A LETTER FROM
TIM PIERCE
Sunday Brunch
GENERAL MANAGER
Dear Members,
WOW! WHAT A SUMMER we have had at Saugahatchee!! Pool usage
is up 224%, the course is in the best shape in years, theme nights have
been well attended, Friday’s in the 19th hole and by the pool have been
packed, we brought back the Heart of Dixie Golf Tournament, and
most people say the Member Party was the best in 20 years! Thanks for
supporting your Club!
We still need your help. 10 to 20 more members would make a
tremendous difference in our finances at Saugahatchee & the services
we are able to offer. Brittany Brockman is doing an outstanding job
in membership. We are +7 year-to-date on members. WE ARE STILL
OFFERING A FREE MONTH OF DUES IF YOU REFER A NEW
MEMBER TO SAUGAHATCHEE! From now until the end of the year,
we will add to that a free month of dues for the new member as well, so
you can both benefit from it!
11:00 am - 1:30 pm
$16.95++ Adult
Half Price Ages 5-10
FREE Ages 4 and younger
Due to your support of the Club and our fiscal responsibility, we have
been able to sock away $22,350 for future capital needs of the Club in the
first 6 months of 2015. We are proud of that accomplishment and hope
to increase that amount in the future. At the midway point of 2015, we
are $42,000 ahead of budget, $56,000 ahead of last year, and anticipate
being further ahead by year-end with your continued support!
Special thanks to your current Board of Directors who have not only
been extremely supportive of our management and marketing ideas,
but actively participate in promoting the Club. It is common to see
every board member here using the Club on any given day. This speaks
highly of their commitment to Saugahatchee, and shows how serious
they take their commitment to serving you!
Book your Christmas Parties today if you haven’t already. Last
Christmas Season was our largest ever, and most groups have already
rebooked for 2015. Call Harry today if you haven’t already!
See you at the Club!

SAUGAHATCHEE COUNTRY CLUB
FROM THE GREEN COMMITTEE
Dear Members,
I would like to thank everyone that has complimented on the golf course in the last month. There is
no doubt that we set the right goals for the course to be where it is today. Goal one was to gain the
confidence of the Board in the plan that we had for the course and they came through with the much
needed extra funds to maintain the course, thank you Board! Goal two was to have the course
in near perfect condition by the beginning of July and I think we only missed that by a
few weeks, by mid-July it was outstanding. As of today the only complaints I get are
is that the rough is too hard to hit out of. End of July and August are always tough
months to control the rough and it is not the height but the thickness that makes it
so tough to hit from. My advice, play in the fairway!
Thanks again for all the positive support! Please take this support to the community and brag on our course. We need Golf Members.
Have you ever noticed the tractor that pulls around the gang reels that mow the
rough? This is old school course maintenance, the tractor itself pulls the grass
and the old reels are hard to keep sharpened and cutting evenly, plus the tractor it
hard on the grass on the side of the hills. We are looking at ways to fund purchasing at least 2 John Deere Terrain Cut Rough Mowers, go to the following link to see
mower:
https://www.deere.com/en_US/products/equipment/rough_trim_surrounds_mowers/8800_
terraincut_rough_mower/8800_terraincut_rough_mower.page.
John Deere brought Arnold one to test drive and he cut all the rough around the greens this week and
it was a dramatic difference in the uniformity of the cut. Hopefully with some savings in this fiscal year
course budget we can find a way to afford 2 of these mowers, but I am not too optimistic. To continue
moving our course to the next level we have to improve our equipment. If you would like to contribute
to this please call me. I have personally contributed to the course and I am sure there are many of you
that can do the same.
See you on the course!!

HITTING FROM THE ROUGH
When hitting out of thick rough there are a couple of tricks you can use to help
you be successful.
The first is identify which way the grass is growing. If the grass is growing
into the position of the ball then you will have a harder time getting the club
through it. If the ball is laying with the ball there is nothing to obstruct the ball
and so it should come out fast. Identifying this will help you make the correct
club selection.
The second being that the grass will try to grab the hosel of the club and close
it. A trick that works is slightly opening the club. This will help the club stay
square through impact. Also a good rule of thumb is to play the ball farther
back in your stance to ensure a steep angle of attack and less grass between
the club and ball.
Keep these in mind the next time you face a tough lie in the rough. Always
remember loft is your friend and rough never rewards the hero.
