2016 Calendar - City of Tecumseh
Innovative • Timeless • Inviting 2016 Calendar Sponsored by Republic Services www.mytecumseh.org • www.downtowntecumseh.com • www.thetca.org Garbage & Rubbish Service City of Tecumseh Residential Household Waste, Recycling and Composting Services Citywide trash pickup is every Wednesday Holidays may delay pickup by one day. Look for the blue Republic Services truck on your calendar. Recycling is picked up twice a month at each home – Service is provided on the first and third Wednesday for homes in the Western Zone (both sides of Union Street, including Cree Court, Miami Court and Pontiac Trail, west to the city limits) and on the second and fourth Wednesday for homes in the Eastern Zone. There is no recycling pickup on the fifth Wednesday when it occurs. Look for the recycling logo on your calendar. Yard waste service is every Wednesday starting in March and running through the second week in December. Note: The City does not provide pickup services for apartment complexes. Republic Services is very pleased to provide service to the residents of Tecumseh. Questions? Call Republic Services at 265.1335 Household trash is picked up on Wednesdays. Put trash in sturdy plastic bags, securely tied, and put it at curbside before 7 a.m. Please do not place your trash, yard waste or recyclables out before 4 p.m. on the day before trash pickup. Bulky items: Collected each week along with your regular trash. Includes such items as mattresses, box springs, rolls of carpet (rolled, tied and cut in 4-5 ft. lengths), water softeners, furniture and large appliances. Refrigerants: Items containing Freon (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers) must have a tag attached verifying that the Freon has been removed by a certified technician. Excluded: Republic Services cannot take construction or demolition material, large machinery, microwave ovens, fencing, motor vehicles, auto parts or hazardous waste. Yard Waste State law prohibits yard waste going into landfills. City of Tecumseh residents can put out yard waste for pickup on their regular pickup day from March through the second week in December for composting at a state-authorized site. This includes leaves, grass clippings, garden waste and shrub trimmings. Place yard waste at the curb before 7 a.m. It must be in one of the following containers: Kraft paper biodegradable yard waste bags (available at many local stores), securely closed. Your own sturdy can with a lid to keep out rain. No larger than 30 gallons and no heavier than 50 lbs. On the outside, clearly mark “Yard Waste.” Put yard waste loose inside. A yard waste cart rented from Republic Services. These are large, easy-to-use carts on wheels. For rental information, call Republic Services at 265.1335. If you use a cart or can, remove it from curbside by 8 a.m. the morning after pickup. Brush and tree trimmings Branches no more than 4 inches in diameter. They must be cut no more than 4 feet long, and tied in bundles no more that 1 foot in diameter. Leave bundles at curbside for pickup. Home composting Composting is the natural process by which organic matter decays into a dark, rich and crumbly substance called humus, which makes an excellent soil conditioner. Tecumseh residents interested in reducing the amount of yard waste for pickup might want to consider backyard composting. Holiday Schedule If the following holidays fall on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, all pickup services in Tecumseh will be delayed ONE DAY for that holiday week only: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. What & How to Recycle Household recycling pickup is provided twice a month on your regular trash pickup day. Please check the map (at right) to see which is your zone. All of your recyclables end up at an approved recycling facility where they are sorted and shipped out for reuse. Put all recyclable paper together in a recycle bin, on top of the recycle bin, in a paper bag, or tied in a bundle. Put all recyclable items together in the recycle bin.
