The Plymouth District Library will join hands with fair organizers for this year’s Art in
the Park. A variety of free activities will please fairgoers of all ages.

Parents, grandparents and caregivers should mark their calendars for Saturday morning, July 9 at 11 a.m. That is when the nationally recognized Wild Swan Theatre will

Swan Theatre has presented thousands of performances to audiences throughout the
State of Michigan. Frog and Toad will be presented in the library’s main level meeting
rooms. Registration is not required.

Local Grant Funds Installation of Lifesaving AED at
Plymouth Historical Museum
The Plymouth Historical Museum is the proud owner of a new LifePak CR Plus
defibrillator (AED). The museum purchased the AED with a $2,500 grant from
Plymouth Community United Way. The AED was recently installed inside the museum
vestibule.
“We’ve been trying for some time, through various channels, to get an AED donated,”
said the museum’s Executive Director Elizabeth Kerstens. “We were so happy when
we heard that the United Way approved our grant application.” This is the museum’s
first grant from the United Way.
“We just want to be prepared,” Kerstens said. “The average age of the volunteers and
employees in our building daily is over 60, but the reality is, anyone can have lifethreatening heart issues. Most schools have an AED now.” The Fire Department will
train museum personnel on proper use of the AED.
Captain Jim Davison of the Northville Fire Department, Plymouth Station,
recommended the purchase of a LifePak AED based on ease of use and the
availability of supplies. These are the same AEDs used at Plymouth City Hall and the
Cultural Center.
“The fire department is just across the street and they are thrilled we now have an
AED,” Kerstens said.
The American Heart Association notes that at least 20,000 lives could be saved
annually by prompt use of AEDs.
Every year the museum welcomes thousands of visitors representing all age
groups. The addition of the AED to the museum, along with the training that will be
received by the staff, will allow for immediate response to medical emergencies on
site.
The Plymouth Community United Way works to improve the lives of all people affected
by the community’s issues by pinpointing the root causes of problems that threaten our
community – developing strategies and partnerships to change them. For more
information visit www.plymouthunitedway.org.
