46 Families in their new settlement
Thanks to teamwork and support from the
community, all 46 Patilla families in the
resettlement process are now in their new
settlement, located midway between the towns
of Barrancas and Fonseca in La Guajira, Colombia.
Today, the families are sharing the same area,
where the aim is to strengthen the community
social fabric and encourage a healthy atmosphere
of co-existence with the help of psycho-social
support.
The 46 families are now
settling into their new
homes.
Priority focus on childhood
On June 2, in the presence of ICBF officials, the President of the Patilla Community Action Board and
an educational officer, the implementation of the “De Cero a Siempre” (From Zero to Forever)
strategy was initiated, a strategy focusing on early childhood and directed to trained “community
mothers”, who were received breakfast for children age from six to eleven months and from one to
four years old and eleven months old.
This programme, which is being carried out nationwide, covers the Patilla community and is aimed at
prioritizing the needs of children and to foster their appropriate development and growth.
The trained community mothers will also benefit from courses in arts and crafts, candle making and
other products.

The Roche dance group stole the show
By Jaider Carrillo
My family and I were really happy to take part in the celebrations for the inauguration of our
new town. On that day, the performance from the Roche dance group kept us entertained
along with the animation of “Chiche Badillo”. When night fell, we were thrilled by the
Vallenato performance from the singer Farid Ortiz, who inspired us until dawn.
Memorable ceremony
By Darién Duarte
On June 14, an important ceremony took place to
inaugurate the new Patilla settlement. The Governor
of La Guajira took part, the President of Cerrejón and
many famous personalities from the town. My family
was happy and proud of the event. We were presented with bicycles, which have been really useful,
and also some albums with photos to remember the
occasion. No complaints from me; I liked everything.
Good reading habits
By Rosa Isela Ramírez
On Friday, June 22, the members of the Communications
Committee carried out a reading comprehension exercise
with the magazine “Huella Social” (Leaving footprints),
which deals with community issues and the reality of many
towns. We organized a round table and each of us
presented the issue that most caught our attention; most
people talked about the environment. It was a fun exercise.
