Keep Akron Beautiful Dreamscape Makeover Dreamscape Every year for 10 years, Keep Akron Beautiful’s signature fundraiser has been the Dreamscape Makeover Raffle. Citizens all around Summit County are encouraged to purchase tickets (1 for $25 or 5 for $100) to try to win a $10,000 front or backyard makeover. We have had a variety of winners: personal homes, businesses, non-profits Over the years, Dreamscape has been a wonderful fundraiser for our Flowerscape program. Timeline of Work January/February: Prepping new media (color flyers, posters, ticket request forms, table tents, postcards) March: Ticket sales packets are distributed to all Board of Directors members and a few agency volunteers, as well as our 5 retail vendor partners. March-June: Ticket sales are happening! Board members are required to sell 15, vendor partners are selling, we mail a color postcard to those who have purchased before, ALWAYS AVAILABLE ONLINE! 1st week of June- Ticket winner is selected and the process of putting together the makeover is started! June- Our lead landscape designer meets with the homeowner and puts together the plan, the plan is then approved. July- All of the vendors come together and decide what their jobs will be for makeover week. August- The makeover takes place! Overview of our Dreamscape Makeover 2012 Keep Akron Beautiful’s 9th annual Dreamscape Makeover kicked off on June 7 with a ticket pulling ceremony. The winning raffle ticket won a professionally designed front or back yard makeover valued at $10,000. The transformation all took place during the week of August 6,2012! Flowerscapes The proceeds from the Dreamscape raffle tickets go towards funding the Flowerscape gardens that can be seen throughout the Akron area! 1,126 owners of Summit County businesses or residences entered helping to raise $23,600! It only takes one ticket to win! Ticket Pulling at Alexander Park in June! Left to Right: Capt. The Grand Prize Winner receives a professionally designed front or back yard makeover valued at$10,000! Runner-up prizes include: 4 yards of mulch or compost blown into landscaped beds by TerraScape, LTD a birdbath donated by Suncrest Gardens a basket of gardening supplies courtesy of Graf Growers. Professionally Designed Yard Makeover The 2012 lead landscape designer and project manager was Dave Thomas of R.G. Thomas Landscaping & Design Vendor Partners Dreamscape wouldn’t be possible without the help from our Vendor Partners! Meet our 2012 winner! David Canfield, a West Akron Resident bought his ticket online Before Circle K Each morning, Circle K donated bottled water, Gatorade and ice to the crews on the Dreamscape site. Nick’s Landscaping Nick’s Landscaping had the task of removing all the original shrubs, lawn and concrete patio. Tearing down the fence This fence had to go! RG Thomas was the landscaper to take it down! Advanced Arboriculture Advanced Arboriculture pruned the giant walnut tree. The branches had grown so much they were laying on the garage roof! Gates Landscaping Gates Landscaping delivered placed topsoil for all the flowerbeds. KB Compost The topsoil was donated by KB Compost Naragon Naragon installed an irrigation system to hydrate the new gardens and lawn. Tim’s Custom Electric Tim’s Custom Electric installed a flood light on the house and lighting throughout the flowerbeds. Belgard Hardscapes The pavers for the new patio were provided by Belgard Hardcapes Tucker Supply Co. Tucker Supply Co. donated polysand which was needed to install a new stone patio. RB Stout Inc. RB Stout Inc. installed the patio base and pavers. Prepping for Dog Run Dave Thomas of RG Landscape installed posts for the dog run that was soon to come! Fix up that fence! The original fencing needed a little work but nothing that RG Thomas couldn’t handle! A little help from the KAB crew Get Ready to Run! David Canfield loves his dogs, so RG Thomas Landscaping thought adding a dog run to the yard would be a great idea. Here you can see the 4 foot fence being installed. Terrascape Terrascape composted all the flowerbeds Beautiful Plants! Suncrest Gardens, Pam’s Perennials, Dayton Nurseries donated the plants for the flowerbeds! Paul’s Greenhouse Paul’s Greenhouse and the KAB crew planted all the beautiful flowers in the new beds! Flowerbeds Complete! The final touches for the flowerbed was laying the mulch, provided by KB Compost and put in by TerraScape Finishing Touches on the Dog Run! The final step for the new dog run was putting in woodchips, provided by Advanced Arboriculture. Installing the Sod RG Thomas laid down the new sod! Donzell’s, Dayton’s and Graf Growers Flowerpots, hanging baskets, and a bench were donated by Donzell’s, Dayton’s and Graf Growers Everyone’s hard work paid off! This could be your yard! Dreamscape WORKS! This fundraiser is also being done by the Keep Riverside Beautiful affiliate in Riverside, CA. It is a great way to encourage all of the landscape professionals in your area to come together and work on one main project, while helping your affiliate! These are people who want you on their side and we want on our side—we are always referring business to our Vendor Partners!
