Feilding Intermediate School News for the Week Ending 15 August 2014
Dear Parents / Community
Pupil of the week
At this weeks assembly, Mr Paewai introduced the latest Manawatu Age Grade Rugby
Representatives from within Feilding Intermediate. It was very pleasing to see so
many successes. The following made the Manawatu U11’s:

Connor (R14)
Manawatu U12’s:

Jonty (R19)
Kyle (R7)
Jaxon (R7)

Caleb (R8)
Max (R20)
Todd (R12)
Manawatu U13’s:

Jess (R9)
Javiah (R8)
Te Rangi (R8)
Mr Paewai also invited three U13 Central Region Netball Representatives to the front
of the assembly. The three players were:

Aaliyah (R8)
Lena (R9)
Monique (R9)
These girls were the only three selected from Manawatu. The team was selected
from Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Taranaki, Horowhenua and Wanganui so to be selected is a mighty achievement.
If you know of any significant achievements of any of our pupils, please inform the
office or teaching staff. It is important that we acknowledge the out of school
achievements.
BBQ FUNDRAISER:
Room 4 and The Sport and Art Leaders raised $190.00
that has been donated to a pupil from FIS who is to attend a Tourette’s Holiday
Camp in Hamner Springs. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser. The next BBQ is
to help support our chess team who are to attend the National Competition in Auckland. ‘Every little bit helps’

Success is experienced in
both these areas.
As part of my Platinum Homework Challenge, I made Russian Fudge
for the ‘Grow a $10.00 Task’. This was a great success, selling out
on both days I ran this stall. I was very pleased with the profit
made and it will be going to the Ronald McDonald House. Thank
you to everyone who brought some fudge and supported this fantastic charity. By Laura R20)

EXPO YEAR SIX INTRODUCTORY
EVENING: Our open expo evening is being
held on Monday 18 August starting at 6.30
p.m. for our 2015 intake of students. A number of our children have been asked to assist
from 5.45 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. These children
have been given a notice for parents / caregivers to sign.
A Prospectus will be available during the evening.
Our open days are next Thursday 21 and Friday 22 August from 9.00 - 2.00 p.m.
MATHEX:
Two teams of year eight’s and two teams of year
seven’s competed in Mathex at the Palmerston North Race Course.
First the year sevens competed against PNINS, they won. Our A
Team got 5th and the B team got 9th. The year eight’s competed
against PNINS and got first again. Our A team tied for 7th place
and the B team were 11th.
The day was exciting and the questions were difficult with the time
limit we had. There was a round of practical tasks and a round of
quick fire questions. At the end we received a pen and a small chocolate.
Overall the day was successful and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. By Alexis and Jacob R20
HAUORA INTEREST CENTRE YEAR SEVEN DAILY WRITING:
Students can
choose their genre of writing. A focus is to add new interesting vocabulary into a piece. The following are pieces
written this week:
“He had no-one to beat so I pulverized him but sullenly I didn’t catch him and the score was 5-10” by Tai
“I chose to receive and go with the wind, I was satisfied with my decision.” by Connor
“When I fell over I felt it in my pocket as it smashed. I thought it was broken and I was annoyed and glum.” by
Alister
“What they saw was worth a million words, but nothing came out.” by Danielle
CANOE POLO: All three of our canoe polo teams were in action last night and all three pulled off fantastic wins.
FIS1 and FIS3 played at the Freyberg Pools and FIS2 played at Makino. All three games were highly competitive with
some great polo being played by everyone.
FEILDING INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: 03 September at Timona Park starting at
11.30 a.m. Parents / caregivers are welcome to attend.
PALMERSTON NORTH BASKETBALL: The FIS year 8 verse FIS year 7’s was
played at FIS on Wednesday resulting in a 52 - 26 win to the year eights. Both teams
played a fast passing game with Eliza (R8) being the year seven player of the day. The
boys A team played PNINSA team. We won 53 - 27. It was a good game with all players contributing to the win. Player of game goes to Kyle (R7) for his outstanding fast
break lay ups!
The young leaders have been hard at work preparing a very healthy fundraiser which proved popular with the children.
They are looking forward to holding the next one.
