Introduction
The intention of this bulletin is to explain, with the help of screenshots, how to publish an index and burn it with a
CD-Burner program on one or multiple CD’s. It is not practical to explain the use of every CD-Burner program on
the market today, that’s why we have chosen the most common two; Nero and Easy CD Creator. The bulletin
shows how to burn single and multi-volume CD’s.
NOTE: A “Multi-Volume” CD will be created if an index is too large to fit on one CD.

Publishing an index using ZyPUBLISH
To successfully create a (multi-volume) CD you need to follow these rules:
·
Be sure you have enough disk space available to create a copy of the complete Index, every CD needs
700MB space on your hard disk!
·
When burning a CD, it will create another temp file, which needs an additional 700 MB of space on your
hard disk.
·
Follow the steps below very accurately to get a (Multi-Volume) CD, which is drive independent.
·
Check if the latest Service Pack is installed in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\ZyLAB\ZyIMAGE\AddOn\ZySEARCH Install\Patches
·
Start the program ZyINDEX and select the “ZyPUBLISH” Tab.
·
Select the “General” Tab.
·
Open the index you want to publish by selecting the “Open” button.
·
Select the index and click on “Open index”. (See above screen shot)

1. Create a folder to which to publish the (Multi-Volume) CD or browse to set the path to the folder using
the Browse button next to the “Path to publish to:” window.
2. Enable “Erase publish directory” to clear the previously published index.
3. Enable “Copy index files” to copy the word list to search through the documents.
NOTE: This is only needed when publishing Multi-Volume CD’s.
4. Enable “To all volumes” to copy the word list to every CD.
5. If you want to install the search engine “ZySearch”, enable “Copy search engine” - it is normally useless
to put the search engine on all the CD’s so DISABLE “To all volumes” here.
6. The option “store current ZyFIND settings for publishing media” copies all the registry settings from
ZyFIND the last time you used it to search through the index.
7. The “Copy Autorun files to:” needs to be set to <publish path> \autorun
See picture above for the examples.
NOTE: If you want to publish an index on a (Multi-Volume) CD and ONLY use it with a PC running ZyFIND then
do NOT use steps 5, 6 and 7. This will save an additional 120 MB of space on your published CD.

Select the “Media” Tab.
·
Select the Volume type you are going to write to.
·
For the “Final Volume Label Published Media:” choose a name of maximum 6 characters (no spaces or
wildcards). When creating a multi-volume CD the volume label will have 2 numbers after the name
starting with 01.
·
Enable the “Write Volume Label to Media” only if you are writing directly to a floppy- or Zip disk.

For “Gear” Tab see the previously released bulletin “Using ZyPublish to create Multi.pdf”
·
The “Print” Tab creates a CD label for the published media. There are nicer label creation programs
such as MediaFACE II, or others included with the CD-Burner software.
·
Select the ZyFind Settings Tab.
·
This screen will allow you to customize and/or include your local machine’s “ZyFIND Settings” or
preferences to the published CD.
·
The default settings are normally sufficient to use.

For a Single Volume CD the following messages appear:

After you click the button “Publish Index”, you will see the following message:
·
Click on “Yes” to create the Published Index. The previously created Published Index will be deleted!
·
Now that you have finished publishing an index, close ZyPublish and ZyIndex.

General Notes when burning a Single Volume CD
When you use Windows Explorer and search for the published directory you see the above structure.
When starting CD-Burner software be sure to take the following steps:
·
Select that you are creating a DATA CD
·
Name the CD exactly the same as the main folder beneath the PublishDir Folder. In this example the
folder is called “DEMO”. Remember it is Case Sensitive!
This is the same name you gave the index on page 3 under “Final Volume Label Published Media”.
·
Copy the complete folder “PublishDir”, Not the files inside this folder!
·
Copy all the files inside the autorun folder to the root of the CD.
·
After copying you can delete the “autorun” folder.
NOTE: It is very important to follow these steps to create a drive independent CD.

For a Multi-Volume CD the following messages appear:
·
When burning an index which does not fit on one CD you get the above message, click “Yes” to create
a Multi-Volume CD.
·
Now that you have finished publishing an index, close ZyPublish and ZyIndex.

General Notes when burning a Multi-Volume CD
When you use Windows Explorer and search for the published directory you see the above structure.
When starting CD-Burner software, be sure to take the following steps:
·
Select that you are creating a DATA CD
·
Name the CD exactly the same as the main folder beneath the PublishDir Folder. In this example the
folder is called “DEMO01” for the first CD and “DEMO02” for the second CD). Remember it is Case
Sensitive!
These are the same names you gave the index on page 3 under “Final Volume Label Published Media”.
·
Copy the complete folder “PublishDir” NOT the files inside this folder!
·
Copy all the files inside the autorun folder to the root of the CD.
·
After copying you can delete the “autorun” folder.
·
Also on the first CD you do not want to have the “DEMO02” folder (or other DEMOxx folders except for
DEMO01), so delete it from the list inside the CD-Burner software. If you do not do this, the index will
not fit on one CD.
·
On the second (and the following) CD’s delete the following folders: “DEMO01”, “ZySEARCH”,
“autorun”. (Basically only copy the “DEMOxx” for the volume you are burning.)
NOTE: It is very important to follow these steps to create a drive independent CD.

Burning a Single Volume CD using Nero CD-Burner software
The following example will use Nero Express (version 5.5.8.2) to burn a Single Volume CD.
·
Start Nero and select Data Disc as the format for the new CD
·
The above screen pops up

Click on “Add” in the Nero screen. Search for the folder “PublishDir” - highlight it and click on Add to
copy this folder to the CD-Burner program.
·
The above screen should be shown.

Go to the “autorun” folder and select all the files. Right-click the mouse and select “Cut”.
·
Copy the files to the root directory of the CD.

Delete the original “autorun” folder
Click on “Next”
·
The Disc Name needs to have the EXACT name as you used on page 5 under “Final Volume Label
Published Media”, in this example “DEMO”. Be aware that the name is case sensitive!

The following example will use Nero Express (version 5.5.8.2) to burn the MULTI Volume CD’s.

Start Nero and select Data Disc as the format for the new CD

First follow the steps on PAGES 15 and 16.
·
Because we are only copying the search engine “ZySEARCH” to the first CD we need to delete the
“ZySEARCH” folder, and the “autorun” folder. Also delete any “DEMOxx” folder other than the one we
are burning - in this case DEMO02.
·
The Disk Name needs to have the EXACT name as you used on page 5 under “Final Volume Label
Published Media”, in this example “DEMO02” because it is the second CD.

Burning a Single Volume CD using Easy CD Creator CD-Burner software
The following example will use Easy CD Creator (version 5.3.0.107) to burn the SINGLE volume CD’s.
·
Start Easy CD Creator and select “data CD project”
·
·
In the top part search for the folder “PublishDir” – highlight it and click on Add to copy this folder to the
CD-Burner program.

Copy the files to the root directory of the CD. Highlight the CD, right-click the mouse and select “Paste”.

Delete (Remove from the CD Project) the original “autorun” folder.
·
·
Highlight the CD symbol and right-click the mouse and select “Rename”.

Start Easy CD Creator and select “data CD project”
·

In the top part search for the folder “PublishDir” – highlight it and click on Add to copy this folder to the
CD-Burner program.

Because we are copying the search engine “ZySEARCH” only to the first CD we need to delete
(Remove from the CD Project) the “ZySEARCH” folder and the “autorun” folder.
Also delete (Remove from the CD Project) any other DEMOxx folders other than the one we are burning
– in this case DEMO02.
