Bulletin No. V
YEAR 2005
DEAR FRIENDS,
You have just opened our Bulletin No. V informing you of lighting projects that are currently
realized or have been realized recently.
We are pleased that the interior with our lighting fixture was very highly regarded by hotel
architects – for more information see pages 12-13.
As in the previous number, we bring inspiration again, whether it be our new set of cut lighting
fixtures named ‘Exclusive Collection’ (pages 4–7), or new types of chandelier trimmings by Preciosa
(see pages 8-11).
In the ‘Miscellanea’ section, you will find information on how three-D models of lighting fixtures
are designed in the initial stage of our lighting projects.
Some of you took part in the Miss Universe 2005 final evening in Bangkok. Our coverage of the event
is given on pages 2-3.

PRECIOSA AND MISS UNIVERSE 2005
THE FINAL EVENING IN BANGKOK
Preciosa has already made its mark in the world as the crystal
sponsor of the beauty contest to choose the most beautiful girl of
the Planet Earth. To our customers, this sponsorship does not only
mean the announcement in promotional materials or the logo in the
television transmission from the contest. At the very beginning,
Preciosa decided to view the advantages of the sponsorship
differently than is usual. Our company decided to reward its longstanding partners and best customers, and as an expression of
thanks and as motivation for further cooperation make it possible
for them to enjoy an unforgettable experience. That is why Preciosa
began inviting its best customers worldwide to the Miss beauty
pageants with which Preciosa’s name was connected in the past two
years. Thus, our customers had the opportunity to visit the finals
of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA contests, as well as the
attractive Miss Universe contest.
The winner of the Miss Universe 2005 contest was the dark-haired
Miss Canada – Natalia Glebova. As her name indicates, she is not
a native-born Canadian. Natalia is 23 years old and was born near

the Black Sea in Russia. A few years later, the family moved to Toronto.
As last year, three finalists also received a cut
crystal trophy from Preciosa this year. An
exclusive crystal chandelier named ‘Kristiánov’
will light up the days of the new Miss Universe.
The trophies by Preciosa left Bangkok with their
new owners for their homes throughout the

undoubtedly been the biggest event for Preciosa.
The most important customers from all Preciosa
Group’s companies were invited to Bangkok
where the event took place on 31st May. With
regard to this place, the event was predominantly
the matter for Preciosa’s subsidiaries and their
customers in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Preciosa Group’s attendance at the finals was
high indeed this time as Thailand was relatively
near for these customers.
During their stay, the visitors were given
a circular tour of the city’s exotic palaces. The

customers cooperating with Preciosa in the
production of lighting fixtures and lighting
objects were specially invited to visit hotels
where Preciosa realized its lighting projects.
After the winner of the contest was announced, a Crowning Ball was held. While part of our customers
enjoyed the ball, the rest could take part in Preciosa’s private reception where the new Miss Universe
Natalia Glebova came to greet them. The customers enjoyed the event very much indeed and had a unique
opportunity to gain their photo taken with this year’s most beautiful girl of the world. The rumor has

beautiful Natalia. Neither could Preciosa’s
representative in the USA.
To cut a long story short – Preciosa once again prepared for its customers an excellent stay enriched
with many unforgettable experiences. A number of expressions of thanks and praise, whether they be
oral or in writing, were coming from the customers a long time after the event. Thus, Preciosa showed
that the company holds its customers in high esteem, that it is a world company and, last but not least,
that crystal by Preciosa glitters more brightly in the company of the most beautiful girls.

New Color Inspiration
The upcoming season’s trend of crystal lighting and decoration is colors, colors and more colors. The
phenomenal rise of colors has successfully penetrated into the most conservative environment of
crystal lighting. We offer three different color methods, in a range you have never seen before.
ITraditional colors
A colorant is added to the ingredients that
are molten in a furnace into colored
glass. The color is perfect because it is
part of the product. A whole range of
Siam
traditional colors is available, such as jet,
siam, sapphire, emerald, topaz, peridot.
This method is not very flexible for
production. An important range of color
shades cannot be produced at all.

Light Amethyst

ICoating on crystal
The well-known example of this method
is AB but there are many others. A very
thin metallic layer on crystal pieces
produces sparkling effects (such as AB)
or pastel colors (viridian, lagoon). The
coating is durable but the product may
look different on each side. A limited
range of light pastel colors is available but
still expanding. Coatings are quite flexible
for production.

application with exciting results. Light
pastel colored lacquer is applied in thin
layers resulting in a whole range of soft
colors such as yellow, orange, red, blue
and green. This method is quite flexible
for production. The colorant is not as
stable as metallic coating. These products
may bleach in direct sunshine but are
suitable for UV-shielded applications

Black is back on stage again
The leading designers are always in search of something new. Today, the interior design is poised
with crystal and black. And what about fusing the two?
SPINA, a well-known luxury London-based designer company, has recently launched its new
chandelier collection. To celebrate this moment, SPINA designed a large centerpiece chandelier for
Decorex International 2005 – the United Kingdom prominent interior design show.
“We wanted to combine crystal and textile into an attractive chandelier design, a black one,”
comments Joe Zito, one of the two associates of SPINA. “Crystal is a traditional material in lighting
but textile is unusual. So we combined the two things we have experience with. The upper part of
the chandelier is made of black stone chains, the lower part of textile strips with black beads. And
the final touch – we wrapped the lower part with one chain of custom-made roses. This was the creation
of Black Narcissus.”
The giant lighting sculpture has been a success. It received great attraction, people kept asking about
it. Black is trendy now – the exciting designs will come.

Pink and creative ideas
Everything is pink today and so is crystal. Do you think this does not make sense? Well, have a look
at the following story…
If you had stopped the last summer at the famous Harrod’s
(Knightsbridge street, London) department store you would have
seen the shining displays. And inside these displays you would
have noticed stunning pinky crystal curtains. A successful design
by SPINA – a respected London-based designer studio.
A perfect example of an outstanding designer’s job – to imagine,
to re-invent and to show. We did not believe it either before seeing
it come true: Sparkling crystal curtains in department store
displays. Innovative, modern – and full-lead crystal. Crystal
with pink color finish.
All of the beauty is born of one single Preciosa design: the Lozenge series presented already in this
bulletin. SPINA chose one of the 3 different crystal shapes colored in pink and put many pieces of
the same shape together. The flat stone with four holes fits perfectly into a long chain and the chains

Mactan, Philippines.
“Shangri-La Chi Spa”
Preciosa made a glass sculpture 8,5 meters in height, made of handmade glass, different shades of
red and amber, mixed with clear. There are two metal spirals, one inserted inside the other, and a
glass dome above, filled up with Spectrum glass, and other types of fused and baked glass, similar
color to the leaves.

THE VISUALIZATION OF LIGHTING FIXTURES
Three-D visualization including animated visualization is carried out for unique lighting fixtures, whether
single or installed in interiors, and also to customer’s request.
What is the process of the three-D visualization of a lighting fixture based on?
The three-D model is based on a drawn design of the fixture including a detailed drawing of its parts, on
physical samples of available materials used when forming the fixture, or on new decorations and details
transformed from the three-D animation into the fixture’s physical shape.
