Box 46311 Monroeville, PA 15146 VISIT CCWP.ORG From the desk of the Events Director The weather is finally getting to the point where we can frequently get out our prides and joys and show them off. We recently had a large car cruise in Irwin and the Westmoreland Mall Corvette Show . I’m certain that Gary Ed, the Firmstones and Bob Camaratta did their finest in setting up those events and everyone had a good time. As this issue of the newsletter arrives in the mail, many of us will be gearing up for a very scenic drive to St. Mary’s Ohio, for the annual Bud’s Chevrolet Corvette Show. This is the club’s first overnight trip of the season, and is during the Mother’s Day weekend. The Claycombs have been taking many club members to this event for years. I’m hoping that someone in the group is lucky enough to continue the group tradition of getting a new Corvette at Bud’s. If you are interested in attending this event, hopefully you already told Mark and LaVon, because they need to make reservations at two restaurants in the St Mary’s area. Our next event, after Bud’s, is the club’s annual Spring Corvette Show at Day Chevrolet, on May 17th. This is a big fund raiser for the club and we can use as much help as we can get, whether it is just participating in the show or helping with parking or many other little things that need to be done that make the show a success. If you are interested in helping with this event, call Joe Haver. We were invited to attend a car show/cruise at Papa Rock’s on May 24th between Noon and 4PM. This is the restaurant which hosted the club meetings prior to Dingbats. I will appreciate it if we get a descent turnout for this event, since it will show the owner of Papa Rock’s that we were grateful for his hosting our monthly meetings. The Pleasant Hill Quaker Steak and Lube will begin having weekly car cruises on Saturday May 30th. They will have a DJ and live entertainment at these events. They will also conduct 50/50 raffles where the club with the most cars wins half of the money. The annual Vettes and Jags at Linden Hall is on June 7th, and is hosted by Laurel Valley Corvette Club. Dick Klein has been working with the USX tower management for the last few years, where there is a Corvette Show at the USX tower during the middle of the week. This year's event is on Thursday June 11th. We were in error earlier, when we said it was on Tuesday. The final Corvette GT1 race will be the 24 hrs of LeMan's on June 13th and 14th. It will be aired on Speed Channel. Hopefully the boys will have another great race. The Norwin Elks Car Show is on June 20th. I’m sure this will be another well attended event. Beaver Run will be having what they are calling Car Fest, on June 23rd and 24th. There are various price levels for attendees. Pricing is determined by what events you want to participate in. They will have a show & shine, Gymkhana, and fast laps. I will have a list of the prices at the meeting, or you can go to their website for the info. Beaver Run will also have a Corvette Weekend on June 27th and 28th. At this time the event pricing hasn’t been published, but I’m very certain that it will be comparable to the Car Fest event. The annual WPCCC picnic is in Allegheny County’s South Park; on July 12th. Steel City Corvette Club is this year’s host. The event will be in the large parking lot next to the ice skating rink. Our second overnight event will be July 22nd to 26th, for the Lap of Pa. If you have not made your reservations yet, you better talk with John or Jan Hollabaugh to confirm availability of hotel rooms. Papa Rock’s Car Cruise — May 24th Papa Rock’s located in the Haymaker Village Plaza, Monroeville PA is holding their annual Cruise on May 24th from noon till 4:00 PM, with special parking for Corvettes. Tech Tip from Clem Zahrobsky C5/C6 Front end alignment The very large tires used on Corvette offer exceptional handling, and when properly aligned, deliver very competitive tire wear performance for most customers. Yet the prescribed alignment is a compromise between handling and wear. Your car’s camber setting is –0.25 degrees +/- 0.50 degrees. Making the camber more negative will improve handling at the expense of wear. We have found that when the driving habits of some customers include a large amount of driving that is not balanced with a comparable amount of cornering, inner rib wear may develop. For your driving habits, we would recommend that you have your car reset to as close to 0 degrees as possible. That should correct your inner tire wear. Official Newsletter of C.C.W.P. Page 5 2009 Cruise To Bud’s — UPDATE 12TH ANNUAL CCWP CRUISE TO BUD’S CHEVROLET Spring has sprung and some of have dusted off our special cars and started thinking about breaking out for the new driving season. Why not join us for our 12th annual road trip to Bud’s Chevrolet in St. Marys, Ohio. It’s the Club’s first overnighter of the new driving year. This year’s “Cruise-In” is Saturday, May 9th. We will leave the Pittsburgh area on Friday, May 8th and caravan over those wonderful back roads of Ohio once again, stopping in one of the state’s quaint historical towns or landmarks for lunch. Check out Bud’s website for more information at wwwbudschevy.com. Bud parked about 500 Corvettes on his lot last year. There’s lots of door prizes and always a rewarding road rally. A block of rooms have been held until April 10th at the adjacent Country Hearth Inn & Suites for $65 per night under “Buds Cruise In” or Mark Claycomb. The Inn is just off Bud’s lot, enabling us to be the first on the show grounds on Saturday morning to open the show. The Inn’s indoor pool and whirlpool offer respite during the day. Following the show, we will once again drive around Lake St. Marys after a wonderful Italian Dinner at Bella’s on the Lake. It’s all so convenient and a great way to spend the weekend. With Mother’s Day celebrating on Sunday and for those of you who need to be home with Mom’s and families, you should arrive in Pittsburgh mid-afternoon on Sunday. Join us for a fun time. We will leave the Outback Restaurant lot at 8:30 AM on Friday, May8th and meet up with a second group of Corvettes at the King’s Restaurant at the Imperial Exit of 22/30 at 9:30 AM. Be sure to e-mail ([email protected]) or call (724-861-6241) us with your intentions and cell phone numbers. See you then! These shirts are made of a high quality “Rapid Dry” cotton/poly material and come with the Club emblem embroidered on the left front and Club initials on the left sleeve. Your name can be embroidered on the right front chest. The shirts are only available in white and can be ordered using the form on the next page. Rich will also have forms at various events. Watch for new apparel at the Spring Day Show on May 17th. Corvette ZR1 Unique Characteristics As space is available, we will list some of the unique characteristics of the 2009 ZR1. The information was given to us by one of our new members, Joe Desko. Welcome to the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. This bulletin was intended to provide the Dealership Service Staff with important information needed to properly service this vehicle. ENGINE: The heart of the ZR1 is the 6.2L supercharged engine (RPO LS9) that develops 638 horsepower. The supercharger has a distinctive noise. During engine idle some slight engine noise will be observed. The noise is a combination of injector pulses, upper engine valve train noise as well as supercharger noise. The noise is slight but it will be more noticeable than on the regular Corvette. Transmission: The 6.2L engine is mated with a six-speed manual transmission (RPO MH3). Clutch: THE clutch system on the ZR1 uses a new dual disk system which is significantly different than the regular Corvette or ZO6. The regular clutch has a self adjusting feature that allows the pedal effort to be consistent through the life of the clutch. The ZR1 clutch will not self-adjust and the pedal effort will increase as the clutch wears. The pedal effort is higher on a ZR1 and will get progressively higher as the clutch wears. This is a normal condition and worn clutches should not be replaced under warranty unless a defect in workmanship or material is observed. Clutch wear is generally accepted as the owner’s/driver’s responsibility. When servicing the clutch, a special tool is required to align the two clutch plates before it is reconnected to the driveline. Failure to use the tool to align the clutches will make it difficult to install the driveline and may cause damage to the clutch and or driveline Official Newsletter of C.C.W.P.
