Nautilus General information
About the Restaurant >>>
The 58 year old NAUTILUS RESTAURANT is nestled into
Island Point Hill in picturesque Port Douglas amid a
beautiful lush tropical garden setting with palms overhead.
Guests enter along a hidden pathway from the main street
of the Port Douglas village, to discover an awesome
restaurant that is like stepping into another world.
Our dishes have been developed around the natural
flavours of the tropics, prepared & presented to compliment
the Restaurant's Far North Queensland location & elegant
dining status.
We have established a relaxed dining atmosphere, a special „NAUTILUS‟ FEELING' that is totally in harmony
with our diners' „tropical holiday mode‟. It combines the element of a tropical paradise with elegant dining to
create a wonderful outdoor dining experience

What if it rains >>>
All sections of Nautilus have coverage that can be utilized
in the case of rain. We operate year round as an open air
alfresco restaurant with a clear roofing system that
protects diners should we get rain during an evening
A unique experience >>>
All of our function and wedding planning is tailored to suit
the individual group and their budget. For information on
menu prices, private use options, minimum spends &
beverage options please send an enquiry for a package
that will best meet your needs. We recommend placing a
temporary hold during the planning stage as popular dates
do fill quickly
Areas of use
Nautilus Restaurant can accommodate up to 150 guests for
seated dining across 3 areas. For smaller numbers we are
happy to work with you to ensure that you are placed in the
dining area that best suits your requirements. Allocation to an
area is dependent on the time of the year and other bookings
for a given evening.
The option to occupy your own private area is available.....
Canopy Lounge >>>
The CANOPY LOUNGE is a
large deck at tree top level
that places guests among a
canopy of trees. It is a
fantastic spot to enjoy a
relaxing pre-dinner cocktail.
Dining in this area is intimate,
and very suitable for small
groups up to around 25
people.
Courtyard >>>
The COURTYARD is the
original restaurant dining area
that has been transformed
from a grassy slope 50 years
ago to the majestic paved
wonder that it is now. Not that
you could really describe the
courtyard as a room, on clear
nights the only ceiling is the
fronds of the coconut palms
60 feet above.
Forest Deck >>>
The FOREST DECK was
designed to immerse diners in
the beautiful tropical forest
gardens of the property. The
Forest Deck also offers a
wonderful private area for
larger groups and functions.

surrounds, the warm weather and the beautiful
long beach draw many romantic couples with the
dream of the Perfect Tropical Wedding.

you will live long in your memories of this truly
unforgettable evening.
Tree Top Cocktail Lounge>>>
Why not have your guests arrive early for a pre-dinner drink
in our Canopy Lounge? Allow your guests to enjoy a daiquiri
or one of our lychees & lime caprioska‟s while your
photographer works to capture you in all of those beautiful
images of Port Douglas and surrounds. The bride & groom
can then arrive in time for a cocktail or a glass of bubbles
perhaps accompanied by a delicious canapé selection.
Location >>>
Nautilus is located right in the heart of Port Douglas with
access from the village main street. If you are planning a
ceremony in Stinger Park or at St Mary‟s Chapel then
Nautilus is only a short stroll away for guests who may enter
along our pathway from Macrossan Street
Music, Lighting & Decorating >>>
The ambience and natural beauty
of Nautilus at night does not
require any additions to make it a
suitable reception venue.
However, over the years we have
seen many brides add their own
personal touches to great effect.

arrangements, candelabra‟s &

Function Food and Wines
Food & Service >>>
Our innovative cuisine is assembled with loving care and due attention to detail. Group menu‟s
feature dishes from our a la carte menu with a structure that allows the event to run smoothly.
The most popular is our 3 course set menu that offers choices of entrée/main/dessert where
the guest chooses on the evening (refer to A2 menu). For the “full Nautilus experience” you
might choose from our 7 or 5 course Degustation Menus. The service of canapés is another
popular. We can accommodate any dietary requirements with some advance notice. Our floor
staff offer professional, friendly and efficient service applying the same level of attention and
intimacy to the larger tables of a group as they would to a table for 2.
The cuisine is „Modern Australian‟ and the restaurant maximizes the use of local Far North
Queensland produce with appropriate European & Asian cooking influences.
Nautilus Restaurant wine list is extensive and possibly the largest in Port Douglas.

MUSIC & entertainment
Entertainment is another way to add to the evening with a one or two piece band providing
wonderful music during dinner and the option for dancing latter in the evening. We have had
experience with a number of talented individuals & groups providing entertainment at the
restaurant over the past 10 years. Musical entertainment certainly does add atmosphere to an
occasion and can be that extra special touch in the Nautilus experience. Nautilus aims to maintain
an atmosphere that is suitable for all diners attending the restaurant and we must also respect our
immediate neighbors. Liquor licensing is active in Port Douglas monitoring the noise output of all
licensed venues and their rules and regulations also must be adhered to. Guests planning a
Nautilus wedding or group function with musical entertainment are requested to make their
selection from the musicians listed on the next page. Please have confidence that the standard of
entertainment that they provide is excellent and that they meet the guidelines required by the
restaurant relating to musical style & noise level
D.J. & Karaoke music are not permitted by the restaurant due to noise limitations and all
music must cease by 11 pm in accordance with our liquor licensing and council zoning.
GUIDELINES regarding amplified music
Nautilus is an open air venue with close proximity to immediate neighbours including several
accommodation venues. The restaurant is licensed and is subject to the licensing laws of the
Office of Liquor & Gaming Regulation. We have a community responsibility to maintain noise and
music levels to an acceptable community standard and we do our best to comply with the laws and
agreements that are in place. The following guidelines are in place to ensure that Groups that have
booked musical entertainment at Nautilus are aware of the rules that are in place so that they can
assist in maintaining an acceptable restaurant ambience.
 All amplified music to cease completely at 11pm Sharp with no exceptions.
 No amplified speeches are permitted during the evening (ie speeches & announcements
with microphone) except where there is a sole use of the entire restaurant agreement.
 Background music in‐between band sets to be played at a minimised volume with song
selection to be in‐keeping with Nautilus standards.
 No music selections to be played from guests IPOD or Laptop at any time.
 Maximum band size is 3 musicians with no drum kits allowed. Electronic drum kits are
permitted where percussion can be maintained at a limited volume.
 Musicians are to keep announcements and talking to an absolute minimum.
 Guests are not permitted to sing or use the band‟s microphone during the evening. Hosts
are asked to ensure that their guests behaviour reflects a fine dining venue and that they
refrain from boisterous acts including „singing along‟.
 Maximum decibel level permitted for bands is 90 decibels measured directly in front of the
speakers. Music that is measured above this level will be restricted.
Entertainers are required to comply with the directions of Nautilus staff regarding music levels
during the evening. If repeated warnings regarding music and noise levels are required then the
