of what you do, experience something you
haven’t previously experienced and/or enjoy something again
that brings a smile to your lips and a twinkle to your eyes.
Please be aware that if you have any questions or concerns
during the event, we have arranged for the registration desk to
be staffed with a Concierge so that anyone who needs help can
get answers to questions. Yes, they know where Classroom #3
is and when the next class will be. They will know where your
favorite vendor is located in the vending hall and they know
when the dungeon is open.
Have a great weekend. We hope that by the end of this weekend
you will already be looking forward to TFW 2013 and we hope

The Floating World of 17th century Japan was a pleasure
district. Its visitors enjoyed an unprecedented level of
sexual freedom, unbound by gender or class. Our 21st
century Floating World aims to create a similar space —
a space of safety and freedom, the ideal environment in
which to explore.
We invite you to explore who you are, and who you can be.
Experience pleasure in a play space that is roomy enough
to accommodate the strongest passion and the wildest
idea. Learn from the country’s top educators — and from
each other.
Many sexuality events are run by a single organization
or a promoter, and are designed to appeal to one specific
interest: LGBTQ , bondage, spiritual sex, political
engagement, etc. The Floating World is a meeting-place
for these communities, and many more. We encourage
our attendees to build bridges among communities, to
share perspectives, strategies, and insight.
The Floating World is three full days of classes, workshops,
and panel discussions, alongside a marketplace brimming
with toys and clothes to excite and entice. We are delighted
to be including special events hosted by our special events
team as well as diverse participating groups.

The Floating World is an event committed to both play and education that bridges communities together: alt-sex, queer,
BDSM, kink, sex-positive, polyamory, spiritual sex, gender and sex radicals, swinger, leather, M/s, trans, fetish, poly,
equestrian, LGBT, bondage, sissy, AB, body modification, and more.

All activity must be consensual — both inside and outside
of play areas — in both actions and language. The event’s
working definition of “consent” is: the voluntary agreement
or acquiescence by a person of age and with requisite
mental capacity who is not under duress or coercion and has
knowledge or understanding. In other words: All touch is by
permission only.
Nudity - Being nude is allowed in play spaces and classrooms
but clothing must be street legal in any area visible to the
general public, especially the registration area.
Cameras and Recording Devices - Any and all cameras or
recording devices are strictly prohibited in the NJ Expo and
Convention Center, even in classrooms, vending areas and
restrooms. If found, they’ll be confiscated by event security
and returned after the event (minus any media). An eventauthorized photographer will be available for souvenir
photos.
Cell Phones - Phones must be on vibrate or silent at all times
inside the NJ Expo and Convention Center.
• NO - Phone use in the playspace, vending, or
classrooms.
• NO - Photos, video, or audible ringing anywhere.
• YES - phone calls OK outside of the NJ Expo and
Convention Center only.
• YES - Texting in hallways/lobby is allowed.
• BREAKING THE CELL PHONE POLICY
IS GROUNDS FOR EJECTION WITH NO
REFUND.
Assistive Technology - If you require assistive technology
during classes or in the playspace, please speak to a staff
member.
Smoking - Smoking is not allowed in the NJ Expo and
Convention Center by New Jersey state law. Please smoke
outside, at a minimum of 15 feet away from the entrance of
the building.
Registration - All attendees must be 19 years of age and
provide government-issued ID to verify age. Attendees with
known medical conditions should state those conditions at
the time of registration and alert DMs before scenes.
Security - Event Security, DMs, NJ Expo and Convention
Center Security, State and Edison Township Police and Fire
Marshals may all be on-site to provide a safe environment
for our event. Please cooperate with their instructions or you
may be removed from the event without refund. Security
volunteers are fellow lifestylers, looking to ensure we all have
a good and safe experience. Feel free to communicate with
them.
Wristbands and Badges - Must be worn at all times. Keeping
it in your pocket or on your toy bag is not sufficient. Attendees
without proper wristbands and badges will be removed from
the event.
Facility - Remember, we are renting this facility and we
would like to be welcome to return in the future. Do not
damage any part of the facility, and respect NJ Expo and
Convention Center Staff at all times, keeping in mind that
they may be vanilla.
The Floating World staff and NJ Expo and Convention Center
staff thank you for helping to keep this event safe and enjoyable.
Solicitation - Accepting pay for sexual services of any kind
is illegal in the state of New Jersey. That includes BDSM,
professional dominant/submissive services, and “personal
training” of an erotic nature, even when payment is made
off-site. Solicitation is prohibited; violators will be removed
from the event without refund.
Weapons - NO firearms, explosives, pyrotechnic devices,
stun guns, cattle prods, switchblades or automatic knives
allowed. Replica (non-firing) guns, swords, and knives
are allowed but should be in a bag or case when not being
used in actual play. DMs must be alerted before the use of
weapons in a scene.
Alcohol and Drugs - No one carrying alcoholic beverages,
and no one who is noticeably intoxicated will be allowed into
the NJ Expo and Convention Center. No possession or use
of illegal drugs of any kind is permitted at any time on any
part of the premises.

Dungeon Monitors (DMs) and Security are serving the
community and the event; cooperation with them is mandatory.
Barrier protection is to be used at all times, EVEN between
“fluid bonded” individuals. Gloves, condoms and other
equipment are provided; see a DM for location.
Hazardous or unsafe play, or any play deemed unsafe by the
event staff, is prohibited. Consult a DM if you aren’t sure about
the safety of an activity.
Safewords - The event’s safewords are “RED” and
“SAFEWORD”. If anyone involved in a scene uses one of
these words, ALL PLAY MUST STOP. Participants will be
allowed a reasonable amount of time to respond before DMs
interrupt. Participants who are unable to call a safeword loudly
must be given keys or a handkerchief to drop as an alternate
means of signaling distress to the DMs. Partners may of course
arrange their own safewords as desired, but intervention from
the staff will only come from use of the event safewords.
No non-consensual staring/masturbation. Do not distract
people involved in a scene or become involved in a scene without
prior agreement. In short, no wanking!
Medical Conditions - If you have a known medical condition
that may affect play, please notify both your partner and the
nearest DM.
Medical scenes are restricted to medical play areas. Piercings,
cuttings, suturing, and blood-play, including temporary
piercings, are restricted to designated areas. Needles must be
corked and fresh cuttings/suturing covered before leaving the
medical area. You are responsible for disposal of all body fluids
and sharps. Tops must wear gloves if skin is penetrated and
safety glasses if there is danger of blood splatter.
Weapons & Uniforms - No firearms, pyrotechnic or ballistic
devices are allowed in the play space. Switchblades and
automatic knives are illegal in the state of New Jersey. No
police, government or emergency uniforms may be worn that
are valid in the state of New Jersey. Posing as a government
official is a felony.
The following types of play require notifying a DM before
beginning:

Trigger-heavy play (race play, rape play, play with
loud epithets, politically questionable play, etc.)
Consensual non-consent (rape play, resistance play,
wrestling/boxing/takedowns, etc.)
Fire-play
Scenes involving weapons (large knives, replica
guns, etc.)
If a scene disturbs or upsets you, walk away.
No solo scenes; you must find a spotter.
Fire-play is limited to isopropyl alcohol and paraffin wax. The
Fire Marshal has final approval on all fire-play and must be
notified any time that anyone wishes to engage in fire-play.
Breath-play is permitted, however restriction of the airway must
cease if the receiver becomes cyanotic or loses consciousness.
All players must be able to communicate somehow at all times
(ie., hand signals, holding keys, handkerchief, etc.).
Violet wands may be used with healthy individuals with no
history of coronary illness. TENS and similar devices may be
used below the waist. Homemade electrical devices are not
allowed except as part of a class/workshop. No stun guns or
cattle prods are allowed at this event. They are illegal in the
state of New Jersey.
Watersports, golden showers, scat, and splosh are absolutely
prohibited due to inadequate clean-up facilities.

so you can get better acquainted with folks from around the
globe that are looking to make new friends. This is a great way
to meet new people and make new friends, whether it’s for the
weekend or longer.
Cherry Popping
If The Floating World is your first event, we want to make you
feel at home. This introductory workshop about the FW event
covers things from first time event attendance to “event drop”
and what to expect. It is a must for folks that have never been
to a big event and may be a little nervous. Stop by, we don’t bite
... much.
FemDom Circle Wine & Cheese Meet N Greet
The FemDomCircle is pleased to host a Wine and Cheese
party. This is a mixer for Dominant women and submissive
men. Each submissive man will be given a lock, and each
Dominant woman a key and we will socialize by finding the
lock and key that fit. Wine, cheese and snacks will be served.

The Gauntlet is coming back for its third year at The Floating
World! The Gauntlet is an ancient rite of passage or discipline
used by tribes and families long ago. It is a very cathartic group
activity.

end while being tapped by these tops.

Finding Another Way: How to Adapt Your Bondage

You’ve learned your square knot, the larks head, the bite, an
overhand knot. Maybe you even work a bowline into your
repertoire. You know single column and two column ties, but
you still are not certain how to apply what you know into a rope
scene. Don’t learn how to tie specific ties, learn how to apply
what you know into a scene that works for you and your bottom.
If you are sick of doing the same chest harness, the same hogtie
it’s time to change the way you look at your bondage.
This will be a hands on class, without a set tie predefined. We
will explore the different body types in the room and work
through adjusting on the fly for different bottoms. Most times
when we go into a tie we have a set position or something we
imagine in our head that we want to create or emulate. We also
realize the second that we start to apply the rope to our bottom
that we need to makes changes, adapt, and start to show our
flexibility as a top. This flexibility can be the difference between
your bottom having a good scene or a potential bad or boring
scene. A scene that is plagued with pauses while you figure out
how to adjust what your original thought was as your time and
patience that your bottom can tolerate runs out.

be going over drills to learn basic movements and techniques
when flogging with one flogger in each hand. We will cover

technique and practice class, it is recommended that you bring

want to move them. You can re-rig them to get the effect you
want, or you can make your suspension inherently mobile.
Inversion, face down, face up, vertical, angled front or back,
curled into a ball, spread eagled, splits, forward and backward
rolls, gymnastic positions, and aerial artistry, all of these are
possible in one suspension. In this class, I’ll demonstrate how
to suspend someone with an inherent amount of mobility,
starting from a basic marionette or puppeteer suspension, and

Sydney feels truly fortunate to be the Executive Director of The
Floating World, an event that she has loved since its beginning.
She has been a part of this event from the first year (2007).
Starting as a volunteer, she has taken on more responsibility
each year culminating in her taking over as Executive Director
in 2011.
She identifies as a poly, kinky, all-gender-friendly switch, and
has been in the scene since 2001. She loves to play with any
“bits!” Her biggest kink is organizing things and people (wait,
that may be her OCD kicking in again).
This year many, many people have supported Sydney, held her
up and stood by her as she has figured her way through making

~10 years, and is proud to have been a part of The Floating
World since its beginning. She is a dedicated member of
Sovereign House Leather Family, and her Daddy made her

Board Member/Event Director, she is most especially proud of
all the hard work and dedication of the staff she is privileged to

MJ, Director of Safety
MJ is a poly, kinky, queer femme, wife to a loving husband and
mother to their two children, newlywed to her loving butch,
matriarch to her leather family, and Ma’am to a service boy
under Her consideration. She is a fierce lover, a dilettante of
etiquette, and is delightfully titillated by the sick and twisted.
MJ has been an educator in the scene for several years now,
presenting along the east coast, at various events in PA, NJ,
CT, RI, MD, and Washington, DC. She is a strong advocate
of femme visibility and is thrilled to once again be on staff for
TFW!
Julia James, Director of Community Participation
Julia James is a queer femme, collared top, devoted rubberist,
and bloodsports enthusiast. Still relatively new to the
community, she discovered her own Sadomasochistic
tendencies while exploring the world of body modification and
modern primitivism while growing up in New York City. She
is a huge fan and supporter of pansexual educational events like
The Floating World and is excited to be able to have served as
this year’s Director of Community Participation. She lives in
Philadelphia with her partner and Owner and works as a fine
art and craft curator, sculptor, and performer.
Melanie, Co-Director of Marketing
Melanie has been active in the BDSM lifestyle for almost
twenty years. For more than thirteen of those years, she served
as President of Long Island Leather and Roses, (LILNR), a group
which she helped found. As an LILNR Coordinator, it was
very important to her to help provide a place where community
members have a warm and accepting place to meet people and
learn from each other as they traveled on their journey. Over
the years, many people have developed friends, relationships
and families that will continue to evolve over time. It makes
her happy to know that her contributions to the community
have been helpful to so many people. She is currently a member
on the Board of the Long Island Chapter of MAsT. Melanie has
volunteered for The Floating World since its inception. She is
excited to be a part of the staff this year and is looking forward
to another fabulous weekend.
Jean, Co-Director of Marketing
Jean has been active in the BDSM community for almost
fifteen years. She is one of the founders of Long Island Leather N
Roses and served as a Coordinator for more than thirteen years
before stepping down. Before coming into the scene she was
politically and socially active in the lesbian community. She
currently is an active member of MAsT: LI and has volunteered
for The Floating World for each of the years of its existence. She

Ever and Lynk are proud to be making their debut as the
Programming Co-Coordinators for The Floating World 2012.
After stumbling into BDSM 10 years ago and playing together
exclusively for most of that time, Ever’s and Lynk’s interests
diverged. Today, you will find Ever more heavily involved in
the M/s and D/s communities as a control-oriented submissive.
In contrast, Lynk can be found breaking and fi xing his fellow
kinksters as a top-heavy sadomasochist or presenting on a wide
variety of kinky topics related to the workings of the human
body. While maintaining their status to one another as life
partners, they practice needs-based poly. Ever is honored to
also be JR’s submissive after meeting him at TFW 2011. Ever
and Lynk both believe education is of utmost significance and
are also huge proponents of responsible, sex-positive events. For
these reasons, they are enthusiastic to be on TFW Staff.
Robert has been a highly regarded commercial photographer for
the past three decades. Born in Italy, and based in Philadelphia,
he’s been providing a myriad of corporate and commercial
clients with innovative, creative photographic solutions. Twelve
years ago he branched further into the art world and began his
“FotoArt Images” venture. His photographic nudes, studies, and
art images exemplify a keen understanding of humanity and
the lifestyle, the human form , creative lighting, and an artistic

Usually seen as Mommy/Big Sister, helper, protector, nurturer,
administrator, and/or organizer. Amethyst tries to help others

Keiden, Assistant/Back-Up to MJ
Zelda is an insatiable, polyamorous, bisexual switch who just
can’t get enough BDSM. She loves to play and connect with
people. She has been playing publicly since 2006 and behind
closed doors since she was a teenager. While she has presented
an occasional class, she is better known for her medical skills.
She has been the medical director at “Winter Solstice” for
the past few years and on the medical team at multiple other
events. Even when she is not on the medical team at an event,
she is always available to help out with medical problems at any
event she attends.
Keiden is a gender queer, kinky, recent college grad, and boy to
their Ma’am, MJ. They have earned a BA in Gender Studies,
with a minor in philosophy; they also have a passion for making
sex fun for everyone with a healthy dose of education. After
taking a course on human sexuality and working at a sex shop,
Keiden jumped into the Baltimore and DC scene and hasn’t
looked back since.
Chantilly, Registration Coordinator
Chantilly -- or Madame Chantilly has been in the scene for
over a decade. She has participated in local and national groups
and events and has been committed to supporting events
that provide education, a fun and safe environment for all to
participate.

Lady Meri has been in the Lifestyle for the past 15 years. Her
biggest belief is in a safe environment for all.
In the beginning she ventured out to Hell Fire and Paddles
in NYC. Currently, she is an active participant of LIFE in
Nassau, The Oaks Club, Staten Island Kink, Triad, TFW and
Brimstone. She has been an active contributing member of LI
Leather N Roses, The Suffolk Munch & The Gorean Weekend
in Las Vegas.
Lady Meri, along with her partner Sparky, saw a need in
Nassau,LI for a place where people could get together for
friendship, a place to learn a new or old skill and to exchange
ideas and information with others, and so began LIFE in
Nassau. This group provides a safe environment for educational

ChrisMarks is channeling his early years as a theater geek
where he started out backstage on set crew. He is also a self

as a trained massage therapist. ChrisMarks teaches BDSM
workshops for his private educational group Black N Blue U.,
as well as for other regional and national BDSM organizations
on various topics including: BDSM Ethics, Limits, and Safety,
