Accomplishments and Ongoing Commitments
- Year round, the Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre tells the story of the
steamships, boatbuilding and resort era in Muskoka and houses and displays
the Society’s significant collection of artifacts and archival material.
- Our ships and the Heritage Centre attract over 60,000 visitors a year. As a
large seasonal employer and operator of an anchor tourism attraction, the
Society is a key economic partner in the Muskoka area.
- R.M.S. Segwun and Wanda III are two of the most successful nautical
restorations in North America.
- Wenonah II is the latest addition to our fleet and is the first ship constructed
in Gravenhurst since 1907.
- Since 2000, the Society has invested over $1Million in capital
improvements in the Ships.

- On-going maintenance and operation in accordance with Transport Canada
requirements
- Extensive archives including photo collection and wooden boat registry
- Significant education resource in Muskoka and beyond

- Small boat restoration projects and various repairs on the Ships and
Heritage Centre are undertaken by the Society members and volunteers at the
Heritage Boatworks.

- The Stewardship Award Program recognizes individuals and groups who
have made a special contribution to the preservation or promotion of
Muskoka’s hertiage.
- Canadian Tourism Commission - R.M.S. Segwun Millionaires Row Cruise
Selected as part of the elite "Signature Experience Collection”. This award
recognizes R.M.S. Segwun's unique and authentic tourism experience which
is of interest to travellers around the world.

- Steamship & Historical Society of America - Special Recognition Award
Awarded to the R.M.S. Segwun as North America's oldest operating
steamship in celebration of her 125th anniversary.

In 1973 the Muskoka Steamship & Historical Society was formed to facilitate the restoration of R.M.S. Segwun. Today, the society
is a not-for-profit registered charitable organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Society owns Royal Mail Ship
Segwun, Wenonah II, and Wanda III, and operates the Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre. The Society funds the operations and
educational programs through membership fees and donations, ships ticket sales, Heritage Centre admissions and venue rental,
fundraising, government grants and donations.
